does anyone know a good way to deal with recurring nightmares?

I keep having the same dreams, and it's getting to be every night. I dream that I'm stabbing myself in the stomach, and sometimes slashing across it, and then I lay there and bleed to death in the dream. I also keep dreaming that I'm laying in bed and I wake up to several people holding me down and eating me alive, or that I hear something at the window and there is someone outside that breaks in and grabs me trying to pull me out(once it was a michael jackson impersonator), or that I'm drowning, or falling through panes of glass. The worst part is that I can't wake up until I've died in the dream, and sometimes I go through several of them before waking up, and when I do wake up, for a few seconds I can feel myself covered in blood or a knife in my stomach, or whatever. I have to keep a trash can next to my bed to throw up in, cuz the stabbing dream always makes me vomit when I wake up.

I can't keep drinking before bed, so if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

FUCK! That sounds like some scary shit! I think somebody deserves a hug for the pain..
never known of anyone throwing up after a dream like that.. come to think of it, i've never heard of such realistic and strange dreams/nightmares, and sorry i don't know any ways for this to stop... you could stay awake forever? or if not, erm.. watch something funny, or some kind of comedy films before you go to sleep and see if that helps.. that's what i would do
Get well soon and watch comedies... Josh:)

I had a nightmare last night, my mum was hassling me for weed...
But it sounds like you have might have to get that checked, thats some pretty disturbing dreams you're getting. Do the dreams occur in any sort of pattern, just randomly or every night.

Im sorry to hear what your going through somedude however,
Theres actually quite a few herbs and teas you can get for NICER and more positive dreams. Any good herb shop should have em. I had really bad dreams kinda similar AND i used to throw up after. So at least youre not alone. I suffered anxiety and depression for a long time and had really bad nightmares. I would vomit from the anxiety when i woke up and then couldnt get back to sleep. I used marijuana for the nausea and for the bad dreams. It didnt always work perfectly but it did REALLY help.
I think you probably should tell a doctor about it tho, just in case He'd probably refer you to some sort of psychiatrist or something. But i'd save that as a last resort, if it gets worst of persists.
Anywho, im fine now and it's largely thanks to MARIJUANA

Good luck!!!

Try to find ways to control your dreams, for an example, you find yourself falling through pains of glass, make your self fly up and away from the glass. If you find that you have a knife in your hand in your dream, turn it into a blunt object, like a smoking pipe or something, that sounds like some disturbing lusid dreaming. Other than that man, I don't know. Sorry about the disturbing dreams.

hatlawer, what herbs and teas would you recommend?

I can't afford a doctor, even with my insurance, and especially not a specialist. They would probably just dope me up anyway. I've been meditating a lot and focusing on some lucid dreaming techniques, but that only helps marginally. I could smoke the good herb before bed, and I know that helps, but I don't really have the money to smoke everyday.

Thanks for the help

Some Dude-
Please take my message as a final warning to the health and well-being of your mental state.
Get off the pot.
Being the concerned fool that I was, I proceeded to do some extensive research on psychotic disorders.
I am 99% sure, according to the symptoms of your dreams, that you have a certain degree of "Night Terrors". It is a sleeping disorder characterized by a blood curdling scream, sweating, confusion, and VOMITING. Night terrors usually occur 1 to 2 hours after you go to sleep, around stage 4 (deep sleep)of your REM sleep. Night terrors can be an underlying symptom of Schizophrenia. Do you know that Marijuana accelerates all underlying symptoms of Schizophrenia to full blown?
DO you know that Marijuana promotes and accelerates emotional disorders in people having pre-existing symptoms of Schizophrenia, in your case night terrors? DO you understand that if you continue to smoke, you are magnifying all pre-existing psychotic symptoms?
A psychologic evaluation is necessary. As for now, please stop smoking, for the preservation of your mental well-being. Cease all drinking also.
Thought I should just warn you...
good luck

Over 1,000 posts you have contributed to this forum, and you suggest that Cannabis is 100% safe, and 100% harmless? Where do you get your sources on that?
Is it backed by research and solid evidence? Please do not underestimate the vast powers of Marijuana...it is a VERY powerful herb that is not to be disrespected and misunderstood. This kid's mental health is on the line here, and I am trying to help him. As for the information on Marijuana and schizophrenia:
The principal active ingredient in marijuana causes transient schizophrenia-like symptoms ranging from suspiciousness and delusions to impairments in memory and attention, according to a Yale research study.
Speaking of delusions...let me ask you...
DO you ever feel Paranoia when you toke?
Surely, I have read many topics on this forum that involves paranoia and delusions associated with toking up. Nobody feels 100% safe after they toke...they inherit a rather magnified extent of paranoia as a direct result of marijuana.
Please understand that this IS a possibility, and eliminating all harmful possibilities would be the most wise decision one can make for the well-being and preservation of one's mental health.
If you thought Marijuana is harmless
you are wrong..
Denial is the word here. I toke up once a week, and I openly admit this.
Please educate yourself.

Sorry if i came off hostile, but that sounds like an over-exaggerated bogus ass study probably tested on some kind of rodent. No,it is not %100 safe and i never said that, but what is?Im not going to debate that. and to answer your other question, yes,i do get paranoid when i smoke weed......cuz it is illegal.Could you please post a link of where you obtained that info

from the yale school of medicine. Please keep in mind that this is a POSSIBILITY, it's not a definite fact. However, I am trying to get this kid to eliminate all harmful POSSIBILITIES, all in the name of goodness and nurturing healthy well-being.
DOnt get me wrong, I love to blaze up, because it reveals my hidden instinctively charged ego. On pot, I do things normally I wouldnt do. and I love that.
I also love the way pot turns me into a genius scientist stationed at orbit #559 in Galaxy Nebula :)
When I blaze up, everything around becomes a virtual reality like order, broken down into billions of mathematicals formulas. Basicallu all atoms and matter around me is composed into a integrated network data of codes, each code in coordination with the next.
god....I love what Marijuana shows me :)
More importantly, its all my brain...Marijuana just allows me to see this :)

****D'Souza and his co-researchers administered various doses of delta-9-THC, the main active ingredient in cannabis, to subjects who were screened for any vulnerability to schizophrenia. Some subjects developed symptoms resembling those of schizophrenia that lasted approximately one half hour to one hour.*****

Honestly i do not think any pyschoactive is going to have a postive effects on someone with vulnerability to schizophrenia.....fuckin yale assholes.

****The principal active ingredient in marijuana causes transient schizophrenia-like symptoms ranging from suspiciousness and delusions to impairments in memory and attention, according to a Yale research study.****

transient schizophrenic symptoms like suspiciousness, delusions and impairments in memory...wtf! those are symptoms ANY pot smoker under ANY condition could display.I see all of those symptoms in certain people i know, and they have no mental dis-abilities.Attention span?! come the fuck on,i just forgot what this post was about for like 5 seconds, and im not schizophrenic...bottom line...those symptoms are not just in a % of shizos who blaze, they are in a % of EVERYONE that blazes.

****These symptoms included suspiciousness, unusual thoughts, paranoia, thought disorder, blunted affect, reduced spontaneity, reduced interaction with the interviewer, and problems with memory and attention. THC also induced euphoria and increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol. There were no side effects in the study participants one, three and six months after the study.****

again, all those symptoms are not restriced to the mentally handicapped. REduced spontaneity?!?! wha tthe fuck is that, how bout fuck you yale cock-suckers for reduced spontaneity. Reduced interaction with interviewer....maybe cuz they are asking so many dumb fuckin questions? But they do have one symptom right....blunted affect...i found that funny.

****"Just as studies with amphetamines and ketamine advanced the notion that brain systems utilizing the chemical messengers dopamine and NMDA receptors may be involved in the pathophysiology in schizophrenia, this study provides some tantalizing support for the hypotheses that the brain receptor system that cannabis acts on may be involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia," he said. "Clearly, further work is needed to test this hypothesis."****

get to work then before you assume things then asshole. And if amphetamines are alreasdy proven to be involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia then why are they legal and dispensed like candy to the american youth? Make a story about that.....

a dream catcher always worked for me. I used to have these horrible reoccuring dreams that dolls were trying to murder me...before I ever saw a Chucky movie...i'm talkin first grade here. Scared the shit out of me...Anyways...being much younger, I put my imagine into a dream catcher, and it worked. It doesn't hurt to try.

In conclusion...
All people with underlying symptoms of Schizophrenia and other various types of mental disorders should not indulge in ANY psychoactives, including that of MARIJUANA.
We both agree on this?
good.
Drawing the fact from that fact, Night terrors is associated with Schizophrenic chemical compositions in the brain and works similar to that of a Schizo...nobody with night terrors should toke up until a Psychologist is seen and studies are done on the person's brain.
And how do you know if you have a pre-existing Schizophrenic mental state?
A psychologist...not the human ego.
lets stick to the facts, and leave the human inflated ego at the door.

i used to have dreams when i was younger about lying in bed, on my stomach, and this giant hand with a green colored aura around it would come down out of the ceiling and pick me up by the back of my shirt collar and pull me up towards the ceiling. i would yell for my mom, and it would drop me back onto my bed, then i'd wake up. i also learned how to control dreams like this. while i was dreaming...alot of the time, i KNEW i was dreaming... (it was still SCARY ass shit) ..but i would just drop to the ground wherever i was and close my eyes and count to 5. then i'd wake up. that's just how i handled them.

And dude you should lay off. All he did was ask a simple question. And you start assuming shit and going off on him. Im not trying to be an ass, but you shouldnt attack someone for asking a question.

yeh i'd definately stop smoking, but, when i stop smoking (and its quite a common effect) after a period of heavy smoking my dreams are mad, so i dont know, maybe its not the best idea.. see a doctor mate.

i used to have a fucking weird thing happen when i slept, id be half awake, but i COULDNT do anything at all, i couldnt talk (at least i couldnt hear myself if i was) and i couldnt move a muscle, my eyes were closed, it was scary shit, luckily i just stayed calm and must of fell back to sleep, but i still remember it clearly.

i used to have scary dreams about being eaten by wolfs and things when i was younger but i somhow learnt to open my eyes in real life and it would wake me up....i could always wake up if i was int trouble.
Now this causes an annoying problem for me because i like to be scared and if i have a scary dream i always wake up as soon as im in trouble...even when i want to see what happens

you might want to learn to lucid dream...where you can completly controll your dreams....it takes a lot of practise but its worth it in the end

I don't know how you survive man, that sounds terrifying. I think you should try laying off the psychoactives for a while. I know it sounds shitty but you need to see if it will work. I am suspicious about this study, but if you are having dreams of this nature its worthwhile to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Fuck, I'm not gonna sleep well tonight just thinking about those dreams. *shudder*
