how many watts would it take to make a plant flower in a reasonable about of time? like a minimum amount?

A minimum ammount I would say would be about 150w for a good healthy plant, only 1 though. The plants flower accordingly to there nature.

does it matter what kind of light it is though? because for my first grow im trying to grow 8 white widow plants with roughly 1000 watts of just white light.. is that an ok idea?

just white light as in regular bulbs you put in household lamps if so you could but trust me you dont wanna shit would turn out horrible ur better off going down the street and buyin a bag

ah they aint the regular type theyre fluorescent bulbs now that i come to think of it, are fluorescent bulbs ok?

There are many different type of florescent lights bulbs and you need the correct bulb for the proper cycle of growing. Warm bulbs are (2700k) are best for general growth and flowering. Cool bulbs (6500k) are best for seedling, cloning and vegetative growth.

If they do not have those ratings then get some that do.
