Kid get arrested for Burning Flag. (It's somewhat funny)

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - A teenager was jailed for nine days after being accused of burning an American flag on the Fourth of July, and he faces trial next month.


While the case could test a state statute against flag burning â?? an act the
U.S. Supreme Court says is protected under the First Amendment â?? prosecutors said Andrew Elisha Staley has yet to argue that he was exercising free speech rights.

"Bottom line is, the kid got drunk," said Lisa Lee, his mother. "He's never been in trouble before."

Staley, 18, is accused of taking the flag from a residence and setting it on fire. His father said the teenager "has no reason for anger against the United States" and could easily have ignited a garbage can(LOL My Favorite Part of the Article) instead of a flag.

"He was brought up in church, and he knows right from wrong," Doc Staley said.

Doc Staley said his son has been "floundering around" since dropping out of high school. "This is where the drinking came in. And he's not very good at it," the father said.

The teenager was released from jail Thursday on his own recognizance while he awaits his Aug. 2 trial on charges of desecrating a venerated object, underage drinking, littering, evading arrest, burning personal property and theft.

The Tennessee flag-burning statute makes the crime a misdemeanor, punishable by less than a year in jail and up to $2,500 fine.

^^^^^ just to set something straight... the hells angels are a bunch of fakes!! ever heard of the Hells Hinchmen? well they were the first real biker gang. in 67' thousands of Hinchmen set route from detroit to california to put the angels in their place.. The Angels heard about this and called the cops...The national guard was sent out to the cali line to stop them....

My point is that they take great pride in their rags and wouldn't tolerate that sort of disrespect. Most people of any country has the same respect for their flag. If you have a problem with the government, show some respect and use a different format to show it. This topic was talked about once before and as I recall, there were a few people that would treat that individual in the same manner as the Angels would treat that manner of disrespect.

Sure, to each his own. Forgive me if I don't think kicking the shit out of someone for venting themselves seems a little extreme. I'm sure the "hell's angels" don't tolerate a lot of things.

Anyone that burns their own countries flag is an asshole, end of story, but they're not a criminal. The only thing they hurt is their pride. It's bullshit to lock someone away like a criminal for burning a piece of cloth (either way you look at it, that's what it is, hell's angel or not). Let them sort out their own issues without getting bummed in prison showers. People have escaped jail after doing much, much more.

THATS one of the parts of the system, as it is, that I can't stand! Some fuckin pervert bangin kids has rights? Like hell! Instead we'll bust and lock up a basic toker. Unreal. The problem of the flag is that he has the right to burn but people that take great pride in that piece of cloth WILL kick his ass if he's seen. Guess what? The little punk ass bitch would be the first to call the law and have them busted for assault not to mention a civil suit afterwords for his fuckin emotional trauma. If your a big enough asshole to beat someone up for their views, then you deserve to be put in jail. YOUR the criminal, because you assaulted someone who in the sense of logic, really didn't deserve it.

hmmm...seems you forgot to mention the lack of fear of being put in prison for burning the flag.


you see, psycho you're just like alot of other easily manipulated people. you delude yourself thinking you have so much freedoms and guess what...


you dont even realise that this so-called freedom is stripped bit by bit. sure, the land of the free...but as soon as you start fucking around and putting pressure on government because other citizens are on their asses then there's no problem with your rights being taken now is there?
