I am working on plans for a veg grwo box and I would like to know if it is better to use compact fluorescent or tube fluorescent lights? It seems that the tube type is approx 40 Watts & 3000 - 3300 Lumans each. Watt for Watt it seems like the tube type has more lumans per watt. So my main question is are compacts better, if so, Why.

Any help would be appricated!

Thanks

compacts can be good for space limitations but the t8s are cheaper and you can overdrive them and you can switch spectrum at wiil as long as you have the extra bulbs. I have a 65w lights of america fixture with a flourex 6500k bulb and it doesnt seem to put out as much light as a standard t8 2 bulb fixture that costs $20 less. im no expert on any of this but these are just my observations. one other thing is you can get more area coverage with the 4 footers

i heard of taking the 4 footers and running them vertical but at a slant so that the bottom of the fixture is out farther on the floor. it will shine up on the more light depraved branches. this promotes good lower bud growth. the guy who did this i think only had 2 or 4, 35 watt bulbs but these two plants was the best flouro plants i've seen yet. the bottom buds where more resinous than the main colas. i think there may be something to his strategy. i hope this helps in some way.

I think compact are more usefull.they are cheaper, and out of your money you can get more lumes. use cool white and warm white :D 1200 lumes per sqaure foot. (both lights in 1 square foot)
