Well I got hired last night to work as dishwasher at a fancy-schmancy restaurant/inn (I'm 17). When I say fancy-schmancy I mean one night at this place costs 700$. Anyways its hard work but the people are nice. My boss is, truth be told, a bit intimidating, but a nice guy once you get past that. He's ex-military and spent the whole night telling me stories of how him and his Hells Angels friends would take kids that piss them off and tie them up at the tide line.
Long story short I am going to make sure to stay on this guy's good side (even though I suspect he might be just fucking with me), and I was wondering about what kind of first jobs you guys have had?

Man the minimum wage here is like 7.35
Bus boy at The Three Rivers Inn. A kind of night club. I was underage, and it didn't pay really well, but I got to see Ray Charles, Bobby Darrin, Buddy Greco, Mike Douglas, and many other "name" acts of the time. Used to sit before the dinner crowds came in and watch guys like Billy Preston and Carl Mayno practicing their chops. Even the waitresses had a lot of class; I learned a lot about night life and the entertainment business from that job.

We've had people like Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard) and Jim Carrey come into the kitchen apparently. We are a big name hotel so celebrities are not a rarity.
As one old man to one not so old, sounds like you've got a pretty good opportunity there to learn and make connections. Nice going. Good luck on the job.

I worked at a theater that showed not quite new movies for only $1 admission.
Concession stand, where everyone tried their best to scam you :)
Rhino, I worked as a mason tender too. The Great Santini, I mean my father, was a contractor, and I'd work summers and free time for slave wages. I don't regret that one either, at 53, I'm still square shouldered and wiry, so there must have been some benefit from it all, though I couldn't see that at the time. Small world.

My first real job (as in not paid under the table and having an actual boss) was last year at college at the library. My first job in my hometown is quite possibly starting on Tuesday. I've worked for myself babysitting since I was like 14 (I'm 20 now) and teaching Spanish to kids around my area for the past two years.
I don't want to work :(

My first real job was working at Baskin Robbins Ice Cream. It was for minimum wage but I can't remember what that was back then ('86). We did get to take home a quart a day, which is actually a lot of ice cream. It was great to get off work, smoke a bowl, and stuff myself with the flavor of the day. The other benefit was that I was the only guy with 5 really hot girls working there.

i once had a job serving pizza at Chuck e Cheese....i never really thought about the person in the chucky suit until they told me to put on the costume. I thought that person was hired specifically to be chucky but it turns out that all the lackys take turns being the damn mouse. You have to go out and let kids jump on you and shit and do stupid little birthday dances. That job sucked and I was chucky only once....

For my first real job I did the same thing as you Sted. Working the dish washing shift at some high-class fancy pants restaurant. The place eventually went bankrupt due to the owners expensive coke habit :) It was an experience I'll never forget tho.

Ha Ha...that's great. How many people can say they were actually the "Chuck e Cheese" even for a day.
That's like being deported not everyone claim they have actually done that..

My first job was a trolly collector for a supermarket. I think I was 14 but had to lie and say I was 16 to get the job. Had some good laughs doing that. But the money was absolute crap.
