Places to purchase low watt HPS.

I was just wondering where one would go about buying a low watt (150 - 200 watt) HPS light. Mail order is not an option. Also, my grow room is about 3 x 2.5 x 9 ft. Would a lower watt HPS create to much heat? I have no way of venting excess heat. I plan to grow only 2 - 4 Northern Lights with these and I'll be using a few fluros with the HPS, if I can get it.

you can go to your local electrical supply store and buy a security light...just like a street lamp 150w hps for around 80-150 bucks...you just have to take it out of the little hood it comes in...

I saw some 70 watt hps's at Home Depot. But they need a mogul base. They have some 35 watters that put out 2250 lumens. For 4 of them you'd have $64 in them but they'll work in a regular base (not mogul). That way you'd have 140 watts of hps at 10,000 lumens. Not perfect but way better than all flourescents and the correct spectrum.

If i was u ( not having any way of venting air out) i`d forget HPS or metal halide altogether!! WAYYYYYYYY too much heat for them if u can`t vent that heat out!! - i`d get a few of those ` Envirolites` they do 125 watt blue spectrums for growth and i think it`s a 200 or a 250watt red spectrum they do for flowering. They give off almost no heat and wattage/lumens/cost of electric etc etc all put into the equation all makes sense to me. I`m currently growing under envirolites and find them the best alternative to hps or mh !
OK i admitt they don`t give the same ooooooomph!!!! as MH or hps but if ur grow space and venting is very limited then that`s what i`d go for.
Seen a website somewhere where u can get envirolight 125 watt for less than 20 quid too !! very cheap!!! ( dunno what that is in Dollars for all u lot across the pond)
Sorry seen u can`t order anythin online!! must be places other than internet u can buy envirolights!!!

Then the 140 watts of hps (from Home Depot or where ever) and the 160 watts of fluorescents sounds like the answer.

I went on to the Envirolite web site and checked those out. Interesting but at the end they say that the same amount of watts, say 1000 in Envirolites, generate almost the same heat as a 1000 watt hps. So the only reason they're less heat is because you're talking one 120 watt bulb as compared to a 1000 watt bulb or 600 or 400 or whatever. Seems like you could possibly get a 120 watt mh/hps and have the same amount of light and heat as a 120 Envirolite?

Please enlighten.

mmmmmmmm!! interesting reply!! But i`m sure the envirolights are cooler than any hps or mh from what i`ve read. it`s dificult sometimes because you can constantly get conflicting reports but i have a 400 watt HPS light and a 125 watt envirolight and i`m convinced that i could probably have easily 4 or 5 envirolights b4 the heat got anywhere near as much as my hps. Would be interesting to hear what others think on this. The electric consumption is also an issue for me as with anyone and i`ve always been told that u`ll get more lumens for ur money in running cost than with hps.

Just as a footnote -- i can put my 125 watt envirolight half an inch from the tip of my plants and tend to keep it that way - could u do this with any hps or MH ???? i don`t think u could!! and as u know the further you move ur light from ur plant the more lumens u lose. just another factor in an already puzzling equation i guess!!

I think the reason Envirolites may be cooler is just because of the watts per bulb. If you made a 400, 500, 1000 watt Envirolite, one bulb, not say 9 to add up to close to 1000, it may be just as hot. So the reason 9 Envirolites may be cooler is because of the expanded area involved. 9 lights spread over an area not just one spot of light/heat.

As for having the 125 watt Envirolite 1/2 inch from your plants? Maybe you can do that same thing with a 125 watt mh/hps. I don't know. Is 125 watts 125 watts and the heat is the same no matter it being a cfl, mh, hps? Or does the mh/hps inherently produce more heat than a cfl?
