In ten years, what is hot now, will be irrelevant (outside of tounge in cheek play, like the "flashback" or "old-school" hour). Rock of the nineties is just as relevant now as it was then.

There are a few exceptions- but quality hip-hop musicians, that actually create music, and play instruments, like The ROots, are few and far between.
