i am so confused on the whole When to harvest question.....
in the marijuana growers handbook indoor/greenhouse edition by
ed rosenthal it sais to wait till you see 80% or so of those white hairs turn brown then it's mature to harvest... but that is like at 6 weeks or so with my indica and everybody is talking about 8 weeks of flowering
not 6 weeks so should i pick when 80% of hairs are brown or just leave it till their all brown and keep it going to grow bigger and bigger for 8 weeks or what????? can someone help......

I'm pretty sure there's no strain out there which finishes in 6 weeks. What fertilizer/nutes are you using, if it's fertilizer how often do you feed?
Are the calyxes (seedpods) swollen? Can you post pics?

Okay, first off you need to be looking at the pistils, or hairs, on the buds. when you see about 70% of them change from white or amberish color to orange, red, brown or whatever; that's when you cut them. thus "harvesting"
After you cut them at the bottom of the stem, you want to cure them. to do so, hang them upside down in a closet or something, where you can control the air by closing it off, keep the door mostly shut for a day and them move it out a bit each day. after like a few days of that, you might want to cut the branches from the stem and hang them in a cardboard box until dry.
*note* cut them either earlier-for a more cerebral high- or a little later-for the couch lock effect high.

This has been discussed numerous times.
IGNORE the color of the hairs. Why do people still use hair color as a way to time harvest?????
You need to harvest when your trichomes are 65% - 75% cloudy.
The hair color is meaningless in terms of peak potency. Study the trichs at about the 6th week on. Check them daily. When they average 70% or so cloudy milky white, then you harvest.
Did I say IGNORE THE HAIR COLOR?
Yes, I did tee a putty tat...
Follow the trichs Luke. :)

Hair color isn't what gets you high now is it? Trichs are the THC glands and hmm I wonder, What gets you high? OH SHIT ITS THE THC! Goodluck.

The colors of the hairs are only part of the cycle of the plants life. They change color by temperature and maturity at the end of their life cycle. The only true way to know when to harvest is to view the trichomes with a 10x to 30x microscope. Mature trichome looks like a golf ball sitting on golf tee, big and round on the top. The color is clear to cloudy. Cloudy is peak for that trichome. Because there are millions of trichomes you need to harvest on the average. They will continue to mature through the drying process for a day or more. Amber color is past prime for that trichome so you are just looking for an average.

you should feed them with nuts for a week more-up to completing week 6, then feed them only water for 2 weeks (week 8) and then harvest..more or less indicas mature in 8 weeks..

the only one time that i have read a report on a 6 week ready mature indica was in overgrow.....i think it was blue moonshine....the strain finished in 6 weeks but was grown in hydro....top 44 from nirvana is supposed to finish in ~6 weeks (44 days) if everything is optimal..what strain is it that you're growing?

i know but it's my 1st grow and i didn't know that if i put the clones in so small and i didn't know that hps lights if too close to plant can make it over bushy.... man i wish i could have tied them back... maybe the 5 cuttings i took will be better.... any good advise i need to know about when to put clones in and how big is the gap from 600w hps tp plant so it grows more and i can tie it back

pic 1 is 2 weeks since i put the tiny clones under my 600w hps with a 30cm gap from the lights, i only done that because somebody who uses metal halide 1000w said they keep 30cm gap.... little did i know that it would make my plants way tooo bushy and short plants
pic 2 is 4 weeks into veg still with 30cm gap
pic 3 is 6 weeks veg i had lifted the lights to 60 cm gap by then
the other pics are 4 weeks flowering
i really hope to grow the next 5 ladied ALOT bugger so i can chop the crown off at 6 weeks veg and tie back branches and get some real product

Watch out for hot spots hitting a plant from the reflection of a CD.
Have I seen details about your full room set up? (I can't remember)
I keep my clones under florescent until there is good root growth (then again I use only aero-cloners) and 2 full sets of leaves have formed. Longer if the next room is not ready.

so i don't need foot tall clones to have a deicent tree after veg for 4 to 6 weeks? my setup specs are..
about 6m x 3m 3 600w high output hps (1 per plant) in rockwool i have 2 pumps, 1 is for flow, and other is watering, (every 4 hrs for 20min) and an aquarium pump with 2 airstone balls i am using nutrients packaged by my hidroponics shop. i have had no probs i guess.... except that i put the clones in before they had any branches, and only had a gap of 30cm from each light to the plant top. (i thought that hps was like mh) now i have rooted 5 cuttings and wan't to turn them into monstors for next harvest and i have a few from seed but in australia the seeds gettin around are ussually shit

Ah man....you are going to make me think tonight and convert metric to American.....lol
So you are running something like a DWC system or is it an NFT? Are you using rockwool for 100% of your grow medium? Are you wanting to grow trees like a KBS system?
AussieBud
06-23-2005, 08:47 AM
this grow i did use rockwool and my clones are in rockwool but i would try other mediums i don't know what dwc or nft mean and all i know about kbs is that you use that method will you please explain the differant systems abit i am interested in kbs trees, but co2 tank is hard to get for me the local hydroponics store needs to see my drivers licence for my to bye it... but i live in suberbs so co2 isn't bad i think and good ventilation, i don't think i need that risk, i use rockwool in big white tubs with a drip system
