View Full Version : Are drugs helping us to see the light?

This may sound corny but bear with me...

lots of people do drugs to get a rush and get fucked up for various reasons, such as feeling good (which sometime is deff OK :)) but it also seems that drugs (especially more natural ones opposed to man made shit) is maybe helping us see the "light" and the truth to life, if there even is one. The thing is, we can never know if the insights we are getting while on drugs are helping us see the light or creating a false world that is blocking the light. It is impossible to really know. so i'm just wondering whatchya all think!

hopes this makes sense when i look at it tomorrow morn

phsycodelic drugs arnt meant for recreational uses. with most phsycodelic drugs, its meant to allow you to think on a diff. level, so you look at things differently. better or worse level of thinking is up to the user

Ya, some drugs seem to let us "See the light". Others (like coke >_<) are for fun!

In my teenage years up until that date of december 25 1999 christmas i was always depresed and sucidial but that day i ate sum of the best mushrooms in my life and recorded myself talking just about life i listened to it sober and its like i woke up and ever since then my life has been excelent of course it still sucks but i learned life is the bad mixed with the good not just the good and if mushrooms can make me accept that fact then i believe that in moderation they may be the lock to happiness you just need to find the key if that makes any sense

Personally, I think using drugs has made me a better person. I've been researching psychoactives for the past few years now and have done a good variety of them for a 'kid' my age. Sure I have been called a 'druggie' but that is a loose term. Despite my more than occassional drug use I have been able to smoke pot, crack, do heroin (FREE FROM THE ROADSIDE), ecstasy and other drugs. I try to incorporate drug use and negative impacts of prohibition in many of the papers I write for school, it is like my inspiration.
I feel drug use has allowed me to view the world from multiple perspectives and improve my thoughts about life. I have not the slightest idea what I would be doing right now had I never smoked that joint three years ago, or even popped that pink Yin Yang just a couple years back. I have cautiously been able to keep my entire life style unexposed to my parents, though im sure my family doesn't doubt I am on something. :)

I agree with Nullific except I'm too retarded to write good papers on the subject. I'd try to write it while on DXM or something....

Weed and psycedelics (mostly acid) have changed my life so much. I have such a different outlook on life since I started smoking and even more so since I started doing acid. I am convinced that the world would be such a better place if everyone smoked weed, if only one time. I used to have an extremely short temper. Because of erb, I now feel that getting angry is useless and petty, as it won't change anything. I still get angry sometimes but I try to solve problems using words instead of violence. That sentiment is even more so now because of a wonderful substance called acid.

If you don't think that drugs help people "see the light," just read The Archaic Revival by Terence McKenna, or any of his other books, or anything by Timothy Leary or Aldous Huxley. They changed my life.

ya before i started doing drugs i was kinda uptight and very scientific minded. Now i am alot looser, and even though i still like science i think of it in a more philisophical and open minded way. So to me i do feel as though drugs (some) are helping me see the light, but like my original post said, how am i to know if this is not all a false reality covering the truth. I guess since we cannot know for sure we have to accept what we are feeling as being good.

A daydream is a meal at which images are eaten. Some of us are gourmets,
some gourmands, and a good many take their images precooked out of a can
and swallow them down whole, absent-mindedly and with little relish.

- - - W. H. Auden - The Dyer's Hand - - -

this quote makes me think cus i almost believe it, but i don't want to. (I'm interpreting this quote as calling drugs the canned food, you can share your interprtation...) it makes sense to me and i don't want to be that guy downing the canned food. Any thoughts on why they aren't the canned food?? (i can think of a few, such as many drugs are natural...)

my impression of it is that it is society eating out of the can and the people using psychodelic drugs are eating the gourmets.

I feel that psychodelic drugs do help someone to get around their carved in beliefs and biases that they have aquired over time. The problem with it is that their new view doesn't always mesh nicely with societies capitalistic ideals, which I feel are important however.

all I know is that after doing LSD, shrooms, salvia, and cannabis for about 6 months now, I make better use of my time. I practice guitar and piano combined at least 4 hours a day. Prior my drug use all I did was play video games all day and watch fox news beating off to GW.

The most amazing hours of my life have been spent on acid and mushrooms just understanding the world and being at peace with everything. The first time I ever did shrooms the first couple hours were fun and giggly, but later on as I was walking back to my friends house I talked to myself for about half an hour analyzing every aspect of life and making complete sense of everything, talking like a professor explaining life. I went back inside with an extremely sobering feeling. I believe that psychedelics have changed the way I am as a person in a good way and will continue to use them. I have decided I will stick to acid and mushrooms though. And I dont think that psychedelics really change your beliefs, its not like a voice talks to you and tells you certain things about the world. (Well maybe for some people thats what happens.) I find at the end of a trip you just have a more positive, forward feeling towards everything. Sadly that feeling mostly goes away by the morning.

Drugs won't help you see the light, however they do give you a chance to see things from a different perspective.

Every time I do mushrooms I see myself for what I really am and there's no lying to yourself under that kind of mental state. I've learned a lot about the ego and how seeing things for what they really are is key...however I apply this knowledge to myself in a sober state to make sense of it. Doing drugs everyday will cloud your mind (I believe)...make you slower whether you know it or not...doing drugs as a chance to see under a diff light however can be helpfull if you're true enough to search and make sense of a trippy situation hah

I dunno fighting on the internet is retarded debating things is good but fighting is retarded

Drugs alter your perception. For better or worse. And thats why some people hate drugs.
I prefer to be called a dope fiend. Your not a druggie until the drug consumes all your life.

yes, natural mind altering drugs like shrooms, mescaline, and weed i do beileve are helping us understand more becasue they introduce you to parts of your mind which you couldnt discover without the help of drugs. I think your mind is a portal to other demensions and you need drugs to enter that portal.

I used to kind of think that, but man...I think meditation helps WAY more than drugs (and it's a lot weirder sometimes too) in terms of seeing "the light" or "enlightenment"...and to meditate correctly your mind must "be clear and unclouded" (aka sober)
