From BBC news:
Comets - giant "dirty snowballs", as some have called them - are believed to contain materials that have remained largely unchanged since the formation of the Solar System 4.6 billion years ago.
Scientists hope that by getting "under the skin" of Comet Tempel 1, they can gain new information on the Solar System's original composition and perhaps even how life emerged in our corner of the Universe.
You're right... NASA is positively fucking awesome.

I haven't always been the biggest fan of nasa, mainly because of what I've seen on the moon landing and how they're so intertwined with the government, but that's pretty badass. Definately interesting at the very least. Hopefully we get some major insights about how the universe was created.. so that the government can hide them from us. ((You know when we get that absolute proof that god doesn't exist, the first thing we're going to do is destroy it. ;)))

Wow....i was just talking to my step dad about Nasa...and he told me that 14000 years ago in the time of the Prophet Mohamaud(peace be upon him) two men came to him and told him if he could ask Allah to spilt the moon in half and put it back together they will believe in him. So Mohamaud (peace be upon him) asked Allah to seperate the moon. Then the moon split in half and came back together again. The two men thought he used magic on their eyes but when they got back home to mecca the next day one of their friends told him how they saw the moon split and come back together again when they were in the desert. :D Nasa has just discovered that the moon was once split in half and rejoined.

I think if NASA had evidence the Moon was split in half within the past couple of millennia, I'd be able to find something about it, since that has huge ramifications for people studying the various features of the moon and how the thing got here in the first place (which is hotly debated in scientific circles). I can't.

Call me slow, but what does that mean.

That means that Mohammed supposedly split the entire Moon in half, without the huge fault or other evidence of a tremendous release of energy as the two halves crashed back together under the force of gravity being visible anywhere, and somehow only Mohammed and his friend noticed and none of the other cultures (such as the Chinese) who kept astronomical records happened to notice that the second brightest object in the sky separated.

I believe you mean 1,400 years ago, not 14,000 years... Islam began around A.D. 620 according to the Christian calendar. The reason the star and crescent moon are symbols of Islam is because Arabs and other desert peoples navigated the desert using the stars and moon as orientation.

Lily420: I know the book in which the story came from. What I wanted you to show me was the link to the NASA comment.Books are great filled with knowledge, opions, fact, fiction & so on.your story is told to try and gain Faith in Mohammed and Alah.Thats all good & have no problems with anyones faith.NASA bases most of thier statements on fact's not faith, thats why I wanted the link.Because if that story was proven true fact it would convert millions of people &the world would have its tangible proof of a higher power.

Unmeg, there are so many miricles that Allah has left us here on earth. And he left Mohamaud (pbuh) so much knoledge that no one could even know about 1400 (flesh, yeah i meant 1400 not 14000 thanks for the correction :o ) years ago. Mohamaud (pbuh) couldent even read or write. Some people are already very lost that even if they know this they still wont believe it, there is way to many liars. But the Qur'an doesent Lie because it is from Allah and Mohamaud (pbuh) wasent a liar or a magision(sp?).
Also Mohamaud (pbuh) dident split the moon, he asked allah to and he did.
I'll have to base my proof on what my step dad told me for now.
