Fruit Flies

I don't like the idea of spraying my plants for pests, but I seem to have a colony of fruit flies living amongst my growth.

Safest way to eliminate???

Fly strips??

lady bugs someone once told me collect lady bugs and release them in your grow room they will kill even when not for food dont underestimate them they are fierce predators. not joking

Yup ladybugs spell disaster for fruit flies and gnats.

Are you sure they are not fungal gnats from over watering?

Yes. They are fruit flies. I think they came from a banana peel I dumped in my trash can. Anyway, they moved in. I only water once every 3-4 days depending on need, and there has been no sign of fungus.

After looking around I found a few fruit fly traps that use smell atrtaction. Safe and quick.

Then again, I have a five year old daughter who loves collecting bugs, including ladybugs. I may have to raid her stash or pay her to collect bugs for me. Somehow the thought of having them naturally disposed of by chewing excites me. I'll probably use a combination of both methods.

What I do know is conventional sprays or sticky tape does not work that well. You can try some wine in a jar. The flies fall in it or sort of get drunk off the fumes and die. This site had a clever yet simple way to build your own traps.
