I used to work for Paramount Pictures and took care of the computer networks for several television shows -- some big ones. So I won't count all the people I met while I was there. And besides, I met the ones I was most awed by totally on my own.

I did some work for the guy who used to run the Universal Ampitheater. As a favor he got me some backstage passes and house seating for a Grateful Dead show there (it may have been just Jerry and Bob, I was so high). Anyway, after the show I tried to get backstage but my name wasn't on the list.

After about 10 minutes of arguing, I was about to give up when someone discovered I was on the "special access" backstage list and they let me in. I met Bob Weir and Bill Graham and shook their hands. Missed Jerry by TWO MINUTES -- damn.

I chatted with Jay Leno at the Rock Store in CA, but so did everyone, so no big deal there. I also met Robert Thompson, the guy who designed the Steal Your Face emblem, while I was working the Renaisance Faire out in San Bernadino.

In the middle of the Paramount lot they have a fake city set up to represent various decades in the life of NYC. I too used to break and smoke a J in the privacy of the unused set lots.

Life on the lots was good. I ran all over cause I did five shows. Used to have to push thru throngs of star trek characters to get into my one show, it was across from one of the main star trek sets.

Which reminds me -- one day my good friend came down with me to the lot one Sunday to help me work out a problem. After it was better, we took a walk around the near deserted lot. Oddly enough, the door to one of the Star Trek movie set was was left open. We walked in and were on a recreation of the original enterprise set, captains chair, bridge, hallways and all. Well, you can guess what happened next -- yes, sitting right there in the captains chair. And we got away un-noticed.

Another time, Tina Turner was belting out some tunes for a Hane's commercial -- I stopped and watched that for a while. Shit, I should never have left -- it was a fun time of my life. And yeah, I had access to a golf cart myself -- though I never took it. There was a lot more to be seen walking.

Who's Gary Snyder?

Book signings are a good place to brush up against celebrity -- at least for 3 seconds. Longest I waited in line for an autograph - like 14 hours -- at a Howard Stern book signing.

It's cool your dad ran the store ... that gave you extra access -- koo

Wow....well, back in MY day (LOL) I was fortunate enough to get backstage and meet Journey. This was in the early-mid 80's, so it was a pretty big deal for us 14 year olds..all in our matching outfits and such...braces on our teeth. Yeah, we were some hot groupies. An experience, anyhow. Other than that, just some of the Pittsburgh Steelers after a game once. And Mario Lemeux....I have a game-used autographed hockey stick from him from 1986...that's my prized possession :)

Gene Hackman, Marilyn Manson, and Conan O'Brien. Oh, and Ramirez from the Red Sox frequently came into the record store I used to work at to buy X-Box games, but I'm not really a sports fan and didn't know who the guy was until someone told me. Also, I thought I was meeting Jon Bon Jovi once, but it turned out to be Kevin Bacon wearing goofy rockstar sunglasses. All of the above were friendly; Marilyn the most of all. I think he was on coke at the time.

ooh, maryjanemama; your sig reminded me that I nearly met Steve Wilson of PT when they were up here last month, but he seemed in a hurry to get on his bus, so I didn't want to bother him. My girlfriend, however, lacks the scruples and tact that I have, and got his autograph. I sort of regret not doing it, because he's awesome.

This doesn't really count, but as me and my friends were getting in our car from the mall, these two guys in nice suits came up and kept bugging us to buy their cd and that is was for a good cause. They used very good grammer and were polite...

We put in their cd called epidemic later and it was them screaming alot similar to System of a Down and they often talked about killing their families and harvasting souls for their dark lord. I was amazed.

I also met the guys from Guts and Nick Arcade when I was little, and the guy from nick Arcade told me if I sent him a letter I could be on the show, but I never was that bastard.

Someone once came up to me and my friends and claimed to be someone from some movie that we later saw didn't even exist. He was some fat guy that smelled funny.

I've met Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, Sadie Frost and Johnny Lee Miller at the same time once at a film screening seminar thing. And Pharrell Williams and his two massive bodygaurds, they were outside a cinema i used to work in wantin a private screening of some film, but no staff wanted to stay open for them so said goodbye and went on my cheery way.
Also tons of UK tv presenters and boybands of the old days but thats not very interesting.

I know a couple people who have met him and had similar experiences. The best being an old friend who was in line for auto graphs right after they cut their hair. He got the front of the line and said "Hey you look like Tom Waits." Hetfield took it as a cut and told him to "fuck off." Stevie Ray Vaughn (got to hold his guitar even) and his brother Jimmy, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, the band Boston, Lionel Ritchie, Ted Nugent, Cheech and Chong, Mickey Gillie, Joe Cocker, sat next to Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top on a flight to the Caribbean once, Joe Walsh, most of the Doobie Brothers (without that lame Michael McDonald), Gary Rossington from Lynyrd Skynyrd, Artimus Pyle also from Skynyrd, and many more I can't think of in this condition.

I've also met hundreds of pro athletes and wrestlers over the years..too many to mention. I guess it's not that big of a deal to me, since it was the lifestyle I led at the time, and it was quite a few years ago. I imagine I had a lot of fun though.....just wish I could remember some of it....

I believe mr Fog. Having worked in Hollywood, it's no news that "famous" people are just tripping over each other ther's so many of them. While I met a lot of famous people, I doubt most of them have even the faintest inkling I exist. And that's fine. Most of them can't relate to us average humans anymore.

What are you gonna be, the next "i hate america" michael moore type character?
Let me get this straight. Just because I am opposed to the actions of the United States government does not mean I have hatred for the 280 million people residing in America, or the land between Canada and Mexico, or whatever you're trying to accuse me of hating. Like most other sensible people, I don't believe that a person should be judged by their nationality and I certainly don't hate anybody or anything just for being American. And I never professed a fondness for Michael Moore. To be honest, I don't even know a whole lot about his works or ideas. My comment about being famous someday was supposed to be blatantly narcissistic sarcasm. I don't actually intend to become famous (I don't know what I could do to get there), but it would be nice.

But to get back to the original topic, I did shake the hand of the lead singer of 3 Doors Down while I was in the front row at a concert.

i used to be in a band with this guy who, after our band broke up, formed a band with another dude, who now is the bass tech for the band saliva.

so basically, through the theory of "six degrees of seperation" or whatever, you all now know saliva.

or not.

I met the entire 2004 Chicago Cubs when I was their "Celebrity Batboy." Steve and Chip even made fun of my because i have one of those little beards that Matt Clement has and those batkids usually look really young and they said i was the first one they'd seen with a beard.

I stayed in the same hotel as Bobby Knight I think two or three years ago and met him. He's actually a pretty cool guy when hes not throwing chairs. Also met Dee Brown and Luther Head and talked with them for maybe five minutes. Also really cool guys.

Does anybody remember Vitamin C? When I was young me and my little girlfriend got to meet her at a concert.

When my dad was at the Mayo Clinic getting a tumor removed, I got to shake Harrison Ford's hand. I was in like 6th Grade and i was reading Harry Potter and he came in the same waiting room as me and sat down just accross from me. I love Star Wars so of course me being an inconsiderate little asshole I went up and shook his hand and talked for like two minutes.

Oh shit forgot i HAVE to include this one. My dad was like 17 when he got a cancerous growth and had to go up to the Mayo Clinic to get it removed. As hes walking through the hallway reading something he bumped into none other than..........................SADDAM HUSSEIN. Can't remember what Saddam was having done there but that was back when the US didnt hate him. He didn't actually bump into saddam he bumped into a bodyguard.

On another interesting note, my ex girlfriend sat on the lap of one of the priests who got accused of child molestation(the Catholic Ones). Not too interesting but I still give her shit about it in school.

Met HRH Prince Charles as well. Briefly, to put it mildly, when he did a walkabout in Somerset somewhere and I was stood behind the counter at my Aunties shop when he bought a 1/4lb of mint imperials. I was 8

when their first album Bleach came out, they had two guitarists. Then, Jason Everman left to become Soundgarden's bass player. I got Kurt's number from Jonathan Poneman, one of the founders of Subpop records. I waited until about three in the afternoon to call Kurt because I figured rock stars slept in late. Well, I still woke him up. This was way before they were famous. I apologized for waking him but I told him that I knew they were minus a guitar player and I thought they were god... I asked him to call me if they auditioned for another guitar. He was very polite and said that they had decided to go as a trio but he took my number anyways and said he would let me know if they changed their minds. A few years later, Nevermind hit, they were a household name, and a few years after that, Kurt was dead. He was such a genius. And I think you are right. Courtney might have killed him. There was no reason for him to kill himself. He was looking forward to a new project with Michael Stipe (REM). Word is he was drawing too much attention to his heroin dealer with his OD a few weeks prior in Italy. Courtney just wanted his money and his unpublished songs some of which she tried to use with her band Hole until she got busted by the bass player Krist Novoselic.

I banged Jenna Jameson so i guess i met her. I know a guy who didn't have sex with her, but, he hung out with her after he met her in a strip club. He says that if he had made some moves he thinks he would've been able to get her in the sack, but, he was too nervous and has no skills. (It's soooo true, he's cute, but, completely clueless). Anyway, he has some crazy pics of the 2 of them together....she seems pretty easy.

The publisher of the local newspaper in Massachusetts where she shot a film with Deniro threw her a party on his back lawn before the crew pulled out. Our publisher had written pro-forgiveness editorials about her after the local vets groups protested and threatened to drive Hanoi Jane out of Holyoke.

I was a staff photographer at the paper and had to shoot the party. After being told to act like she wasn't famous, all our dipshit reporters started asking to have their photos taken with her.

Fonda got pretty drunk on wine and whiskey sours and came over later that evening and sat on my lap and told me I was terminally cute. I don't know why I got a boner, since I'm not into MILFs at all. But I remember deciding to just sit there and keep poking at her and see if she cares. And the band was playing some Frank Sinatra crap, so it was all a little Twilight Zoneish.
