View Full Version : Was weed your 'gateway' drug?

I always considered things like alcohol, caffeine, sugar etc on one side of the spectrum, and weed, mdma, heroin, crack etc on the other side. I told myself I would never do weed. Until i did some research, and it turned out weed isnt that bad after all.
So now I've seen that I can change my mind about weed. Right now I'm telling myself I'll never do the harmful drugs like heroin, crack, and mdma, but I dont trust myself to not make that change?
This is why weed should be legal, so it would be on the first side of the spectrum and not a damn gateway drug.

If weed is considered a gateway drug, isnt being born a gateway to being a murderer?
What about tynonel? Isn't that also considered a gateway drug?

how would weed be your gate way drug... what about alcohol? marijuana is not a gateway drug. if you dont wanna do other drugs... dont.
marijuana was my gateway drug.
reason being is because it was forbidden to me. once i tried it and realized how great it was, after my insane episode with my first experience.
i'm guessing that people don't know the seriousness of other drugs. marijuana is played out to be this horrible drug due to propaganda.
you don't see commercials on cocaine and crack, etc.
it would seem to the unintelligible person that marijuana is the worst drug ever.
in theory, if someone finally built up the courage to try the drug and realized that everything was exagerrated it'd almost seem okay to try other things...more harmful things.
once your introduced to marijuana every other possibility of getting fucked up is suddenly open to you.
it's just the way the universe works.

I smoked cigarettes for many years before I smoked weed for the first time. Aside from the odd beer, or a night of drinking with profs (as is the norm in many grad schools), weed is the only "drug" I use. You've gotta be a fucking moron to use some of that other stuff.

Actually, I think it really is a gateway drug, at least for me.
Just like Ganj said, weed opened my mind up to the possibility that most drugs aren't as horrible as the government makes them out to be.
But it's not like weed has thrown me spiraling down some horrible drug voyage where I have no control. It just has opened up the gateway to a whole new world to me.

exactly! and a moron most new drug-users are. speaking for myself of course.

I did other drugs prior to my first experience with weed. I have since abandoned anything but weed but I guess I'm always looking. The reality is that not all substances are bad and with knowledge we have the power to tell the difference.

Marijuana is only a gateway drug -because- it is illegal. It is often the most accessible illegal drug, so once that bridge is crossed, doing other illegal things wouldn't be so bad.
If caffeine were illegal, it would be the gateway drug of choice.

Pills were my gateway drug. The first time I smoked pot I was actually kinda scared because of all of the government propaganda and shit about it. I thought it was going to be some sort of insane hallucinogenic trip that was going to put me on my ass for the next week, even though I started out doing drugs by snorting oxycontin. That just shows how fucked up all of this propaganda shit is.

only a few people are smart enough to realize that weed isnt bad and most other drugs are, alcohol isnt a 'gateway drug' because poeple think its harmless, and that they will never become, omg, a, a, a pothead! but when they do try weed, they think, hey wtf, i did weed, heroin and crack gotta be the same thing, its just another reason to legalize weed and get poeple to realize that DARE, the govt, NIDA, all these evil organizations LIED to them!

alcohol was my gateway drug... i was about 10-11 when i got truely drunk for the first time... it definately predisposed me to other substances, more than if i had not drank... also i tried just to sell weed for 2 years before i started to smoke... i never really wanted to smoke, just wanted the money and connections, eventually though all my friends broke me down (true peer pressure), and i smoked with them... and i haven't missed more than 8 total days (and a 4 month period where i was locked up) smoking since

Weed wasnt my gateway drug at all,i had already drank plenty of alcohol, and Caffeine before i started pot, I think alcohol is more of a gateway drug anyways, because it fucks you up alot.

When I refer to a gateway drug, i mean something you took that made you realise "hey, maybe all that really hard addictive shit might be worth trying".

any person who starts with weed...will be more likely to try other drugs , obviously since you are already around illegal drugs and everyone has that experimental stage when you are 15-24...but as soon as you try all the other drugs and shit..any true pothead will come back to weed and stay away from all that other shit cuz its obvious that mary jane is the ultimate...over everything..its natural and theres no reason it should be illegal if tobacco and alcohol are...period..its fucking retarded.

for me, tobacco was a gateway drug, because it got me wanting to smoke weed, then i tried weed and i thought it was awesome, and not like other people think its so bad, so it made me wanna try other things and find out what they are REALLY like, not how the government makes them out to be
For me gummy bears was a gateway drug cuz after trying my first gummy bear I was hooked on sugar and I wanted to try a variety of sugars to experience all of the different sugar highs.... donuts did it for me, after that i went straight back to weed cuz it doesnt hurt my feelings...

I hate to admit it, but it was for me. I smoked weed everyday for a year and then a friend of mine told me he could get opium and coke so I was intrigued and interested in trying it. Opium tasted good but didn't really get me very high... coke was really good, but this was just a weekend thing since I know myself.. I know I'd get addicted if I did too much. So since I go back to school in a week I'm celebrating. I believe marijuana can be a gateway drug.. but it's your decision. the weed didn't make you do it. if you want to try harder shit then you're responsible for dabbling and not becoming an addict.

It sure was mine. It wasn't like, "If weed is THIS cool, how cool is coke?" It was more, "I've been lied to for 15 years. What the fuck else have they been keeping from me?"

Just be careful, it's not all good times. It is with weed, but not with other shit.

i would have to say weed is a gateway drug, but like most ppl saod on here that its really all up to the person...i mean alchohol got me into weed, then i got onto tabacco(not ciggs, hate those but i like hookah tobac lol) and earlier weed got me into mushrooms, but it was my choice that i do what i do, weed didnt force me into shit i just saw SOME shit not as bad as it sounded, but i only do natural stuff (weed, alcohol, tobacco and maybe salvia, mushrooms but thats not even a yes now) i promised myself i would nvr get any deeper then thatbut anyway, u can say its a gateway drug or not, its all up to the person
