I listen to metal primarily, but lately I've been listening to APC (a perfect circle), particularily their song "peace, love, and understanding". I really like their mellow stuff, especially anything with orchestra. yep, call me a hippie, but passive/rebellious songs like the one mentioned above I'm very much starting to enjoy :) .
anywhoo, just wondering if somebody can recommend some music like that. stuff that's fairly mellow (message isn't terribly important). when I get blazed I really enjoy throwing some such music on and just floating around feeling peacefull.
and hey, if anybody wants to know some good metal I can help ya out there :D

hmmm, only reggae I've heard was Bob Marley, but it didnt' really do it for me since it was quite light-hearted. I just want more deep stuff.

if youre into metal i would recommend that you check out Opeth. Theyre Dark, kinda growly at times but they have nice LONG songs that you can chill to if youre into that kind of thing. As for APC i loved their first album but i dont like their new one at all, you might want to check out tools, lateralus album, thats another nice mellow one. Hmmmm what else, im looking at my playlist as i type this....ummm otep is pretty cool too...but theyre nice and angry, usually when i listen to them i want to kill some kittens or something....j/k :D . Check out some Dream Theater too, i would recommend the albums Images and words, scenes from a memory, and stream of consc, i really didnt care for their six degrees inner turb much.
good luck :p

thanks man (man, right?), I'll check all those out :) .
on another note, I really can't see what is so great about system of a down  . I listened to their entire new album and it just seemed like a lot of lunatic ranting and eratic sounds that didnt' even sound like music to me.

well if you guys want some good metal albums:
Soilwork: figure number 5
Amon Amarth: Vs. the world (most addictive guitar riffs!)
Rammstein: Mutter (damnit, why'd they have to ruin their newest album,
mutter was the perfect direction).
Nightwish: Once (Singer is AMAZING, she's a graduate from German opera school, sings in English and once in Finnish (they from finland). very opera like, dramatic stuff).

Opeth is the only "chill" metal band I know of. Maybe you would be interested in some gothic stuff though? If your just looking for some chill stuff though, check out the grateful dead, phish, and other jam bands. Oh, also Bob Dylan.

If you like evanescence's vocals, you'll be BLOWN AWAY by nightwish's vocals. but their new album "once" is 10 times better than any of their previous stuff, sort of a new level for them.
and believe me, I more than know my metallica, first metal I got into :D
I own:
Albums
Kill em all
Ride the lightning
Master of Puppets
...And Justice For All
Black Album
Load
Reload
Garage Inc.
S&M
St.Anger
Singles
Until it sleeps
Hero of the day
I disappear
Memory Remains
Live
Live Shit Binge and Purge box set
Livemetallica.com, 2 concerts, Vancouver (which I was at) and Hammilton
4 metallica vault concerts
but unfortunately no DVD's, for some reason Metallica DVD's are a major ripoff, like $60 on average  .
oh, also if you like evanescence you'd probably like Within Temptation.
Country metal though.... only country metal I've heard was from Metallica

Nightwish is cool. MUCH better than like evanescence. Still a bit on the cheesy side of things. I own like two or three of their albums, but I don't think I'll be purchasing any more in the near future.

I totally agree with you there. Nightwish is amazing, better than evanescence, but the cheesiness of some of their electronics isn't that great. but, that's why I was saying their new album "once" is so great, because the electronics were totally replaced with orchestra and the whole cheesy aspect is gone for the first time. just check out their song "nemo" and you'll know what I mean.
check out pink floyd if you havent already done so.....
Also if you like funny and heavy a bit like mr bungle then check out crotchduster...its hilarious
but my favorite artist at the moment is DEVIN TOWNSEND....he's the singer + guitarist from strapping young lad (check them out if you havent heard them) but his solo stuff is ALOT mellower with some heavier traights......you should really check them out...
CHECK OUT HIS TERRIA ALBUM!

Strapping Young Lad kicks ass. I believe Devin does most of the writing for SYL. I should definately find some of his solo stuff to check out.

Black sabbath is very good, one of my favorites, but if your going to listen to them start with the early stuff, albums like paranoid, black sabbath and master of reality. or get we sold our souls for rock n roll a good mix of their early stuff, it sound like i like the kind of music you like pink floyd, black sabbath, jimi hendrix and led zeppelin are some of my favorite bands
