I have been hearing impaired since I was born and wear hearing aids that are visible behind the ears. I always rely 100% on my hearing aids and always have a VERY hard time understanding what other people have to say on a conversation
this
1. Denies me friends, girls, and social interactions
2. Makes me all alone on Saturday and friday nights when everybody else is partying
3. I dont have any friends, never got laid, and am 19 years old
I feel comfortable at strip clubs because of the attention I get. I feel very worthless in this world...I am a wall to everybody. Now since you have a general backround of my miserable life, since I introduced my life to Marijuana a few months ago I immediately noticed fantastic effects pertaining to my hearing loss.
A few minutes after toking up, when everything gets very slow, and I become embraced in my own world, I could sharply, clearly, understand people...100% of what they say! This is contrary to my sober way of hearing.
I can understand their body language, and read their lips from like 50 feet away. Social interactions become very easy and relaxed, and I can follow thru a conversation so easily. WHY CAN I ONLY HEAR ON MARIJUANA AND NOT SOBER?
Is it the relaxing effects? Is it maybe my altered level of concentration?
Whatever the reason is...I dont know...maybe you do? Still even though I can understand and hear what everybody says, I am afraid to approach them stoned, because I act stupid stoned u kno? Maybe just 1 hit will get me hearing what everybody says..but not to high or anything u kno? I will experiment with this..but I think there may be a new medical reason for cannabis..I am not sure at the moment.
ANy theories on this?

though I dont have hearing aids cuz I cant afford em so it's hard for me, but mj makes life a bit easier if used rightly.
and I thought I was the only one, I know what your talking about when you say everything sounds a bit clearer.

Do you know if there is a right dosage to smoking Marijuana in order to get everything to sound clearer, but not to get too high?
I feel better knowing that I am not alone in this world, and I am very sorry that you cannot afford hearing aids. WHen I take off my hearing aids, I can almost hear nothing, is it the same with you?
Peace

I'm the opposite. I have a fair whack of hearing loss due to a concussive head injury many years ago, but I can still understand people, if I pay attention (and if I can see their lips - I guess I subconciously read them to aid in my understanding). But, when I'm stoned, I have a much harder time understanding.

why do you think marijuana and the music industry go hand in hand

Off topic but there used to be a deaf school near me, those kids love to smoke. The sign for weed in ASL is like u would expect thumb and forefinger together and press to lips.

TwJ, my sister is deaf (& one of her sons too). They stayed with me for a few months & we smoked together quite a bit, late at night. I sign (not fabulously, but ok), & she's superb at lip-reading, so we don't usually have problems communicating. But I swear that when we were both high, we could have much clearer communication on both ends... it was sooo amazing. We had the deepest conversations, but we understood each other perfectly, with no mental-translation-delay.

Don't let your hearing impairment hold you back sweetie! My sis is 90% deaf (since birth), & isn't scared of anything. When I want to spend a Friday night just chilling out at home, she loves to be out dancing & meeting new people. You'd think it'd be the other way around, but nah, she kicks my ass, lol. And my 8 yr. old nephew, shoot! That kid is off the chain... he makes friends with kids he doesn't even know. And with both of them, most of their friends are hearing. Sometimes there can be a communication problem, but just ask people to repeat if you need to. Many people don't understand how to enunciate their words, which can be a challenge, but make them do it. We need more clear diction in this world anyway. Relax & enjoy the gift of your life. :)

Mlleyeuxbleus, that's pretty cool that you can do that with your sister, and she sounds outgoing.. and shit.
And i'd say it's the fact you're high, that's making your hearing better, and if you aren't high (enough) you wouldn't be able to hear like you do.. hope it makes sense:)

Mlleyeuxbleus thanks so much for your words of encouragement...you have lightened my aura up :) Your sister and Nephew sounds like they are wild, on the edge kind of people! Does your Sister have to wear hearing aids or is she rely 100% on the lip reading and sign language?
I never learned sign language, so I rely on conversation and lip reading.
What's strange tho..is that when I try to read people's lips, sometimes I cant comprehend what they are trying to say, no matter how clear they move their lips. But as soon as I get high, I could read other people's lips within a 50 feet radius, plus their body language reveals to me their motives...It's like I could almost read their minds!! I guess you are your sister have that deeper undedrstanding high...like I get when im stoned.

Toking... you're very welcome! :) Yeah, my sis & nephews (she has a hearing son too) are fabulous human beings, & of course particularly precious to me. She does wear hearing aids, actually just one. For some reason one ear does fine with the aid, but the other is irritated (I guess it produces a weird sound or feedback that drives her crazy). Even with her hearing aid, she only has about 30% I think. You have to catch her eye to get her attention most of the time, unless you yell super loud.

She does sign, as I mentioned, but out in the world she has to rely mostly on lipreading & trying to hear, because most people don't sign. And of course she can get interpreters, but she's so damned independent that she usually prefers to just do her own thing. When all else fails, there's always pen & paper. I've noticed that many deaf & hearing impaired people, & people close to them, are extremely expressive with facial & body language... much more animated than many people. I love that! I think being high can make you more receptive to everything around you, hence food being so yummy & tv so interesting, lol. So it makes sense that perceptions of people could be increased as well. Imho, being high doesn't necessarily increase the actual amount of sound you hear, but it makes you better at reading people & discerning their non-verbal communication. Make sense? That's how it feels to me in my experience.

Wow that's crazy! Marijuana is indeed a miracle drug!

And aren't you the same guy who gets a weird personality shift when you get stoned?

Maybe there's no such thing as audio hallucinations! Maybe there's actual noises going on that our sober ears can't pick up on! This is really interesting...
If anything, maybe I'll stop getting paranoid now when I hear strange ringing and dinging noises, lol.

And congrats to you for finding something that makes you feel better, more confident, and that makes it easier to understand and communicate better with others. :)

I used to have problems hearing all the time. Exspeically after I had my son, because for some reason I couldn't hear anything. Well, When I smoked pot I heard everything and anything. Everyone was amazed at how pot worked like that..

But don't let yourself get down...you have a gift, and you could embrace it.Smoking pot is a special gift alone, but getting your hearing back during it, it's even more awesome!:)Kind of makes you wanna be high alll the time...but not really cause you know you have shit to do.

well I guess i'll go now..

good luck with everything

AFter reading all of your replies, I arrive at the final fact that Marijuana actually DOES increase the perception of hearing to complete clarification! Unmeg unfortunately I live in the military state of NJ, dictated by some fag government :( However, I will dare not let my government decide whats right for me and whats not..it just isnt going to happen with me..
Ill just have to stay underground here.
For Ousted- I thank you for your words of encouragement very much. I will use Cannabis to my advnatge next time I go to the beach, chat up with some nice girls, and have a good normal conversation.
and Imstonedlikeit-Isnt it just amazing how the hearing comes back with extreme ease while high? I am trying to run a google search on Marijuana effects on the hearing but couldnt come up with any. DO you have any luck with such research reports in regards to hearing and Marijuana?
I think this herb has enormous medical potential in that aspect, and I am sure that there's no harm in a little herb for recovering some hearing clarification.
Down with the law,
down with artifical order and chaos

I think the music thing is difinitly related, stuff sounds clearer and you can hear the distinct parts better. But I think the other big thing is the relaxation, you hear better because you are not trying so hard, and aren't worried about being self concious, you can just go with the flow.

It is a good thing that you can hear more clearly with the aid of some cannabis. I have a friend who's hearing impaired and blind. She doesn't smoke the good herb though.
