What does it mean exactly that a strain responds good or bad to topping? Which strain respond better to that? I noticed recently that after topping, the plant stretched quite a bit. But is it common?
Thanks

Topping is the process of removing the growing top from the plant, some pinch it off.. i cut it off..

you can see the difference between a topped and a non topped plant roughly the same size and same age.. sex still.. unknown...

Topping encourages the branches to grow larger, creating many medium sized colas as opposed to one large and many smallish/medium sized colas.

LST on the other hand.. is the art of bending the stem to encourage branche growth, and you get to keep the main cola.. which from what i understand, is the best part :)

mine stretched a little, enough growth to spread the new leaves above the others and then slowed down.

topping is a good option for a stretched plant. it stops the main stem growth and makes the branches grow.

i'd suggest it if there's more than 2 inches of space between the nodes

I need to learn how to stop stretching, no matter how close the light some still stretch well others do not. crazy.

are you using a fan? heat stress from the lights being close can cause all kinda problems

The only TWO reasons a plant will stretch further than you desire:

A) NOT ENUFF RIGHT COLOR LIGHT.
B) GROWING SATIVA INDOORS.

If there is any other reason, I do not know it cuz I am just a dumbshit. :o

I'll pick (B) GROWING SATIVA INDOORS.

thanks.

lack of light will cause u alot of strech....i wouldnt just yet to say its cuz ur growing sativa.....hell i got a pure indica under great light....just as its 3 others sisters have but yet only one streched like that....plants are all different man...even if they are the same strain doesnt mean it will grow the EXACT same way even when grown under the same conditions...this will prove my point...no pix of it..will get some to u soon tho...but ill explain...i have 2 NL down in the basement...both of these plants from seed has been growin under the same growing conditions...yet one is kinda streched...bit bushy but not really b.c of the streching...on the other hand its sister that sits exactly right next to her is VERY short...and VERY bushy compared to the other...plants dont all grow the same..all u can do is give good light and good growing medium....

This one is an Afghan from Nirvana. Should be indica. I put 3 seeds to go outside, 2 months ago, 2 were male declared, deads, and the survivor should be a female. Outdoor, it has got enough light (for the pic i put it away from to much vegetation), and she began to stretch as soon as i topped for the first time. Look at the internode length, 5 inches after the first topping. Otherwise, look like healthy plant. What do you think ? I took a few cuttings, that are happy also.

JUst got back from checking out my plants at my friends house.

Man they have really filled out and seem to be focused on bushing than growing tall now after we topped 5 days or so ago. I am glad we topped so that the plant had time to fill out before becoming 4 feet tall... I may top all my plants from now on. We did one at the 3rd node and the rest at the 4th, the one we cut at the 3rd node is short and bushy but is perfect IMO well the ones with the 4th node off are great as well but a little taller. I think cutting at the 3rd node will allow the plant to stay short well the plant fills out and also gives it time to mature for 2 months without worry about height problems.

I will bring my camera next time and post sometime in the next few hours, I told him I be back to watch American Chopper that he recorded so.... I think he is the only person in AMerica not to own a computer, hell my grandma has a computer!

I have an other related question. Is it recommended to cut some lower branches to maximize other upper branches ?

I did it on the last grow, look at the result. It a good compromise between topping and nothing. I show you my hazexskunk main cola after bending and next time i do my own hazexskunkxbug. Look at this bug, before i kill it, it was very interested by the buds. lol
