I bent this down using some airline, one of those water backup filters that come with the airpump, and 2 big nuts...makes a quick and easy way to weight down the plants...

Jesus...what a mess :)

How long does it take you to get in there and sort out the tie down spots?

Man i bet that room just reeks of herb :)

Very nice indeed.

Still wanna know why the reflector...if thats what it is....

Great jungle grow man....like out in the wild....

:D The reflector is just what it came in...I have been thinking of modifying it...any suggestions...I was thinking of building or buying a cool tube and just hang it no reflector...what do you, think

HARDDON

I am no fan of reflectors, but not of kool tubes or heat glass either.

I would take it out of there and spread the MH light around so it overlaps in spectrum more than it is.

If heat is an issue, then yea, kool tubes are the way to go then.

I believe that UV rays increase potency of the THC present. GLass will block the UV-B rays that affect that.

The glass will allow the UV-A rays to penetrate but it is the UV-B rays you want.

But still I would broadcast the light over a wider area.

But I think you have done nicely without my advice... :)

Well, I appreciate the compliment, but I learnsomething here everyday from somebody and if you ever see something in my schtuff that you believe I could do better by all means Mouth off ;) this goes for any of you folks out there that are trying to learn to be better growers... but I will take it out tomorrow, you think I shoud take out the hps also?

I cant see your grow room to well.

If it properly designed for reflection, then by all means, I would take the reflectors off and hang them above the plants.

I bought this huge assed light setup and to this day the new housing, with glass cover, venting cooling tubes all sits in the box.

I just grabbed the lights and ballast and let them hang.

I guess it all depends on you reflectivity....

christ you got so much going on in there it is tuff to see much at all .....lol....

i know the feeling :)

Wow wot an amazing jungle u have there :D How do u get in there? I guess u never move them cos they're so huge & bushy. When do u expect to be cutting em down? Seems like u're gonna have loadsa bud. Wot strain is it? Keep up that amazing grow :D

Its your call.

You said you were 6 weeks into grow...

I assume flower.

It looks like all sativa so you can squeeze a few more weeks outta her anyhow so if I were you, I would indeed drop the lights out of those spot light creators you have them in.

If you can squeeze another 3 or 4 weeks outta them, your buds will fatten up quite nicely.

Dont get me wrong...I think you have a great grow there and its obvious you know what you are doing....

I just think less spotlights on the ladies will benefit the plant as a whole....in fact I know it will.

Let the light spread out more on them and in 2 or 3 weeks you buds will swell and fatten a lot more.

On your pic in post 15, i see the white stops going up the walls and then it turns to the wood panel?

You will need to address this.

Every single thing in the grow room should reflect light.

ANyhow, thanks for asking for my input....as I said, you are doing fine on your own.

message is too short!
Do you think i can turn off a light and work on it during cycle or should I wait until tonight, lights out and pull them apart then
1. clones for s-b-s...
2.-5. shots around lights, so you can see setup

HARDDON

Definately take those bulbs out of the housing and get them side by side in the middle of the plants about 10" from the top.

Rotate the plants everyday 180 degrees, more often the better.

Normally I like to hang the bulbs horizontally, but you would lose way too much light with the setup as it stands....so drop them vertically...

In my opinion, you will broadcast light over a more broad area and you will also give your plants the benefit of spectrum overlapping :)

As far as when to do it, when the flowers go to sleep, they need to go to sleep and stay asleep.

I would do this work during the first part of the their morning cycle, starting a half hour earlier than normal, or I would extend the evening cycle a bit and work on them then.

Please post a pic identical to post 19, pic #3 when complete....I would like to see it.

Thanks

I thought that there was a difference between vertical and horizontal bulbs/lamps
I thought you had to hang a horizontal bulb horizontally and a vertical bulb vertically

HARDDON
08-03-2005, 09:55 PM
Some bulbs are UNIVERSAL other are not.

Do yours specifically state horizontal only?

My bulbs came HORIZONTAL ONLY, so I went to The Home Depot and jsut swapped out the HPS and MH and used the universal ones I got there....the ones that came with my unit are put away somewhere for a rainy day I guess.

Either way, take a horizontal ONLY bulb and use twisty tie to keep it as such. A thin strip of water heater blanket between the bulb and the twisty tie plastic keeps it from melting on the bulb.

Or, wrap a few layers of the aluminum vent tape to prevent bulb melting the plastic.

I have done both.

got a couple pix of opened area and tubs
1. pots/tubs
2.backed up a couple of steps.
As far as the lights,
I am going to open them up later on tonight, usually lights out at 2330
thanks, I really thought I needed to do something to fatten the buds...

HARDDON

If you wanna get serious about getting thicker buds....you need to get serious about your reflectivity.

Now that I see more of your space, I would estimate you are running less than 60% reflection.

Prolly too late to really change this grow and the results by doing anything else other than getting the light OUT and about...

But before your next grow, lets get serious about light reflection.....

That will fatten the buds up the way you want :)

Right now you just have too many light leakage issues to deal with in the middle of flower...but I know this space can be turned into a white diamond type of place.

I think other than that you got it all down.

People just underestimate what reflection does to the flowers later on.

I still have some panda left, and that shit is so easy to hang...not giving up yet!...wait and see what I've come up with since i am going to strip my lights...gonna tighten up the space a little and spread the plants a little to allow better light penetration; once I get lights modified, thanks... will post once I'm done...gotta go mow the grass!!!later

I spent the last 2 hours workin on clones, plastic modification, reflector removal...took some pics as per Harddon's request so here we go->->->->->
->1.here is the shot from preivous #19..pic3,
->->2.same side as before, plastic opened slightly,
->->->3.Fanhole. best I could do on short notice.
->->->->4.Inside on the other end looking back...hps now has no reflector!
Now we will see what happens...It looks good, but really hard to tell difference except I loosened up the foliage and widened the canopy, the whole canopy is Buds and they don't suck! I'm guessing I still have another month to finish. I know what I did that cost me shorter bushier plants, I also vegged these plants about 2 months. they were tall. but, I'm hoping this helps to finish them a little better...Thanks for the nudge. Harddon, that is all I needed to get off my ASS...I am going to do MH after lights out tonight!
.................peace.later :)

HARDDON
08-04-2005, 02:04 AM
You will see a load of difference once the MH is set free also :)

Nice to see you get off your lazy ass :D

Your ass will thank you as will your plants :)

HARDDON

Next, you need to work on reflecting the ceiling.

The horizontal position is doing a great job of lighting your ceiling.

Also, you have your plants on top off some rectangular tub lids....how is the light supposed to bounce back up to the underside of the buds if its trapped by plastic tub lids?

Also, you have a nice white tile floor...but it appears to have blue diamonds or something. Each cold spot like that sucks the light in and never lets it out.

Now I dont want you to think I am being picky....again....you have a great grow. By the same token, if you want fatter buds, you need to make this as perfect as you can... I suggest perhaps some wal mart white poster card paper stapled to the ceiling to help there, and, cover the blue diamonds with it as well.

Loose the tupperware lids so the light doesnt get trapped by those and make sure the 2 x 4 light eating wood is taken out of there as well.

Remember...without that reflector....you wont have as much radiant heat, so feel free to play with the height of the bulbs.

Please post some pics of the canopy once the MH is on them. I think you'll see a difference now in light and bud in a couple of weeks :)

Nice chatting with you :)

latewood
08-04-2005, 03:52 AM
Yeah, I know that the bottom is still open...the lids or tupperware stuff is catching excess water... not there for reflection... you see I have plants that I topped and plants that I didn't(MONGO) and hydro plants that are taller for 2 reasons taller tubs and well, hydro...that is why I started bending...I couldn't afford to do everything properly, but I've made it this far, thanks to some new friends here and OG, and an ASS of WORK!!! now this new grow..I'm going to recirculate...bought me a 600 gph pump and I'magonna havasomfun...no more backbreakin' water totin' crap...I'm gonna RO right to a T w/double valves/one for drinking-one to the main res-pump to recirc dwc and spray sprinklers system...I'm gonna call it "Mongo's Turbo Hydro Garden"
Well I got the MH down. It's lights out and I am letting it cool.later :) :p

It looks like it does from the pics....

GREAT JOB LAZY ASS.

OH yeeeaaahhh! I think it's gonna work...hey, sent you a message athush...need to check'em...don't want to burn them up...One thing I noticed after I got the mh up and running again is that the heat from the bulb projects to the side rather than down at the plants...so this is great as far as temps go, they appear to be lower overall...I am going to place a thermometer in the canopy...be right back...

latewood
08-04-2005, 07:10 PM
OK, no burning...I think I got a good pic of buds this time... :)
kinda dark, the picture just doesn't do justice to the girls :)

HARDDON
08-04-2005, 07:36 PM
Oh yea dude...now you got a good full spectrum going in there...frickin awesum,,,,,you will now grow fatter buds indeed!

Your plants thank you and I do to so now I dont have to lose sleep over your plants any more :D

The heat you will find will also befar more managable if you have a top air exhaust system like a vortex.

I have a 6" vortex with the suction hose about 4" from the MH and HPS and a fan blowing right below them that bounces the air right into the suction vent.

I also have ZERO raidant heat.

Now if I could just get the damn sun under control and lower the outside temps about 20F all in the world will be good.

I'll check my hmail.

thanks

latewood

I have never had a heat problem...I was just stating that it is even cooler...right down below position 19#3 is an a/c register

"You in the jungle baby...and you gonna dieeeeeeeee...welcome to the jungle....."

Ha ha! Had to say it ;)

Your plants look great latewood. Using reflective material makes a HUGE difference. Hard-on convinced me to get off lazt ass and do same thing :p. I noticed a huge diff. in brightness in the room immediatly after doing so. Within a few days I noticed how much faster my plants were growing too. It truly is a jungle in there. Anyways, keep up the good work!
