What,s up everybody? It,s been awhile so I hope all is well. I have a question about saving electricity cost and if anybody has tried what I,m thinking of doing.
I have two 250 watt and one 400 watt hps I use for flowering, I live in connecticut and our power supplier just had a huge rate increase. When I got my last bill holly shit I thought I was going to died. I use a 1000 watt metal hilide for my vegging so I really can,t save anything there.
Anyway what I want to do is instead of running all three lights for 12 hours off one timer I want to use three timers and create a sun rising and falling effect. I would put one 250 watt on one side of the room and the other on the opposite side of the room, Then put the 400 watt on the ceiling in the center. I was thinking of running the first 250 watt for the first two hours by its self then turn on the 400 watt and run it for 8 hours with the first light over lapping for 4 hours before shuting down and having the second 250 watt kicking on with a 4 hour time lap with the 400 watt before the 400 watt shuts down and the last 250 watt remains on for the remaining two hours before going to the dark cycle.
so want do you think guys will it save me alittle cash and still give me good results?????????
Thanx, Redeyed :o :D :p

great little concept...it might work, but the 3 spikes of starting 3 lamps at different time could decrease some of your savings,...as far as the plants, I think they would just like all the lamps. I feel for you...here in the south we have been blistered...last 2 months bill doubled with the 110 degee heat index...more will come.later

The question is will your 250 Watts be enuff to provide ample light to your grow, because for four hours, that is all you will have...

Thats not a lot of light for 1/3 of your entire cycle.....

Why not, to conserve juice, do what I did...

I went through out the entire home and replaced every incandescent bulb with a little tiny CFL. I gotta huge house do I figure I replaced maybe 30 light bulbs.

Now mind you it was an expense at first, but I found these 15W = 40W deals at THD and my electric bill actually dropped during my grow.

I relamped my outdoor lights with dusk to dawn electronic eyes, I made it a point to shut down my PC's, TV's and replaced the wifes electronic vibrator with a gasoline powered one :D

I worked to offset the juice and it went quite nicely.

You would be amazed at what regular light bulbs can cost over the long run.

I dont remember how many plants you got, but 250W isnt a lot of wattage for anything more than a few square feet worth of plants.
