Hi guys. I'm a recreational user from Rhode Island, which is just a House override away from legalizing Medical Marijuana. I've heard a friend (who is also a recreational, non-medical user) from San Francisco talk about how he was easily able to purchase a cannabis card in his home town, allowing him to buy the good stuff from state-regulated distributors. Also, he says he uses the card to get the police off his back. Now this all sounds too good to be true to be coming to Little Rhody, so I wonder if anybody can verify these statements for me! Any help is much appreciated!

using a bogus excuse to obtain cheap weed from a legite med can. distributor is a pretty scummy thing to do dont you think?? many despertly ill people have fought long and hard to get these laws passed to help the sick and dying please reconsider doing somthing that may jepordise a truly needy persons ability to obtain relief from pain in the last days of thier life now if you have a legit medical condition that could be helped by med can. then great but please dont do somthing that will give the dark side more ammo against us

I agree with you ezjim, and I apologize if I made it sound as if I intended to use such a method of obtaining weed. From what I understand, San Francisco has a very liberal attitude towards the drug, and a number of cops are rather pleased about the cards, even in the hands of recreational users, because it means they don't have to waste precious time and resources busting people who illegally obtained legal weed (which shouldn't even be illegal in the first place and they recognize that). Kind of a *wink wink*, "look-the-other-way" kind of attitude. The "too good to be true" portion of my previous post was meant to say "wouldn't it be great if such a liberal attitude existed in more places of the country". I'm just hopeful that medical marijuana will lead to a more accepting attitude towards marijuana in my home state. Such a widespread approval of the drug is a weapon of the light side, which I believe will eventually conquer the dark side. I'm perfectly satisfied with my dealer and with my thread I just wanted to learn more about the San Francisco cannabis culture. I commend the brave advocates and users of medical marijuana and I do not mean to undermine their effort. I apologize for being unclear and offensive in my previous post.
Take it easy, guys!

1st off, one doesn't just 'buy' a card. a dr.'s signature is required.
2nd, california is the only state with legalized med use that has a distribution system. other states leave the patients fending for themselves...iow, growing or buying it the old fashioned way.
3rd, the prices at california dispensaries are not cheap and are in fact far above street prices in most cases.
4th, expect changes in the california system after the votes and outcome in congress and the supreme court last month.
good luck in rhode island! (but you'll still need a dr.'s signature...)

Hey All just wanted to state my opinion in the matter. I believe it to be a travesty that we spend billions anually in america prosecuting people for marijuana possesion and cultivation for recreational or medical uses doesn't matter really..marijuana is not as dangerous as alchohol, tabacco, or many other classes of narcotics,,,yet they still classify it as such...when are we as a country going to catch up to the rest of the world that is reconizing the facts about the plant...and focus on the reall challenges of poverty, real drug addiction, and crimes...each state could use the money spent on prosecutions every year on much more needed and well spent $$$$$...We as a people need to educate are friends and peers on these facts and plead with them to send letters to there local governments and officials to do something to change this!!!!!!!PEACE
