View Full Version : What A Paradox

I was just on a Republican forum on MySpace (http://myspace.com) and something struck me as odd....

They were talking about the Patriot act and how great of thing it is. When it was brought up that it actualy attacks, weakens and outright takes away some rights.... the Neo-con faithful all responded with.... "I would gladly give up some of my rights if it is to keep me safer."

Well then.... Why not let the government repeal the 2nd amendment that so many of you hold so dear to your hearts? The government wants to take away your guns so you and your children will be safer.... it's proven that guns in the home are more likely to kill or injure a family member in that home than to ever be used in self defense.... So we should take them away to make you safer..... Shouldn't we?

It's ok to take away your rights if it makes you "safer" right?

Why is the 2nd amendment there anyway? Oh yeah... it gives you the right to keep and bare arms..... to form and maintain a militia.... and for what purpose? In case we are invaded by some other country? NO! It is there so the people have the power to rise up against it's own government..... when it becomes corrupt with power and starts to take away rights and oppress it's own people...

But the government is taking away your rights to keep you safe.....
and it is taking away your rights..... to keep it's own safety..... because they want to slowly make you weaker.... to wear you down.... to take away your rights.... little by little.... take away any power or resistance you may have had so eventualy, the government will not have to answer to it's own people....

God damn what a paradox.

Very true about the guns. I can imagine your frustration as an American at the joke that is your government. Chin up aye? :p

That's typical Enlightenment philosophy, the philsophy upon which the USA were founded. Unfortunately, your government seems to regressing into some sort of Medieval mind set...

It's an excellent observation. Thanks XTC!

what did he know though...benjamin franklin...those nutjobs who wrote the federalist and anti-federalist papers and declaration of independence and constitution to protect us from government tyranny sounded like a bunch of nutjobs...they should have bowed down to their lords and worshipped their government...or maybe they should have just left the country if they hated it so much.

am i really supposed to believe everything the declaration of independence says, and all the grievances listed...come on...tyranny is a conspiracy theory, unless it's happening in some other country.

true. so true.

i hate the idea of another attack, but what's left after reason and logic? i hope terrorists dont attack at least i hope they attack somewhere else. as selfish as that sounds.
