Last grow I used 2 and 4 footers. This time all cfl's. Lights right down on top of those suckers. Try to stay within an inch maybe just a little more. Plants are way more compact and internodal space is way close. Cool. Maybe my mini sog will be a success! Let's just hope I get 4 females out of 4 plants! If I do I'm gonna go buy a lottery ticket. If not 4 then it'll be a super mini sog.

I am using just 1 42watt CFL for growing 1 plant and I experienced the same thing, Very compact plant, nodes very close together, it is on its 7th node already and is only 8" tall from the soil. I started 12/12 yewsterday after 5 weeks of veg time.
I am putting in the screen (chicken wire) for the SCROG today. I was planning on switching to HPS for the flowering but I have decided to stick with the CFL just to see what the results are. I fully expect it would be better to go HPS but I just want to see this time out.

I've got 3 plants that are close to each other in height. Tallest being 4" and it has 5 nodes already and the others are 3" and have 4 nodes! 4"er is 18 days old. Others are around 15 and 16 days old. Have one that's about 14 days old that looks like it's going to be a spreader! That thing is growing looowwww to the ground! So I'm happy with the general growth for sure.
Max Blast, Is the purpose of 'scrog' grow to put the wire there to hold the plants at a certain height? Explain please and thanks for the response.

yes, and it allows you to manipulate the plant for optimum light efficancy when growing a few plants under a mild amount of light...

Kick ass grow there HTID but what are you showing me there? I assume it was a scrog grow? If so where is the wire? Where the one horizontal boards goes across?

I know what SOG means, what the heck is SCROG?

Marc,
Check out this picture of a SCROG grow. Notice that only the buds come through the screen (after training of course) this gives the buds the maximum light.

Go to Overgrow.com (and other boards) and do a search for scrog to learn more about this technique. It is used to improve/maximize the yield per square foot of growing area as well as the yield per watts/lumens of light available.
The pic at the link uses a home made screen but the easiest/best is to use "chicken wire/poultry netting" for the screen. Do some research on the boards and you will be pleasently surprised as I was.
My next grow will try the "Vertical SCROG" methodology. Harder to find info on that one but well worth the effort.
Hope this helps,
Max Blast

Try looking here,
http://users.lycaeum.org/~npkaye/multishelf.html
Read/Study the whole thing. You do not have to do it exactly like this guy did but the technique can/will greatly improve your yields when adapted to your specific situation.
HTID, are you a male or a female?
