You certainly dont speak for everyone.
Using the rational that if you didnt do it someone else would as being legitimate justification for unnecessary stealing is just plain silly man.
This is a time for people to pull together and help each other not take advantage of each other. Peoples private homes are being attacked and looted. How is that justified in any sense? They are all victims however some choose to victimise others in the same dire straits.
And guess who pays for the insurance companies to reimburse all the business owners who lost their stock? Yup, the taxpayer.

I would definately steal food, clothing, medication, etc, from shops. No questions about it. And even though I despise guns, if I had to protect my family also, I would steal a gun or two.

But yeah, stealing TVs and such is stupid. But how do you know what you would do in that situation? I don't know how I would act.. I like to think I wouldn't stoop that low, but if I honestly thought that I needed this stuff to survive (to trade for food, shelter, whatever) then maybe I would steal that stuff too. I dunno. I honestly don't think we should be judging these people when we don't know what they're going through. We only know what we see on TV in the comfort of our nice warm living rooms.

I believe in mandatory evacuation. When a disaster like this strikes the only logical thing to do to maximise resources and minimize casualties it to have a full on military evacuation of those who dont wish to leave. Get the fucking tourists out, get the citizens out and let the only damage be to structures from the storm.
This leaves no people stranded, no looters, no riots.
Anyone who refuses to go is either dragged by their balls or left to die with no aid after the fact.
I realise that most of the people who are stranded now simply couldnt get out or were evacuated to unsafe areas. If this were done with a zero tollerance for leaving anyone behind we wouldnt have the horrible situation that is reality now.
Its costing more in monetary and human measures to try to fix shit up and finish the job after the storm passes.
Pull everyone out of harms way whether they want to go or not and keep them safe. Then concentrate efforts on rebuilding.
This chaos will create a standard protocol for future disasters that will leave little room for the shit we see happening now.
