why do you guys hate police officers?

I noticed that a lot of people on this forum (and a lot of people NOT on this forum for that matter) hate police officers so much, that they are like fanatics.

Why is this? Because they take your weed and arrest you? They do not make the laws. It seems unfair to hate somebody for enforcing the laws that your elected officials are creating.

you may also say "i just hate crooked cops". Well what is a crooked cop? Depending on who you speak with it is either a cop who does stuff against the law, or a cop who does things for his own personal greed. If a cop pulled you over, saw you had weed, and let you go (or let you go with a warning) you could say he is a crooked cop. He was supposed to arrest you, technically.

Now granted, some times police officers can be condecending, or even rude to an extent. But they do have to put up with a lot of hate.

so my question to everybody that wants to answer it, would be what is your beef with police officers? I think we need more police officers who smoke pot. They would be more likely to let people go, and wouldn't be as likely to bust sellers and growers.

so the next time you get mad at the PO-lice, think about the fight for legalization.

Cops are cops because they choose to be cops. They know that they are hated before they sign up. The way I see it, cops are just another gang. A bunch of badasses running around with guns. Cops always seem to be right around the corner eating their dougnuts when you roll through a stop sign but when your house gets robbed, they show up 2 hours later, write some shit down, then say "We'll call you". Whenever I see a cop pulled off the side of the freeway pointing his laser gun trying to get speeders I think, "There has GOT to be a better way to spend tax dollars than that!". YES!!!! the RACE card. as a black person in america i have seen personally what power the law enforcement can do. it was with my father when i was a little girl and he did absolutely nothing wrong. he passed a police car in which the officer was dealing with someone else in front of a shopping mall. the police officer took it upon himself to approach my father after he was done with the previous case and accused him of almost not waiting for him when he was finished. it was a public street and my father had the right to pass. so THAT why i have a personal beef with law enforcement. i know that it's not right to carry a grudge, but after the things i've seen out of MY EYES....it's just not right.

I personally wouldnt hate someone just because he/she is a cop. Sure, many of them are racist, but many arent. And its easy to say cops sucks, but when you're a victim of a crime, are you just going to brush off a cop who wants to help you? My sister got into a minor traffic accident, and the cop was friendly and tried to be as unbiased as possible. I think I would be a hypocrite if I said I hate cops but would go to one if I needed to, for whatever reason. And yes, they voluntarily take up a job that involves arresting people. But come on, they're trying to make a living like anyone else. Yes, they work for the state, but we all voluntarily do things eveyday that help the state and corporation. If you go to college, you might be paying them money to do research for the military. That was a voluntary choice, no? And if you say you hate a cop because they work for the statehow far would you go with that logic? Do you hate all employees of Wal-mart, who are profiting off child labour? I taught my kids to respect police and then got burned....twice. I learned my lesson.
SO did they, I have met a few inner city cops that were ok. There are quite a few cool cops in Vancouver BC
But I have NEVER met a small town cop that was not an absolute asshole.

I have seen a cop taser a kid for not getting off his bike fast enough.
Lets see other examples...there are two asshole cops that live in small Washington town They are so bad the town wrote letters to the gov. and he came to a town meeting to talk about them. They put guns to kids heads for looking at them wrong.

They sat all night listening to private phone conversations at the phone company. I know this because my friend that works for the phone company warned me..They were listening to the teens so they knew when there was a party to bust or where the weed was.
They wrote 211 traffic tickets in one weekend in a town of less than 1000 people.
and they did it because people complained about their brutal behavior...

In a town with 12 teens 11 have been arrested for having their music too loud or, smelling like weed. ....these were good kids not troubled youth. Most the cases were thrown out of court but not without considerable cost to the parents.

It got so bad that hearing someone say "someone needs to kill those sobs" in the grocery store line became a regular occurrence.

Small town cops more often than not abuse their power.

The police are in power primarily to protect the ruling class, and are chiefly concerned with protecting their "property rights" (remember that possession is nine tenths of the law), that is, maintaining the gap between people who hardly do any productive work and wipe their asses with $500 bills and people who labor all day just to be able to eat and have a roof over their heads. That is what the ruling elite uses the police for, at least, and since they are petty thugs unquestioningly obeying the rules of their superiors, they follow suit regardless of the social consequences of their behavior. They propagate hate and violence for unjust reasons. Blaming an intangible law doesn't help anything. The current situation is clearly the fault of everybody who forces that law upon society.

I live next door to rent a cop who was on house arrest for a year for raping women at the local jail--yeah, I moved from LA to a little town in Keystoner and this happened. Here is my thought. I believe that they take their career seriously like anyone else. I personally manage a drycleaners. ( not much of a "career" but it pays MOST of the bills ) Anyway, I take my JOB seriously by enforcing the rules of my place. I HATE MY JOB, and i think that there are more cops than we are aware of that hate their jobs too. Cops are people too, BUT, There are a bunch of cops with some pretty messed up motives for doing the work they do IE; they were picked on through out highschool and now want their turn at power. MESSED UP MORALS ie; Busting sick people that use it not only for recreation but for their illnesses. another to throw in is the evidence planting that I HAVE fallen victim too, just because they " suspect you of doing something illegal " they feel the need to personally be responsible for locking you or ME up AT ALL COST. Probably the thing that i hate worst of all is profiling. I am not speaking of Racial Profiling, I am talking about the way they harass all of the young kids ( 16-20 ) and pull them over because they PROFILE or THINK all "teenagers" are up to no good. I got busted a long time ago with an Elbow and and they took my moms Mothers Day bracelet i bought her and kept it. Dirty fucker. My husband new a guy who became a cop and the guy totally changed. Whenever he put on his uniform he became an asshole.
I have always disliked cops for what they do, even before I ever smoked pot so that is not the reason.
The system just does not work. You get something stolen, and all they do is take a report, when there is domestic violence involved they do nothing to help, I know from experience as a child.
They may be just doing their job but they don't do it very well. And even when they do try to help the process is slow as hell, because they have to follow all the red tape. The law protects real criminals.
The criminals, don't have to follow the rules, the child molesters, rapists, murderers.
Then of course though if we got caught with a bit of weed, it can ruin our lives in an instant.

ok here's a story for you....first, yes there are some cops who overdo it and set a bad name for the others....they are just empowered assholes...but then there are good cops that can honestly save your life, and i'm living proof of this...i drank a lot of liquor one time, probably more than i should have knowing i was gonna drive through 2 counties that night to see my boyfriend...well, my friends at home wanted to chill with me and get fucked up and all, so we found some xanax, and some weed, and i bought a few blunts and 4 blue footballs...well we smoked 2 blunts before i left to go see my boyfriend and i took 2 xanaxes on top of all the liquor i had drank...and the xanax and alcohol are not a good combination in that large of an amount, so i blacked out before i even got out of my home county....some people from the area where i was driving recklessly called the cops, and as they finished reporting me, i wrecked and ran into a guard rail on the side of the road...finally the cops got there and arrested me for DUI and open container and all that...yeah i was hatin' on it at first, but then i realized that i had kept driving after i wrecked, and i was in no shape to keep driving...i could have killed someone or even myself...so the cops stopped me and were not assholes about it, they just did their job, took me in and did the whole procedure and all, and i was gone that night and had to pay some fuckin massive fines that i'm still suffering over...yeah that part of it is terrible, but i always think, "what if i would have kept driving that night? i was so fucked up and under the obligation to go see my boyfriend, so if i had kept driving, what would have happened to me? or what would have happened to the poor people that i probably would have crashed into?" i'm not trying to come down on the people who love to get fucked up, because i love being fucked up myself...but it's really not worth risking someone else's life or getting in the law's way...if you're only hurting yourself, then it's your fuckin business, but when it affects other people, you can only expect them to interfere...

What I see most of the time with young minors these days, is they don't even have a good reason why they hate the cops. Because they busted you, and took your stash. :rolleyes: It is theur job for one thing, and if you're dumb enough to get caught, then that is your own fault.

Me, around here, we have okay cops. I have met some, who could smell the cab of a jeep, reeking of weed, smiled to me and let me off the hook. Then there are some who are just pricks. They get drunk with power. Recently, I saw a man w/his GF on the the back of a mostorbike, who ran a red light, and wiped out hard, hitting the curb and fucking his bike up. A cop was near-by, I told him what I saw. I got no thanks, the cop didn't even look at me once, and to top it all off he let the guy go giving him no fucking ticket. The guy deserved one. He almost caused a major accident.

It is the dirty cops who I hate. I live in a city with about 75,000 people here, so there are no dirty cops really. Not like in NY or Toronto or something. They aren't bad here. They don't hassle me, I don't cause a ruckus, so I'm happy, they're happy. Most of the kids these days hate cops because their friends hate cops. Or their favorite skater hates them. I personally see the police as performing a very important job, sure you get some who abuse their positions but you get that in all walks of life. I don't think people can complain that they got busted for smoking when you are knowingly partaking in an illegal activity, whether or not you agree with the laws is neither here nor there.

I dont really have any problems with cops. I have one whos a great friend and even on the drug task force. He laughs at me and he always flashes lights at me and asks if Im high. Granted I have known him for 20 years....but I never had problems with any cops. Yeah I know there are assholes out there but isnt that true with ANY occupation. I dislike cops because as a general rule they enforce the ideals of another person. I try to live my life by the "No harm no foul" rule, which means that I live my life the way i want, do what i want, and when i want SO LONG AS I do not harm, disturb, or negatively effect anyone else. Cops are not bad people, I think of them as a necessary evil but i still dont like them. They enforce and impose an ideal way of life set by a central government, people who disagree with this please do me a favor; explain to me why it is that i (or anyone else for that matter) should be arrested for using marijuana or drugs in the privacy of my own home, I am not harming anyone and no one is endangered by my behavior. The law fights murder and hard crime - good, the law fights people driving under the influence - good, the law fights to tell us what we can put in our bodies - bad.

ASBO is the "deterrent" of today in UK, and is aimed at Youths whom have had several run in's with the Law, I.E for causing Persistent Nuisance to Residents on Housing Estates. I hate the police because two years ago I was at an anti war march in dc and They beat me and my friend. Neither of us were breaking any laws and we ha d a permit to be there. Had I been breaking the law I would be the first to addmit it because A.) I'm not ashamed of the actions I take if they are based on the beliefs I have and B.) no matter what I was doing short of harming someone else do they have the right to harm me. And I'm not talking about a few scratchs. I was hit in the head with a billy club and I blacked out. The tendons inside my ankle were ripped apart to the point where they said that there was nothing that could ever be done for them. Thankfully last year I went to a new doctor and he tried a surgery that was still pretty new and put a tendon from my foot into my ankle so that I can walk. The pain and bruising will never go away though. The city than had the balls to tell me that after they looked into it they found no misconduct on the part of the officers. I was the only person from out of all of the people they hurt that day that they insisted that I go to the ER. I was still in shock for about 5 hours after I got there. I scared the shit out of them when I told them that the only hospital I could go to was a military one. My dad was in the navy so going anywhere else causes lots of paper work and I knew my parents were already going to be angry at me and I didn't want to make it any worse. Funny thing is that 15 min. after I got there Jessica Lynch (the girl from WV who was all messed up) got there. The irony of that still amazes me. My friend who I was beaten with had the tendon behinde his knee torn. I don't remember what it's called but he couldn't walk for a long time. But yeah, thats why I hate the police and will never trust another pig for the rest of my life. I know some people go in with the best intentions about helping people and society but power corrupts. And for the few who may maintain their ideals the system destroys them because they're the only ones playing by the rules. I still go into panick attacks anytime I see a cop without expecting them to be there.

I couldn't agree more. Sorry to hear about the police brutality, but as you said, power corrupts, and not just in a very small minority of pigs like idealists would believe. You are certainly not alone in your experiences. And usually, like in your case, the pigs will get off the hook because there's nobody to punish them that they aren't close bedfellows with.

ok, I posted that before I read the whole thread. So first, as far as kids who dislike the cops for no real reason- I was 16 when this happened. I didn't even start smoking until after this. As far as being arrested or beaten and arrested, the only place I went to was the hospital. It wouldn't be any fun arresting a little blonde girl who you had already crippled. And for the equating pigs with our troops: most people in the milliary have hornor. Thats why they do something they may not agree with. I'm not saying that what they do is right or wrong, but its not for their own personal gain.
For people that rape and murder and things like that of course there needs to be something to stop them and prevent this from happening, but we need a system where you never hear "fuck its the cops" and "thank god its the cops" (I don't remember who said that either). We are the ones that need to stop givng power to those in control right now. We are the ones that are allowing this to continue by saying thats how it works, or he must have desirved it. I'm not talking about cops taking your weed or busting you for drinking underage. That sucks, but you can't blame them for that (obviously this is excluding them demanding or accepting sexual favors or other things of that nature to get off a charge). I don't blame some people for respecting cops. It all depends on what you;ve see for yourself, but it is very important to know that no mater what you think, we havn't seen it all, nor can we even try to guess at what else is going on behind the image of a protector. My problem is not with one or two people. One or two people could have been fired. It takes a city and a society to create and tolerate the double standard that exists today. How do we protect ourselves when the evil is in our protectors? When I say evil I'm not referring to the people themselves. But when you pick up a gun you have power over every unarmed man, woman, and child who make up the majority of our neighborhoods. When the evil is the same on both sides of the law you have to wonder where the rest of us fall into place.
And its not even in the US. Now shoot first ask questions later is the accepted policy. I don't really know how I can put into words just how horrible and outrageous this is. To do away with police entirety in one bold step would be a rash and foolish decision to make. But as we are giving away more and more of our freedoms for the sake of being free how can we even claim to have the same fundamental values that America was founded on? We train new cops that there is one good and one evil. Everything is black or white. And in their minds they take this to heart in justifying their actions. As long as you can rationalize what your doing we can do anything guilt free. You/we need to have faith in other people. If it came down to it, most people would not go on a violent killing spree the second an authority figure is removed and there are no legal consequences for our actions. Look at what happened in New York after 9/11. There were no enforceable laws to go by that day. People not only continued to live there lives in a civil manor, they went out of their way to help others. We do live in a world where its every man for himself. It's financial gain over the worker who lost his job because its cheaper to have over seas labor do it for pennies. puppet regime? never! that being said, I was 16 when it happned and my dad wouldnt let me and there was nothing I could do about it. I know that seems kind of unbelievable, but its the truth. As far as the video footage goes, the only copy I know of was on my ex boyfriends computer, along with all the pictures of my injuries, He later reformated his hard drive without saving a copy of either. I know this is my fault for not being more carefull and having hard copies of them but hey, I was 16. There are copies of the medical report filed the day it happened, severl later visits to try and guess the extent of the damage to my ankle, and the report on what ever they found when I had it reconstructed. Now that I'm 18 I dont know if I can take any legal action on it now. My friends case hasnt even gone to court yet (we went to lawyers willing to take the case for free so the delay is somewhat understandable). I'm going to try and contact them again and see if there is anything I can do at this point. And FunkyMonkey, I need sleep before I respond to you. I've gotten 4 hours of sleep in the past 48 so thinking is getting a bit hard.

I don't hate all feds, i've been let off a few times for a 20 sac here, a half quat there, and those cops were cool, were easy to talk to, even admitted to burnin herb back in the day. But most are assholes. I got beat with a nightstick for no fuckin reason. He said I smelled like herb, so he hit me in the back, kicked me twice, and cuffed me. When I fell I got a black eye. He let me go with a fuckin grin on his face, I looked at his badge as I left, and when I turned the corner I wrote it down. ive unfortunately been dealing with cops since i was probably 15 or so. Some are good..some can be dicks. Pretty much mimics society. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand that they have a job to do. However I think that the problem is their ego or inflated-self that is the issue. It's the "holy'r than thou" attidute that alot of them carry. Im not advicating a world without rules or people to enforce them, but it seems like cops just enjoy fucking with the Average Joe and making their lives worse when it's not necessary.

One thing I think about often is the sting operation, being the buyer or the seller, trying to arrest people. If cops really felt strongly about representing the side of good, and wanted to see the good that lies in society, that would mean during a sting operation that they should hope nobody breaks the law that night so that it shows their town is safe. Is that what they hope? Absolutely not. They want you to break the law so that they can arrest you and take you to jail and take your freedom away, IT IS WHAT THEY DO. As for the type of people who become cops, lets just look at the list, which i have come up with and I think all fall into some category:
1. Those who were bullied and picked on become cops so that they can now do the bullying - I don't know about you, but I don't want someone like that being on the other side of the law who is only doing their job to dish out the shit that they had to put up with
2. Failures - During college, plenty of people that I knew found the curriculum to be hard and their chosen career to be more than they could handle. You know what I heard every one of them say they were gonna do instead? Become a cop. I don't want people on that side of the law to be there because they failed at their original chosen profession
3. Tradition - These are the only real cops who I can find no reason to hate. They have a family history of law enforecement and are basically born into it. These type of people generally want to help people and do their job because they do care about the side of good.

In any case, they are all sociopaths in the same sense as a serial killer. The analogy is not about killing, it's about indifference - the absence of feeling. They don't give a fuck if you get a night in jail or ten years for some plants, as far as they are concerned, you deserve it. You think a nonviolent offender deserves to be around rapists and murderers, deserves to be raped and if he doesn't allow himself to be raped, deserves to be killed? That's the truth anyone who goes to prison faces and people who don't harm people or even themselves, have to place in prison but as far as the law is concerned, they do. I don't know about the rest of you, but that is 100% absolutely fucking FUCKED UP to do to a nonviolent person. And we smokers stand the chance of having to face that if we get busted. That is fucking bullshit plain and simple. The cops know what can happen to you and they know all you did was have some weed on you and they are going to put you in that position? Fucking sociopaths, plain and simple

Cops are doing their jobs just like anyone else. It's not their fault that the government says that they need to arrest people for smoking weed. A lot of them feel the same way we do about that particular law. And I personally have had cops look the other way on it.

So no, I do not hate cops. Sure, some are corrupt, but most of them are out there keeping your ass from getting shot or robbed everytime you walk down the street.

Yes, marijuana laws suck, and need to be changed. But it's not the police who have the power to do that. They just want to get paid and go home to their families like the rest of us.

What I hate is this "oh they're just doing their job" crap. Thats irrelevant because nobody made these people become cops. They don't HAVE to do shit. If I get pulled over and a cop smells weed and searches and finds something, he would take me to jail. Because he is doing his job? Who the hell is going to know that he found weed and didn't arrest the guy? Nobody. He doesn't HAVE to do anything. Nazis were just doing their job weren't they? I understand that arresting someone for weed and genocide are two different ballparks but fact of the matter is, just because you are a paid police officer doesn't mean you have to arrest someone every time you find weed. That means they do the shit because they want to, or they think it's actually dangerous, which it isn't. Any cop knows, probably first-hand, what alcohol does because I'm sure they've dealt with pleny of dui crashes. But how many of those involve someone who was too high to drive and got into a crash? Probably zero and I can tell you from plenty of driving experience that no matter how fucking high I am I can still drive my car and never come close to an accident. Get me drunk and I won't even fucking try it. How come someone who isn't driving or operating machinery can get arrested for having weed but the same guy standing next to me could be drunk and way more intoxicated, but because alcohol is legal, he'd never be bothered? These guys are smart enough to know what is more dangerous but do they ever even try to reason with anybody about trying to change the pot laws or penalties based on their statistics and experience from a non-user point-of-view? Any responsible or intelligent person would. Do they? No - they are just doing their job - what a fucking bullshit reason for something

In my part of kansas city you cannot depend on cops for anything except traffic tickets.
examples:
--One time i was at my friends house and his neighbor's burgurlar alarm went off so we called 911 while his dad ran over there with a loaded pistol. We told them the alarm went off and we thought somebody broke into his house. It took the cops 2.5 hours to get to the house and they do not live in far away a rural area. Somebody could have easily been shot and killed within 30 minutes. Thank God there was nobody who broke in though.

--Another time this kid was having a party and a partygoer drank to much and got alchohol poisoning. He passed out and nobody could wake him up. We called 911. and even told them to send an ambulance cause he wouldn't wake up. It took the cops a half hour to get to the house which is less than 5 miles from the police station. The kids parents were able to get home and take him up to the hospital before the cops arrived.

We all have to do sum shit job, and you just pray you get sorted with one that is at least bareable, and gives you enuff money to enjoy the finer things in life, but police, even if you did start the job to make for a better tomorrow, today! do you realise the shit ure gonna have to put up with? I was caught 10 years ago smoking inside a car with a friend outside of a movie theater waiting to go see the movie.

The female policewoman knocked on the window and told me to open the door, as I did a cloud of smoke billowed out.

She said "give me the weed". And I did. She gave me a speech and said,

cops arent all bad, id like to be a cop just so that i could make a difference and help some people. but alot of big city police are corrupt and use their power to control people and benefit themselves.

i have had very good friends who were law enforcement officers, and ive also wanted to beat the cranium of a few pigs until their brains ooze out their ears.
