Although people dont think it cos im a stoner, i am mad about sports (especially Football or soccer as its sometimes called) i can watch anything cricket, golf, boxing, athletics etc anyways i was just remembering one of the most incredible nights of sporting history, when Liverpool won the European Cup(champions league) on penalties against AC Milan after coming back from 3-0 down, now i dont support Liverpool ( i support QPR so i dont get much to celebrate concerning them except promotion 2 years ago which is about as good as it gets) but as a mutual this game was the greatest sporting spectacle i have ever seen it had pure emotion, passion, skill, goals everything you could want in a match, at half time they were 3-0 down only to pull it back to 3-3 and then win on penalties and let me tell you i went through every emotion going i thought they had lost so didnt want to watch and was miserable as fuck, then was shouting and jumping about like a lunitic and thewn at penalties i was behind the sofa barely able to watch and by the final whistle i had tears in my eyes then as Steven Gerrard lifted the cup i was cheering again and hearing their fans was amazing. Even now when i watch highlights of the game the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!!
Anyone else think that game was the greatest? or what about any other brilliant sporting moments!!!

My Favorite Sports Moment Was When I Was At The CapitalOne Bowl In Orlando Florida Last Year(American College Football). Anyway my Team the University Of Iowa Hawkeyes Were Down By 1 Point 25-24 To Louisiana State Univeristy, with 8 seconds on the clock and ticking away Iowa QB Drew Tate made a Miraculous 56-yard td pass to receiver warren holloway for the last second victory. There Was No Time On The Clock When He Made the Pass. it was an amazing finish.

heres a sound clip of the radio announcers from the game

a couple years ago...
i was at game 7 of the western confrence finals between LA Lakers and The portland Blazers. This was the first year that the LA LAkers had any sucess for a long time. Ok, well the lakers were down by 19 at the beggining of the 3rd quarter. They started doing a bit better ( not really ) , by the time the 4th quarter had started... they were down by 16 . Well ... suddenly the lakers start scoring like crazy. In 3 minutes, they were down by 8... in 2 more they were down by 3. Eventually the lakers tied it up, and WON!

that is supposedly one of the greatest laker games ever, and i was there to see it live!

wow it was awesome. That's when shaq and kobe knew eachother haha ;-)

Yeah it was a good one but not as good as the Liverpool one, when Stevie G was trying to pump the crowd up after he scored was amazing and then to see him lift the Cup was the best! (what makes it extra special is that he is born and bred in Liverpool and has supported them all his life and then there he was lifting the biggest club trophy in the world for his boyhood club, hes even said he used to pretend he was doing when playing in the park as a kid! (i know i did!!)

not to mention how many of our u20's play for premire teams in Europe...and to go a little futher the u20's beat powerhouses Argentinia(3 time defending world cup champs in the u20 class) and Germany in this past youth world cup losing to Italy in a very close game that was scorless for 80 minutes.......we've got the most valuable up and coming player in the world in Freddy Adu. and just won the CONCA CAF CUP beating Mexico, Brazil, and Panama
on another note... my former club team in NH has won many tourneys in Europe including the Portsmouth Cup, Stohlkhom and won 8 friendly's against Dutch and German youth premire organizations

But its better that we are under rated because we'll love to see those smirks wiped off all your faces.... :)

i know ill be in Germany next summer

mine would be in the 2004 european championships, when england were against portugal. somehow england managed to take it into extra time even though we were playing shit and at the start of the second half of extra time, i think it was the portuguese player rui costa scored a belter of a goal. it looked like we were going out, esspecially as we were playing shit, and out of no where frank lampard scored for england, ive never gone so mad! then a minuet later england scored again, but the referee didnt agknowlage it, and we ended up losing in a penalty shootout. at least those cocky portuguese lost to grecce in the final though

Forget youth cups mate they mean nothing. Freddy Adu is over rated there was just a lot of hype over him after that Chelsea tour of the US they had reports on a couple of footie shows that said he is too one footed and he wouldnt handle it in the premiership for a good few years yet he dont even stand out in the MLS, he couldnt handle it with the big boys!!! Unlike my man Wayne Rooney who played in the premier league at 16 and is the best player in the world!!

I hate you. AC Milan is my team, and for 6 minute breakdown, they get 3 goals scored on them and then lose. I HATE LIVERPOOL! This year's gonna be good... AC has awesome attack, with Shevchenko, Vieri, Gilardino, and Inzaghi... I smell loads of goals coming up this year!

i said he is the most valuable soon to be player.. hes a 16 year old in a completely different world.. the media here puts alot of pressure and spotlight.. not to mention Chelsea was the first team to talk to him about signing when he was like 13 or 14 and still say they want him on their squad, as freddy does..once his contract up with DC he'll be in the premireship.. and youth squads mean alot when their our future players..

America dominates every other sport. once America completly embraces soccer will dominate in that too, where too damn big of a country not too...

and like i said we'll love to see those smirks whiped off!

Actually Inter Milan were the first team to approach him. I saw him say how Chelsea are his favourite team though i doubt they were before Roman Abramovich took over!!
I admit the U.S are getting better but youve got about 100 years of catching up to do till you get to our level let alone the level of the best(which are Brazil) Also America are good at athletics and sports they have made up but when it comes to real international sports youre still some way behind eg. Rugby Union, Rugby League,Cricket etc

Whoever said cricket was boring.

I'm pretty suprised it hasn't taken off in America actually, its pretty similar to baseball really and its a very statisics dominated sport something which tends to be popular in American sports.

100 years.. ha!...i mean why is brazil so good? because its a huge country, has alot of talent to pick from.. england's like a 4th the size California alone is....dont get me wrong i love english futbol, i loved living in Brussels and eating/sleeping the game.. but i got to have pride for my team, Cuz its not IF its WHEN and when is soon, believe me... right now we already have more soccer players on every level of play then england.. now it might take a 100 years to beat all the best players of Europe, seeing as Europes about the same size...We made a scratch in the last world cup, next one we'll make a dent! and im gunna look you up and laugh in your face, All in good sportsminship tho :)

now i've seen both sides of this argument in person and i know your laughing as you read it...

Its got nothing to do with the size of the country, look at Austrailia their population is even less than ours and yet they've kicked arse in several sports for many years now.

Its to do with the infrostructure and the attitude towards the sport. I'm sure the U.S will do well in time as you tend to be a very competitive people (sterotyping i know but it tends to be true) but I can't see it happening anytime soon.

nomadherbman
08-08-2005, 01:23 AM
I disagree....size of country has alot to do with it...not all to do with it...alot is also like you said the attitude towards it...but as i said before soccer is really begginning to take flight here...and its happening right now..we've got great players that are still young bucks.. playing for Europes more prominant teams..im not trying to say were gunna take complete control and be the best... but were gunna be competers and demand respect... there isnt much that seperates our teams, we give every team on this world tough matches and close games...i cant remeber the last time we were blown out except for maybe the lost to Germany in the france world cup..

and im sure that we've gained much respect by the players rather than their fans...

Don't get me wrong i do respect the U.S in football(id rather see you win than Germany) but you gotta remember that football is our national sport its ingrainded in our culture whereas the U.S has at least 3 sports that are more popular. If you look at the last friendly we played youll see we beat you with perhaps our 3rd choice team! The size of the country dosn't matter its about the quality of the leagues and the players Russia has a huge population but aint so good, If America had to play the quality of the teams we do in Europe or the teams in South America they probably wouldnt even quilify for world cups in the first place. Brazil are the best not because of the size of the country but because all the poor kids have nothing except football and again it is rooted deep in their culture
P.s ill think youll have to visit my grave stone to laugh in my face if you win the World Cup cos ill be long gone mate!!

pps this is why football is so great cos it stirs such opinion and emotion and lets face it in a one off match anyone has a chance of winning and losing therefore people like me do have to eat their words!!! also its great to see an American who loves Footie and i do hope it becomes even more popular over there because Football is truely an International sport that breaks down barriers between countries!!!

Fifa rankings are bollox its cos of the poor quality of opponent and and meaningless friendlies that give such high points c mon do you really think your better than Germany who have won the World Cup 3 times and Italy( who are 14th ONE place in front of IRAN!!!!) who have won it 3 times, FIFA are just a bunch of muppets, like i said just look at the friendly we played in the summer with our reserve team!!
