I still don't understand why Pakistan - India, too - has nuclear weapons. One would think bringing its people out of poverty would be a bigger concern.

Not just India and Pakistan, look at all the money the US and Russia spent building tens of thousands of nukes. Not that we're a poor country, but but what could have been done with the money? No other country saw any point in building more than a couple hundred. China has 20-30 missiles capable of hitting the US, but that's every city big enough to have a football team, and that's enough to rule out a war with them. But definately a good thing for Pakistan and Isreal to have diplomatic relations. Funny thing about nukes, they make you rethink whether you really want a war, India and Pakistan had a war every 5 or 10 years for decades, but since they got the bomb, none.

Of course, if should the Musharif (sp?) government be overthrown by a Taliban stlye theocracy, I'm glad I don't live in India, Pakistan, or Isreal.
