The bottom leaves (the singles) usually die off anyway....in my experience anyways.....and it sounds like spidermites. I dont know how to treat for them, but someone told me to rinse my plants with babyshampoo and water in a spray bottle for bugs. spray the whole plant , and undersides of leaves untill run off.

Safer Yard & Garden Insecticide - A Specially formulated combination of insecticidal soap and botanical pyrethrums that kills insects on contact. Broad-spectrum yard and garden insect control, including aphids, spider mites, thrips, and many other insects. Using a unique patented combination of naturally derived fatty acids and pyrethrums to knockdown problem pests. Safe to use up to day of harvest.
Safer Garden Fungicide - Safer Garden Fungicide controls common fungus on vegetables, flowering plants, ornamentals and fruits. A naturally derived sulfur-based formula is the main active ingredient. Use up to the day of harvest. Prevents and controls black spot, rust, leaf spot and powdery mildew.
My favorite
Hot Pepper Wax - Targets most garden pests including aphids, spider mites, thrips, whitefly, scale, and many others. Simply mix with water and spray. Pests will stay away from your fruit and vegetable crops. The Ready-To-Use comes in a 22 oz spray bottle. The concentrate comes in a 16 oz. container and makes 2 gallons of spray. Made from hot Cayenne Peppers.
This is from the companyâ??s marketing material but they do work and are all safe to use around a resin producing plant.
Hot Pepper Wax spray will not work well for Gnatâ??s.
