Below is a copy of the most recent announcement we just emailed out to about 25,000 folks:

We recently celebrated our 8th year - yes, it's really been that long - CANNABIS.COM first went live in May-1997. The Marihemp Network, which CANNABIS.COM is a part of, has been in existance for around five years.

As we grow, so does our active involvement in the reform movement; many visitors expect us to do more ... and thus this year, Marihemp Network took the next step and helped sponsor Seattle Hempfest 2005, which took place this past weekend in Washington state, USA.

The official Seattle Hempfest website:

* 2005 photos, etc will be added shortly, so be sure to bookmark it and check back there occasionally.

Pictures taken for Marihemp Network - about a dozen photos:
(these were all shot at odd times of day; crowds were much bigger than shown in pics during the afternoons)

Some question whether festivals, such as the Seattle Hempfest, really help the movement - the answer is absolutely yes! They provide a way for people to network with similar-minded folks, express their viewpoints collectively as part of a larger group, and to make a statement that legalization / regulation can truly work...

Tens of thousands of people attended Hempfest 2005, with literally thousands of them indulging themselves with cannabis - and yet the crowd was generally calm, collective, and peaceful; zero arrests...

Many people against legalization of cannabis often argue that it would result in chaos, pandemonium, etc ... Seattle Hempfest 2005 is proof-positive this is just not so; zero arrests - legalization of cannabis is a viable option that can work.

Marihemp Network - CANNABIS.COM is already gearing up for next year ... and unlike this year, we will also have a booth - we hope many of you are able to attend Seattle Hempfest 2006 ... let's make it the best ever!

Now to segway into a different, and yet surprisingly related topic ...

As many people reading this announcement already know, Marc Emery was recently arrested by Canadian authorities on behalf of the U.S. authorities, namely the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), who are attempting to extradite him to the United States for selling cannabis seeds; Marc Emery is not a U.S. citizen and reportedly has not stepped foot inside the U.S. for well over a decade.

See the Cannabis Culture website for more details and updates regarding Marc Emery:

http://www.cannabisculture.com/ (http://www.cannabisculture.com/)

What's surprising is that the case against Marc Emery originated in Seattle, mere blocks from the recent Hempfest, where literally thousands of people were openly toking and enjoying themselves peacefully without disturbing others ... shows how out of touch much of the U.S. Federal law enforcement agencies are to the current reality; many of the individual agents who work for them, privately, believe cannabis should be legalized / regulated ... they know it's not if, but only a matter of time before such reforms happen; the current drug war is not sustainable.

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (L.E.A.P) is an organization aimed primarily towards people who currently are / have worked in law enforcement; L.E.A.P. is operated by Jack Cole, who retired, after 26 years of service (14 in narcotics division), from the New Jersey State
Police.

Read more about L.E.A.P. at link below:

In contrast to the U.S. Feds, the local Seattle police generally ignore cannabis use / small-time possession; jaywalking is a more serious offense than toking, and rightly so since pedestrian accidents kill numerous people every year throughout the U.S. unlike cannabis, which, on average, directly kills none!

Changing gears a bit ...

We encourage everyone, who are able, to view the new hit Showtime series WEEDS - in some instances, one can get a free trial subscription to Showtime just by asking - some of our visitors have reported getting upto three months free!

WEEDS is a great comedy that portrays cannabis in a non-traditional way set in the suburbs with seemingly ordinary characters. Read more details about the show, set, cast, etc at the link below:
