aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh OMG i love cradle of filth!!!!!!!!! you could try BAL-SAGOTH, kinda hard to find though....AVENGED SEVENFOLD isn't really in my league, but i find it cool anyways....the older stuff by SOILWORK is great...if you wanna sample lots of good metal artists, try looking up a series of CD's called METAL FOR THE MASSES

I see non of you have heard of Amon Amarth! Seriously, check them out if you like any kind of metal. They're one of (if not the) heaviest bands I've ever heard, along with some of the most inspiring riffs I've ever heard. They're a Swedish death metal band. IMO, "Vs. The World" is their best album. "thousand years oppression" and "across the rain bridge" my favorite songs. It's usually themed around Viking conquest and gods and the such, makes you feel very powerfull.

jadeius
07-27-2005, 12:33 AM
amon amarth reminds me of star wars for some reason, can't remember why

mellow mood
07-27-2005, 12:37 AM
i think morbid angel kick ass from far a lot of those balck metal groups. i love pantera too, nice fuckin solos. metallica is good but not the best, just good instrumental and melody songs.

i guess thats it, but im not a big metal fan/.

dont you mean goth vamp shit...?

jadeius
07-27-2005, 12:46 AM
yeah, CoF isn't exactly satanic, they're just weird as hell...they write about stuff ranging from succubi (beast women who woo you and then steal your soul, there was an episode of south park about them lol) to vampires of course, to Elizabeth Bathory, and so on...centered on sin, maybe, but doesn't make them satanic, it's kinda the same obsession as horror movie freaks have

"Raped of faith,
She now embraced
The narcissistic unrest
Frozen on the mirror's face...

With this disdain,
Inside these veins
Highborn wanton that she was,
She sought to keep what age would claim...

Her soul was sold,
And for this toll,
Reaking pyres ever smouldered
On the whims of one so in control,

Elizabeth, mysterious,
Cruelty brought thee orchids
From the bowels of the abyss"

anyone wanna guess what it's about?

Death, Decapitated, Fear factory (they are kind of commercial sounding but they have some superbly heavy moments, check out drones or act of god), Strapping young lad, Arch Enemy (I'll put them up against otep any day, this chick can scream!), Dying Fetus, Sepultura has there moments, The berzerker.

looseends
07-27-2005, 01:15 AM
the only song i can think of right now is enter sandman. then there's usually anything by nine inch nails.

makor01
07-27-2005, 01:16 AM
ah man if you want some heavy fear factory go back to the soul of a new machine days, back when they thought they were death metal lol. They didnt start the industrial stuff till demanufacture...but that was a nice change....great band...i love fear factory.

I have soul of a new machine, and a few other albums, I really think their heaviest/best album is the most recent. Mostly because its got a real refined sound to the production end of things. The super crisp double bass seems so much more explosive and brutal than the untriggered stuff from yesteryear. Don't get me wrong though... I still love the old stuff.

oi..some of the new drums seem too perfect to be live drums. drum machines?? nothin wrong with that. i have Digimortal and Remanafacture. Good stuff. Smoke weed. Now. Bitches.

... they aren't machines they are triggered, and in a studio you can make everything sound perfect. I've heard live shit, and they are still on point, Fear Factory definately has my respect for keeping it real tight.

makor01
07-27-2005, 01:44 AM

If you want somthing heavy get some cannibal corpse....
if you dont want such heavy singing get some
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD
they are one of my favorite bands out there at the moment...some of my favorite (and heaviest) songs are
"oh my fucking god" !!!!!!AMAZING SONG!!!!!!!
"home nucleonics"
"relentless"

Devin townsend (lyricist for syl is a genious....absolutly amazing singer and song writer)

if you want some stupidly insanly heavy music check out anal cunt or agorophobic nosebleed

if you like stuff like cradle of filth and dimmu borgir but want somthing less main stream and heavier check out stuff like "emperor" its not as gothic in the way that CoF and DB use poetry....but its dark and heavy

here are some other bands lol.....
Anaal Nathrakh
Anorexia nervosa
Behemoth

shhiiit im not going to make a huge list....if you want more suggestions then just ask.....

but if you actually like heavy music check out strapping young lads "city" album........i PROMISE you , you wont regret it.....its FUCKING AWSOME....words cannot describe it....lol...i live for that shit,.

Az.
07-27-2005, 11:49 AM

by the way, SIX FEET UNDER, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, i find they have no melody or musical value whatsoever, can't even understand anything, just a bunch of random shit and grunting

you dont know much about music than because the drumming is unreal....and being a guitar teacher myself, the guitar is definately not easy.....melody isnt a neccessary component to music....in fact too much melody is boring and too simple to me...i like my music extreme, brutal, technical, progressive, with hints of melody.........check out Psycroptic - Sceptor of the Ancients
Meshuggah is a good place to start in the world of "real" metal..lots of odd time signature stuff, jazzy guitar solos, heavy

jadeius
07-27-2005, 03:30 PM
i agree on dimmu and emperor and even fear factory....the heaviest f.f. album, i think, is Obsolete, it's the most original, and the least redundant, it's like the more music they make, the more i get tired of hearing the same shit in a different order

dooman
07-27-2005, 03:31 PM
Decapitated, devolved, disavowed, devourment, deeds of flesh, disgorge, dementor, deranged, despiced icon, darkness remains, desecend into nothingness, behemoth, capharnaum, martyr, quo vadis, beneath the massacre, devilyn, trauma....to name about .01% of the bands that i like that are heavy as fuck with awesome drums/guitar/vocals

jadeius
07-27-2005, 03:41 PM

Meshuggah is a good place to start in the world of "real" metal..lots of odd time signature stuff, jazzy guitar solos, heavy

yeah you're right, the drums and guitars are out of this world, but it's a little too far out when i can't understand any of it, and i have listened, over and over

i like simplicity, if it's simple yet unique and understandable, then i think it's good....cradle of filth has some pretty complex fucked up guitar riffs, but it's simple and patterned enough for me to figure out how to play numerous songs....my friend got her guitar petals back from me so i can't play much now 'til she brings them back :( mine's broked

dooman
07-27-2005, 03:46 PM
man trust me thats how it starts i started with Children of Bodom cause you can make out the vocals etc......over time you become more and more accustomed to "death vocals" ...i been listening to heavy shti for 3 years now and the heavier the better :) ...try this........download a Decapitated song try....3 Dimensional Defect....he does a very brutal(not gutted) death growl and if you read along with the lyrics(i use darklyrics.com) you an make out every word he says perfectly....it almost shocked me how understandable it is....and now i can sing alnog without seeing the lyrics and can usually udnerstand most death vocals unless they are extremely gutteral

jadeius
07-27-2005, 04:02 PM
3 whole years huh? try 8 years of it...i still just like melody and stuff like that, but hey, i'm a big techno/dance fan too, so that's where my tastes are a little different....i do like some of the stuff you're talking about dooman...it's pretty damn wicked, but there's no "color" to some of it...makes me think of grey and black and silver, which would have been cool back in the day...but quite frankly, i like music with a whole palette of different things, devoid of monotony

jadeius
07-27-2005, 04:03 PM
it's hard to understand cradle of filth just as much as those other bands, but that's one reason to read the lyrics as you said

Az.
07-27-2005, 04:31 PM
if you read the lyrics to the music its almost a story with most metal bands which i think is pretty cool......actually thats pretty dumb i guess most music has some sort of story behind it but...these are the fairy tales of storys or somthing but

.........check out Psycroptic - Sceptor of the Ancients

FUCKING AWSOME BAND.... that song Sceptor of Jaar-Gilon is my fav....i was trying to read the lyrics along with it but i got lost like a quarter of the way through and its almost imposibble to find yourself again...

ok, dooman, i've looked up some of ur bands my man, and here's my take:

psycroptic gets an 8 out of 10, simply due to their unique distortion

necrophagist gets a 9 out of 10, because they are original and talented as hell, the guitar is fuckin out of this world, definitely a keeper

arcturus gets a 6 out of 10, because it's just kind of shitty...i did like the song called "Enter the Haggis" because it reminds me of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" except it's more like "Satan Busted Hell Loose on Georgia" ... but DAMN they go off on that piano and violin shit

I couldn't find Subterranean Masquarade, and I even tried to spell it "Masquerade"

I found 4 songs by Woods of Ypres, but they wouldn't download

dooman
07-27-2005, 07:47 PM
read reviews of arcturus they are like music gods....they have artists from soo many dif bands prolly some you liek and know...they do jazz, astmophereical, black, death, doom, folk metal hybird lol with opera vocals to daeth growls to clean vocals

actually the first album is called "onset of putrefecation" or soemthing of that sort not necrophagist, thats the band name....and the the fact its all Mohammud Suicmez is what makes it suck.....if only it was REAL DRUMS like his 2nd album Epitaph i would love it but i CANT STAND drum machines..

go together like....wine & cheese? I LIKE CHEEEESE!

i use limewire...it's great....morpheus is supposed to be the upcoming good one, but i can't seem to ever find anything on it that i want...limewire really gets out there and finds it for ya....i download tons of full albums that way

CoF's drums are so clean because of the acoustic kit he uses ... personally i think there's nothing out there quite like CoF....Midian reminds me of a huge storm surge, Cruelty and the Beast reminds me of big beautiful cathedrals, and i think Nymphetamine really was a turning point for them, dare i say almost mainstream...i totally understand why some people hate them because of Dani's shreeky voice, you really gotta be into that kinda thing to like it, i love to listen to them while I'm reading Dante's "Inferno" ... it brings out some of the sounds you would expect from hell, tortured shreeks, organ grinding, rumbling, what have you...

CoF's drums are so clean because of the acoustic kit he uses ... personally i think there's nothing out there quite like CoF....Midian reminds me of a huge storm surge, Cruelty and the Beast reminds me of big beautiful cathedrals, and i think Nymphetamine really was a turning point for them, dare i say almost mainstream...i totally understand why some people hate them because of Dani's shreeky voice, you really gotta be into that kinda thing to like it, i love to listen to them while I'm reading Dante's "Inferno" ... it brings out some of the sounds you would expect from hell, tortured shreeks, organ grinding, rumbling, what have you...

there isnt anyhting out there like cradle of filth...its a fact...(maybe)
and yeah i would agree nyphetamin was aimed at a more mainstream audience....however it is still a very good album imo

lol....good point
and i have never heard of any of those bands except burzum which i havent heard yet....which album would you suggest i get?

Another great heavy band is nile i only recently got into them but i find them amazing.....insanly good musicians.
If you are looking for some heavy songs to listen to, today i would suggest
NILE - user-maat-re (off their newest album Annihilation Of The Wicked)
and
Bloodbath - breeding death ep (this may be a bit harder to find bu it is a very good ep....)

if i ever started another band, i would most likely be the first neo-cradle of filth

once i got into it, it's all i can even associate with guitar anymore

that's why i haven't started another band, i haven't found my own groove

as for the band i DID start with a few friends, well, flopppp....the drummer we had was all limp bizkit and hip-hoppy, which gagged me, and the other guitarist was a guy that i had recently gotten started on guitar...and our bassist was just hopeless....my vocals weren't reliable enough, especially when i was the only guitarist with more than a few months of experience...

it's pretty hard to come by good metal talent in the bible belt eh?

A lot of good bands listed here on this thread, here is a few of my favs, sorry if its been said:

PANfuckingTERA-sorry had to say it :D
Mnemic
American Headcharge
The Bled
Probot-Dave Grohls side band, surprisingly heavy as shit
Burnt by the Sun
DamagePlan
Corrosion of Conformity
Down
Dry Kill Logic
Hatebreed
High On Fire
Norma Jean-heavy as FUCK
Poison the Well
Superjoint Ritual-Phil.A of Pantera(RIP) side group, same with Down.

That's all I can think of at the top of my head. The Bled, and Poison the Well, are not super heavy, but still pack a mean punch. Check out High on Fire, Corrosion of Conformity, Down, they all fall in the same lines of stoner rock.

Check it oot, peace.

If Dimebag Darrel was still alive, and Pantera hadnt broken up, then I would have to say moshing to domination or cowboys from hell live would be an absolute fuckin trip man. Then I also like slayer and children of bodom who are heavy as hell, but I recently got into this band called racer x, its all instrumental (no singing at all for all you dumbasses :P) and I swear to god...their guitarist sold his soul to the devil lol, hes just absolutely fucking phenominal, I havent heard anyone shred like that before...ever.

A few of their songs have lyrics, such as "Street Lethal".

I'm a huge Racer X and Paul Gilbert fan and my two favorite songs are"Scarified" and "Technical Difficulties" respectively.
