I've got 2 herniated discs in my lower lumbar & one disc near the center of my back is totally disintegrated...
I've gone without the steel rod operation as Ive never been cut open & dont wanna be.
But does weed help alleviate the pain for you all? It seems to help at times even more then a hydrocodone script.

I had a herniated disc in my lower lumbar I believe it was #5. I was in pain constantly sometimes couldn't even get off the floor. This lasted for years, until one day I fell from the top of an 8' ladder landing on my ass on the concrete sidewalk. This happened about 3 years ago. To this day I have been pain free. Before this I was on pain pills, anti inflammatories, cortizone shots, chiropractors, physical therapy, nothing helped. I would not suggest this method of relieving your ailment, I just wanted to share that story. I would not opt for any type surgery either. MJ combined with the other scripts did help it not hurt as much. I feel your pain and hope you find the right meds.

ZigZag I have 3 of them in my lower lumber and I have degenerative disc disease plus I have arthritis in my lower back(where the disease has ate away the disc), in my hips and in both kness(and I'm only 37). I said all of that to say this I to have taken alot of pain pills so many that they wouldn't give them to me anymore(they got where they didn't help anyway) so I started smoking cannabis and it helps more then the pills. I haven't had a scrp. for over a year and don't want one because cannabis is better and without all of the side effects of the pills. I sleep better with cannabis then with the pills. I feel over all better and i don't feel like pukeing all of the time the way I did with pills

you too, eh? 7 surgeries and 2 fusions later (l5-s1 on down) and i'm still fucked up bad enough to get a monthly supply of morph and percs (now ya know why i get cranky at times too...). they work ok alone but work best when a good indica is around. it cuts the pill intake down by at least half and allows for a longer and more restful sleep at night. i've found spice of life strains to work very well, especially his sweet tooth and shishkeberry. but most any heavy indica offers the best relief. some sativa's also help a bit...breaks up the monotiny if nothing else. a good haze, c99 or blockhead (also sol) are good for that...iow, gotta have a variety!

I don't have any herniated discs (at least not to my knowledge) but I do have a nasty spinal and neck condition. My entire spinal column leans very far over to my right side, causing severe pain in my lower back... The bones of my neck also are lying on top of each other in a way that the tips of my vertebre (I can't spell sometimes...) :D are touching each other (that's bad) :( I have agonizing headaches, lapses in memory, my vision is impaired fairly often and my eyes buldge from the pressure. Cannabis is about the only thing that consistantly helps. :( And when I run out I usually resort to alcohol just so I don't feel any pain.
Back problems are no fun at all. 5 million years since we stood upright and we still have yet to get it right. :(
