HPS bulbs and ballasts

hey guys,
i was wondering if anyone could tell me about High Pressure Sodium light bulbs. i hear they are the best kind to use. i bought a 70 watt one and it doesnt work in regular light sockets. apparently i need a ballast or something. can anyone tell me: how to use them? should buy a kit off of the internet? are they hard to assemble? can i wire the ballast to an extension cord and plug that into the wall or would that be too much for the breaker? what wattage should i get? i have a 70 watt but i have seen 250+ watts. one last question, would these type lights be ok to use in a closet or would it get to hot and be a fire hazard? trying to become a grower with the hot setup. any info you can provide would be awesome. thanks for the responses. keep on growing

Get a 250 watt high preasure sodium light complete from a grow shop or ebay, ideal for 6 plants or more.
Then go to amazon and buy a book on cultivation of cannabis, there are 100s to choose from .
Thats the best pointer i can give you.

yah you can buy a socket for HPS,I did.But it's special it's called magul so it wont say "HPS LIGHT SOCKET".Anyways im in the same situation as you broke.Don't buy assembleing kit when you can just go to menanards and buy the parts.It's not that hard to hook up the parts but if your complete brainless on hardware need to be smarter than the socket.Well these are the parts you need Magul socket,a other socket with ground wires to fit the Magul socket,Two adapter's one for the wire socket and one for to transper to metal things extention cord.Of course your bulb.Me i just finished putting the socket together I just need a bulb and I have a ghetto HPS light.Once it works im gonna post it.

So you're going to wire that together and put it in a damp environment? Well ok, you sound like you know what you're doing with electrics but I'm still waiting for it to work. I'd consider the electrical capability of the readers before you post it though. You will be legally responsible for this design, and given the current sue culture.... Well, I hear good lawyers are expensive. If it works patent it and make it yourself, big market.

I don't know how large your closet is so I can't really tell you what wattage to use but IF you can use a 400 watter this is a great deal- www.hydroponics.net has "Garden Light" 400 watt M.H OR (NOT "AND") H.P.S. systems on sale for $120.00.
