Anyone heard of the new series coming out about pot?
I think it's called "Weeds" not sure though.
Maybe it's even out already. I just read an article about it in the Times magazine. But it sounds like they are going to make it comedic, but at the same time be showing how bad it is!It's about a soccer mom who starts growing weed to make extra income in the suburbs. It's suppose to show how even though the suburbs look clean, there is an underlying problem. I hope it does not come across this way on television, but that's what it sounds like they are going to do.

Well, they certainly wouldn't be able to get away with portraying it in a positive light. One of the unmentioned rules of the capitalist media is "Never seriously question longstanding policies of the government". And on the odd chance that you do see a legalization advocate on TV, there will always be some government-propaganda-spewing suit next to him. The capitalist media is all about attracting the widest possible audience to the spectacle, so they cannot make any definite statements about whether any longstanding government policy is just or not, since a large majority probably believes that it is.
Since the longstanding government policy on marijuana and the propaganda it generates to support that policy have convinced most people that it is an "evil" plant, this idea must be presented as potentially valid in the series, to maximize ratings. Sure, they will probably try to put some funny pot jokes in there to appease the potheads watching the show just because it's about weed, but fundamentally they are looking to attract John Q. Everybody, and will form the show in a way so as to not seriously question the majority opinion.

Yeah, they'll probably try to make the cast make it look like pot is really addictive and dangerous or something.
If anyone made a show that doesn't agree with parents and the government laws, it would be cancelled instantly, might not even be shown.

Wonder if maybe the makers of the show are trying to guise it as being a negative approach just to get it on the air then will just make subtle changes. That would be okay. Because at least it's out there.

Yes, it does. They want to attract the largest possible audience as well, and will not make any series that openly defies majority opinion. Sure, they have a little more liberty to express what views they want to, but they still won't make a program based on the idea that most people's view on a controversial issue is just plain wrong.
They won't paint the pot scene as it is. They won't show prohibition as the cause for all this organized crime, or show dying people denied the only medicine that works for them by the federal government. They won't argue that pot causes virtually no ill effects. Pot smokers/dealers will probably be portrayed as criminals, people who like to act stupid and whose lives are seriously complicated for having gotten into the "bad crowd".
