hello everyone, ive been lurking on the forums for some time now and have learned a lot... or so i thought.

about a month ago i had 3 plants that were doing alright for a few weeks and then all of a sudden they started to get really sick. they had yellow spots on the leaves, the leaves edges were turning yellow, the leaves themselves were actually deteriorating. the new growth at the top of the plants had nearly stopped and what was actually growing were these skinny, hard, and very claw-like leaves... i didnt post at that time because i was sort of nervous about this whole online mj discussion... but i have the same problem again with my new set of plants...

facts about the original grow...
bag seeds
150 watt HPS lamp
18/6 cycle
fox farm ocean forest organic soil
in my office closet 3x4x7 covered in mylar
watered with tap water left out at least overnight

all three plants... same problem...

it had gotten very hot and humid when these problems started so i though the heat had something to do with it... i also though that perhaps i had overwatered... i transplanted the plants and tryed to keep them cool with a fan, but i could not save them... literally this sickness killed them in a few days...
__________________________________________________ ___________

my new grow started three weeks ago... one plant stood out above the rest as the over achiever in the group but they were all at least doing something so i thought i was on the right track this time...

facts about new grow.
bag seeds
4 2ft. flourescents 3 cool white 1 warm kept within 2-3 inches of plants
in standalone closet in basement about 3 x 4 x 7 [much cooler now]
plants in jiffy pots
foxfarm ocean forest organic soil
18/6
watered with tap water left out at least overnight

they grew for 3 weeks and on the 22nd day i noticed the sickness had come back... my overachiver was showing lots of yellow spots, leaf edges turning yellow, leaves deteriorating, new growth from top has nearly ceased except for one last set of those skinny claws...the other plants have pretty much just stopped growing...

they are still sick... i transplanted the over achiever of the group... but this didnt help last time so maybe could someone tell me whats going on with my plants...

ive got some seeds coming [hopefully] from the great canadian seed company and dont want to just end up killing even more plants...

pic one shows the yellowing of the leaf tips
pic two shows the deterioration of the actual leaf
pic three shows the yellow spots and more deterioration
pic four shows the bad growth at the top... notice that the new leaves
are very yellow [nuclear looking] and skinny... they curl like claws also
which isnt too visible in the pic... and havent grown in 2 days...
pic for shows a leaf that is actually crinkling itself up and deteriorating
to the max...

sorry if the pics are not that good... please someone help!!!

wats the ph of that soil? also, have u fed any nutes yet? i wudnt worry about the yellowing on the new growth just yet, ive had that with a few of my 1st plants ive grown and it hasnt done any damage. as im on my 1st grow my advice is far from rok solid but id say nute burn, either from your soil being to strong which is unlikely if they were fine early on, or mayb u fed em? other than that it may b ph or sum other reason. experienced growers needed, cmon lets help this guy out :)

the pH is a little high i think going above seven. whats the best way to get the pH down? i read somewhere that lime or vinegar can be used...

i have not fed the plants anything but water. nor did i with the first grow that went bad...

i read other people on these pages use the foxfarm soil... it supposedly has a good mix of stuff to keep the plants healthy during veg... so that would be the only food the plants are getting...

i cant believe the exact same sickness has come over my plants 2 grows in a row...

ill keep searching for pH info, but if anyone has more advice... please share your wisdom...

thanks.

First you should always use Ph adjusted water. Tap water 99% of the time will be too ā??hardā? to water your plants with. Waiting until the chlorine to evaporate is not enough. Try switching to RO water and give your plants a good flush.

RO water???

ive switched to bottled water with a little lime in it to
get the pH down but i think you are right and a good flushing and
better water going forward may help me... the plant hasnt died yet,
i hope i can save her...

Store brand spring water is fine but a little expensive. If you have a water store in your area you can get good RO water for about .25Ā¢ a gallon. Just use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid is all you need. I carried about 60 gallons total 5 gallons at a time for many, many years.

no water store around here. i found a bottle water page
that had the pH of many different popular bottled waters.
im just looking to pick one that has a neutral pH correct?
6.5-7.5???

thanks for the tips!!! the plants seem to be doing better
just as ive switched them to supermarket brand spring water.

my tap water must be disgusting
