Well so far so good, its been 12 hours since i quit and only 1 craving so far im holding in there.
When I quit smoking I would smoke a bowl everytime I craved a cigarette. I was pretty fucked up for about 2 days. After 2 days I didnt crave cigs hardly at all, I just found that I needed something to occupy my hands.
But I started smoking again 2 years later. I plan on quitting again once I have at least 3 days off work in a row so I can quit the same way I quit last time.
Good luck!

I'm behind you. Don't give the cash to the Tobacco companies OR the GOVT, which is profitting from your pain.
Just think that you'll be saving 5 bucks for each pack that you don't buy. Put the cash in a cookie jar each day, and when you get a few hundred bucks, BLOW IT on a bag of KB.

Well i buy the stuff regardless :P But yeah i just bought a new pc on ebay a nice pentium 4 gaming system so im planning on putting the money i'd normally spend on cigs, into the cost of the machine with shipping and insurance ended up being $799.98
thats a small fraction on what you've probably already spent on smokes.

Smoking knocks ten years off your life, that'll be the 10 years I would have spent in the nursing home drewling on myself. Time for another puff! :D

I watched my father die a slow and agonizing death from cancer at 51 years of age...he smoked his entire life.
Even when he was dying he was smoking. I would have to sit up all night and catch his cigarettes as they dropped to the floor. He would get angry if I would say anything. So I just sat up with him night after night picking up cigs and putting htem out. It was the hardest, saddest, event in my life. :( :(
I find it really hard to understand how my father put tobacco and paper ahead of me. I will never understand it. ....what a really a selfish thing to do....
You are doing the right thing...smoking hurts the entire family when cancer is the result.....
I wish you all the luck in the world....I hope you are successful.

When you empty the last couple of ash trays, put those butt's in a jar with a screw on lid, pour in some water, make it nice and gross, then just put it under the sink or something.
When the cravings get really bad go get that jar, and have a good look at it, imagine that crap going into your lungs, then open it up and take a whiff, shit its gross, but those cravings are gone in a flash, works like a charm.
Keeping a pen or something to chew on sometimes helps as well.
Good luck bro.

That's great PH!
I saw Dr. Andrew Weil maybe one of the coolest physicians in the world say that there is only one thing more addicting than heroin or crack, and that is nicotine...
I have been trying to quit on and off for years but it is such an elusive, trickster monkey.
Good luck and it will inspire me knowing that there are others out there, like you, that are fighting the same battle I am...
Any suggestions from those of you who have succeeded?
i've smoked at least 10 cigarettes prolly morebefore haven't become addicted at all is that wierd. i don't know why i smoke them just when im bored and have no weed.

Well 22 hours and 20 min smoke free so far ive had 2-3 cravins today but its bput 48-72 hours when they get bad lol so i just gotta hold on for the next couple months. And by the way 187, it takes alot more then 10 cigs to get you hooked, and do you acually drag hard and inhale it like you do weed lol. When i first started it was sorta outa curiosity, and i got a buz and im like are ppl serious this isnt that cool i dont know why ppl smoke, well i kept at it and eventually the head buzz went away and i kept on smoking, eventually cravings started to appear, and before i know it i was smoking a half pack a day, always having that first cig soon as i wake up. This shit is no joke. Don't ever start be glad your a non smoker.

Bluecat, the reason is the longer you smoke the more addicted you become and the harder it is to quit, the thing with cigs is it alters your brain pathways so as you smoke more and more you need it more and more your your dad was a complete slave without any control to them. Nicotine is on par with heroin and crack if it became illegal the current addicts would steal, lie, chear, murder, rape etc to get the drug.
Just learn from it and never take a puff stay smoke free for life, do it for you dad and yourself man.

Oh man I say this all the time but 24hours with out a cig! That takes some balls man!I know if it was me, I'm like 3 hours later talking on the phone smoking a bowl and lighting up a cig. I love menthols, which is worse then the rest of them but damn i love the tatse and how it clears my clogged nose and throat, and i do inhale like weed my mom caught me doing this the other day,and was like DON"T do that you'll kill yourself quicker by inhaling it like its a joint...and i'm like  okay, so here lately i've been trying to take smaller inhales..its not working out 2 good.

Thanks I know it is hard Toker.....you are right the addiction must be terrible if people will put it before anything or anyone...
I use to go to the candy house and buy my dad rum balls when he was trying to stop...lol
My sis stopped...she smokes weed and said it helped to calm her down while she was quitting. She has been off them 2 years now.
Are you using patches or pills or anything?
I hope you make it, with all my heart, I really do.
Keep us posted on your progress ok?
Hey you can email me if you are having a rough day and I'll send you gross cig pics :)

Great to see this thread. I am also planning to quit. Been smoking since 16, and am 35 now. I quit during both of my pregnancies, and unfortunately started up again. My mom quit on April 1, and hasn't had one since--although she's putting down the lollipops like no tomorrow!
I don't know when I am going to quit--I'll wait until the kids are back in school. 2 little ones screaming around ALL day EVERY day isn't very favorable for kicking the habit!

Well after 37 hours i caved in ahhhhhh! Couldn't stand the cravings anymore and at night can't get any sleep i just toss and turn all night long and feel tired / miserable in the morning. I sent an email to one of the nicotine vaccine companies to try and participate in one of their clinical trials at this point im desperate as fuck to quit, i don't wanna die of cancer and the cost is rediculous thanks for the support gonna try again soon, sucks cause i have no weed and that would help with the cravings and help me get some sleep but there just isnt any available plus im near broke atm this blows big time.

Have you ever tried Melatonin for sleep?
PurpnCoke34
08-01-2005, 04:37 PM
Ive been smoking for over a year now... I smoke a cig everytime I drive or after I puff some sweet leaf. But that's about it, I can go a whole day without smoking easilly, I dont really have cravings. I think if I wanted to stop, id just quit buying them. But maybe Im in denial... Who knows... I dont think Im addicted just yet.
Toker4LifeVT

I've tried melatonin, over the counter sleep aids, the new drugs like Ambien and nothing seems to work. I really don't know what to do.
BlueCat
08-01-2005, 05:11 PM
Man ambien does not work either? Poor Toker....that sucks....
I double the dose and melatonin and it really works for me....
So does your mind just wander all night or what?
Toker4LifeVT
08-01-2005, 05:30 PM
Yeah i might have a worse sleeping disorder thats agitated by the nicotine withdrawls making it impossible to get some sleep, when im smoking before bed i get to sleep in bout an hour or 2 but without i dont get a wink of sleep... if only i had some good bud, combind that with zyban and lots of support i might stand a chance, im hopin to get that shot, but with it in clinical studies i dont know if i can get in on it :( :( , told em in the email id sign a release form im desperate lol. id like to contribute to them getting it on the market for everyone else that could benefit from it.
