I recommend Anonymizer (https://www.anonymizer.com/). It is not free, but its speed and ease of use make it worthwhile.

You could also try Metropipe (http://www.metropipe.net/). A Google search of Metropipe does turn up talk of scams, however.

Beyond that, you can setup SSH proxies manually. Get Firefox (http://getfirefox.com) and FoxyProxy (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2464/) and have at it...

All of the above suck. If you want real anonymity use TOR.
Tor: anonymity online (http://tor.eff.org/)

If you have any problem figuring out how to use it, just look at the documentation. It's as anonymous as you can get when it comes to using proxies.

Saying that something sucks without an explanation does not help a computer noob navigate proxy software. Please explain your assertion.

I agree that Tor is the best way to remain anonymous on the Net. However - it is very slow. If you're going to use it, only do so when you really need it. It is too slow for regular surfing when you are used to a high bandwidth connection. There is an extension for Firefox called Torbutton (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2275/) that allows you to switch Tor on and off with a single click.
