thank you.

I sometimes forget this holiday and a few others now mean more to me.

I remember a job I once had, I asked if we got Vet day off and Mem day. He said I was never in the military so I could not have the day off, only if I worked there now.

Hey Project,

Re your old boss. Some people enjoy the freedom but forget about the sacrifices needed to get it. We all need to take time to remember. I am off to a parade that has a large group of Vets that march. I'll tell you, they really appreciate the applause.

It makes me sad when I see war veterans living on the street, it really pisses me off.
A war veteran should never be homeless or hungry or anything. People can be so fucking ungrateful.

On this day, I choose to also memorialize the 4 students who gave their lives for our freedom at Kent State University. On May 4 1970, unarmed students protesting the bombing of cambodia, were fired upon for 13 seconds by National Guardsmen.

Here are the names of those who died at Kent State, so that they may not be forgotten: Alison Krause, Jeffery Miller, Sandra Scheuer, William Schroeder .

Could we not make this into something politicalâ?¦.and try to refrain from smearing the armed forces for just one day would you please.

Vietnam was not a pretty war...

Agent Orange... Napalm... Not knowing the enemy... The general public being against the war in general... the My Lai Massacre... Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution :(

Yeah I get that, but Memorial Day is not Vietnam War Day people should be able to put their politics aside for one day and just say thank you or say nothing at all. They have the other 364 days to undermine a soldiers sacrifice.

Blow out, you bugles, over the rich Dead!

There's none of these so loney and poor of old,

But, dying, has made us rarer gifts than gold.

These laid the world away; poured out the red

Sweet wine of youth; gave up the years to be

Of work and joy, and that unhoped serene

That men call age; and those who would have been,

Their sons, they gave, their immortality.

Thanks ghost .... Today, I honor the soldiers AND civilians that gave their lives for our freedom. To dissent is our greatest freedom. I undermine noone's sacrifice.

To all the soldiers, I can't thank you all enough for what you have done for the world.

Maybe youâ??re right but this is how I took itâ?¦

Today instead of honoring veterans I would like recognize the plight of the anti-war movement. On May 4, 1970 unarmed student protesters that were doing nothing but exercising their right to free speech were murdered by warmongering soldiers in the National Guard.

Read it againâ?¦I did.

So instead of being thankful to our men and women in uniform we should see them for what they are cold blooded killers.

Maybe Iâ??m just being touchy.

I apologize Donnie if you didnâ??t mean it that way, but that is the way it was received by me. I realize the way I receive it is not your problem.

thank you to those who served in the armed forces.

all vets deserve our respect and gratitude. i think it falls upon our shoulders to teach our children the importance of their service so we never forget.

Apology not necessary .... Perhaps I could have been clearer. Message boards can be difficult in that respect.

I was a teen during this time peoiod, and I remember it vividly. The assasinations of Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy, courageous men who gave their lives for freedom. My point was that there is room to honor ALL who gave their lives for freedom on Memorial day.

Howdy Donnie,

While the Kent State incident should have never happened, that fact is,is that they(the students) were supporting brutal commie goverments in the region, with their protests..they were'nt for freedom..they were for communism. And when their protests finally caused the politicians to turn tail and run,the brutal commies moved in and slaughtered millions of folks..that is the end result of their protests.

Today, the Left,is once again, aiding and abbetting the enemies of freedom, with their protests against the war on terror...and if they succeed..millions more will die.

Have a good one....

I agree...

I just thought that your original example using the national guardsmen was in poor taste. Military personal have to defend themselves on all fronts (ESPECILLALY at home) there should be one day when the American public can a least pretend to be grateful and not make light of their sacrifice. I realize now you were not trying to do that...my mistake.

I think that we understand each other alot better. My example was provocative, although well-intended.

tarog --> If you want to debate the "facts" of the event, it is best that it occur in the politics section of the board. This thread was intended to honor our heros on Memorial Day.

Yeah, man I hear yaâ?¦.although provocative might not be the word I would useâ?¦lolâ?¦sorry couldnâ??t help myself. I tend to get a little bristly when it comes to the armed forces. People can talk shit about Bush or whoever they want all day long but I do have my limitsâ?¦..Take care.
