Hi all,

Been smoking for a long time and really need to quit. Been looking on whyquit.com and they say not to use any nicotine products whatsoever, because the cravings will just continue, i want to totally clear the addiction.

I also smoke weed (joints) which i mix with tobacco, if i quit smoking and then come to smoke a joint, i will start to get cravings again because i just got some nicotine, and i will be addicted to joints in the same way cigarettes because of the nicotine.

Anyone out there that smokes weed and was a heavy smoker that has stopped? What can i do to help, is there anything that burns like tobacco that tastes alright that has no nicotine, or can you buy cigarettes without nicotine? Any other advice?

Cheers

I smoked cigs for 15+ years before I quit. First of all you have to want to quit, not because somebody else says you should. Anyhow, here's what I did:

Monitor how many cigs you smoke in a day and when and where you smoke them. Before starting to quit try and start a set schedule of when and where you smoke. Once you've gotten the schedule down cut out one cigarette. Like I would always have one before and after lunch and I started by cutting out the pre-lunch cigarette. Your only cutting out one so you have the next to look forward to. The key here is sticking to the schedule. Try to cut out 1-2 a week until your down to 3-4 a day.

Once I hit 3-4 a day the physical addiction wasn't too strong and I only needed a little bit of nicotene to kill the craving. I went out and found some really nasty little menthol cigars that I couldn't stand. Whenever I would have a bad craving I'd light one of those up. They were so disgusting that I'd put it out long before finishing it. This helped me to basically cut my psysical addiction down to zero.

The mental addiction is tougher and even years after my last cigarette I would find myself craving one, especially when I was anxious. Youget that anxious feeling when you need a cigarette and the nicotene makes it go away. So, if your anxious about something else in your life you start to feel like one cigarette will make you feel better. Just remember that nicotene has nothing to do with what your feeling and therefore isn't going to help.

This is a longer term approach to quitting but it has worked for me. It's been over 6 years since I had a cigarette. Whatever you do, the key is being committed to quitting.

I smoked for over 20 years, about a pack to a pack-and-a-half a day. I quit cold turkey, after many false starts in the preceding years, on May 5, 2003. And I haven't had a cigarette once in all that time, or any other tobacco product. My secret? I was basically flat broke and couldn't afford to smoke anymore, so I had to choose between food and cigarettes.

Eventually, food won out.

I either smoke pure weed joints, or if I want something I don't have to light every 10 seconds, I use legal stuff I bought from a head shop for about £2 for about 2 ounces. It tastes good and really helps it burn.

Ditto that Kramerica. Never had the urge for the tobacco. Glad too. With all my other medical problems, I don't need to add lung cancer to it.

Never had the urge to smoke tobacco, but I did steal my grandfather's cigar once. He caught me and made me eat SIX of them as punishment. Never seemed to have the urge to do the cigar thing again for some odd reason. But I did learn all about a new religion.......praying to the porcelain gods. :(

Doesn't work smoking 'hay',

my cousin and I tried smoking about 60 cigs between us one after the other,

the sort you buy on holiday in Spain that cost about the same as a chocolate bar back home,

Jesus they are rank but after an hour you still get that craving and you wish you hadn't done that as you would love a wee cig right now.

It's not any harder to quit menthols then it is to quit normal ciggs. But I suggest you don't smoke menthols, those things are HORRIBLE for you. Not saying that smoking ciggs isn't bad, but menthols are just.........

I don't know why anyone would want to smoke tobacco anyway... everyone knows it's bad for you, everyone knows it's really addictive... but it does nothing for you. It might relax you a TINY bit, but if you want that then smoke weed or have a bath or something.

Here's what you do, just get a hold of some pure tobacco. Not cigarette tobacco. Tobacco fresh from the field, it's yellowish, orangish. One of my boy's uncles owns a tobacco farm, and he always gives me plastic bags full. i just fill up a ziploc and use that for blend in my spliff. It is 10* better than smoking the cigarette tobacco, that has all the chemicals in it. The way i started smoking cigarettes a lot was i'd break a piece off at the end, and when I was high, I'd crave one, and then it became 2, 3 4 etc. But now i carry a bag of fresh tobacco, so even if I crave a cig after session, i don't have one to smoke.. I still smoke, but not as much as before, I cut out the after-session cigarettes. The longest I quit for was 3 months, the whole of last summer. But when september hit, I started smoking agian...
