if you are growing in pots, they need to be shielded from the sun. put a plank or something in front of them for shade.
i live in vegas (well near there but did live near valley h.s. for 12 years) and it has always grown very well for me. they just need to be watered several times/day during the hottest months (it's not bad now and once/day should be plenty with good drainage...less if ya don't). it's best for them to be put in the ground tho...
also watch your tap water ph. vegas water is higher than normal and if you see large spots on fan leaves constantly, i suggest adjusting it until the plants recover. it's not hard and well worth the extra hassle. there's an excellent store on the SW corner of flamingo and eastern for any and all supplies..."american hydro".
