I can help u with the basics, but many others here are still growing & know a lot more about current methods then I do.

I'd use 4 to 6 CFL's to veg the plants initially. Most pro's use MH (metal halides) as they give off more light (lumens). 18 hours of light/6 hours of darkness.

After they are full & healthy you want to change the light cycles to simulate mother nature's change of seasons. The FLOWERing stage= 12 hours of light & 12 hours of UNINTERRUPTED darkness. For this you want HPS light & ballast (Hi Pressure Sodium)
