I like to listen to metal when I am angry or have had a bad day at work or something. I know that is really cliche but it's true. Nothing better than Rage Against the Machine when you are dreaming of telling your boss to FUCK OFF!! man... I miss rage...

... Rage isn't metal. Please try again.

^^ oh... anyone know what happened to zack? did he ever join another band or is he doing solo shit or wha? I have heard he does underground hip hop but... dunno.

wtf... rage isn't meatal. just couse it isn't as heavey as pantera, sepultura, and what not, I would still consider it metal. Some of the new crap theve been coming out with and calling metal is way weaker than rage ever was...

I've only heard 2 strapping young lad songs, but I liked it a lot. The best metal to listen to stoned is Iron Maiden (newer stuff really), old metallica, and Dark Tranquility, one of the pioneers in the Gothenburg metal movement. oh, and In Flames.

...

Last I heard he was working with Trent Reznor(Nine Inch Nails) on an album. That was well over a year ago I heard that, so who knows now.

And yes, rage isn't metal. I love Rage, don't get me wrong, but they are far from metal.

I'm really liking Unearth now, and Throwdown. Those are some bands I've been pumping lately.

could somebody tell me what "rage" is?

... it has nothing to do with how hard it is. It's the style not the intensity or brutality. But since you brought it up, in pantera and sepultura aren't that heavy either.

I'd say pantera and sepultura are very heavy. just because they're not screaming death metal doesn't mean they're not very heavy metal.

They are kind of unique so I hate to package them with the rap-core movement, or whatever term you use for ass puppets like Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, and Linkin Park. Unfortunately they came from the same vein. You could use generic terms like rock or hard rock, but they aren't metal.

hmmm... guess I am out of my leauge then. I've heard people call bands metal like papa roach and... damn... that one band with the whiny ass lead singer that did shit with Jay-z... fuck can't remember but weak as fuck bands. And shit... sepultura is probably some of the heaviest shit I've heard. So metal or not... rage still kicks ass IMO.

Linkin park!!! that's them... man I hate them. I didn't see that before I posted.

Listen to a decapitated song. Even without the vocals just about any decapitated tracks blows pantera out of the water in the brutality department. I'm not saying they are better, just MUCH heavier. Phil had some borderline death vocals that were pretty intense for their time on some of the later albums. No doubt pantera is one of the heaviest main stream acts, but they can't touch death metal, even excluding vocals.

Was it heavy metal at the time, Pantera was one of the heaviest at the time so I consider them heavy metal. Same with early Metallica.

Pantera was and is heavy metal. I would say metallica was the same. Their latest album was nu-metal and I don't know where I would put everything after the black album through garage inc.

Was pantera the heaviest at its time...

Death put out "Scream bloody gore" in 1987, ushering the dawn of death metal. Granted death was and still is 'underground' in the mainstreams eyes, but they were out and starting a movement. Pantera's "Cowboys from Hell" came out in 1987. I think Early Death is at least comperable in "heavyness" to Pantera if not heavier. I'm sure their are other better examples, but no Pantera wasn't the heaviest thing at the time, but it was definately the heaviest that mainstream saw. IMHO.

I'll have to check out some heavier stuff of the time, I was listening to KNAC and they were playing "nice" Pantera. I picked up the cd and the good stuff was not played on the radio.

I like some metal but I remember going to a really awful bush party where there was Metallica blasting in the background. The awfulness of the music, the idiocy and drunkeness of the people and the fact that I was on shroom weed made for the worst trip ever. I felt like I was on the set of a really shitty horror movie.

check out Australian metal acts..- Devolved -(lyrics deal with evolution, science, etc, their drumming and guitar is unreal in an original way - they play exactly the same thing, lots of offtime shit these guys are ISANELY TIGHT)
and - Psycroptic - (best death metal vocals i've ever heard....AAAAMMMAZING drumming, and some of the best and most original riffing i've ever heard .and
- The Amenta - (featuring the drummer of psycroptic these guys mix brutal death with a black/atmospherical sound, remind me of - Behemoth - but better lol).....
Oh and for the person who mentioned - Decapitated - check out polish counterparts - Devilyn - and - Dies Irae -, and Canada's - Beneath the Massacre -
