were getting close to flowering so i was getting the basement set up early that way all i had to do was move the plants and turn everything on down there on a 12 12 cycle....after i hung my chains for my 400 w mh ( dont have an hps yet but was gonna get one after this harvest ) i was hanging it and plugging it in and it wouldnt come on...it just kept throwing the breaker, i have no idea why it wouldnt come on b.c b4 i started growing i went out and bought a new bulb and plugged it in ( in the same plugg i used tonight ) and it worked just fine...as if nothing were wrong with it.....tonight it would throw the breaker no matter where i plugged it in at....i have 6 Lights and one fan running in my closet way upstairs in my bed room but they were off at the time of trying to run the 400 w mh.....would them even being plugged up ready to run cause it to throw that breaker like that ?? after 3 times of it throwing the breaker ( 2twice on one pot ) and once on the other side of the basement i packed it back up in the box but i noticed the cord was warm.....any suggestions guys ?

But I do know my shocking lack of knowledge could get me burned!
At least you're not fried in a bad way.;)
That being said, sounds like your ballast has developed issues or something else that was sharing the breaker was off when you 1st tested but on this time.
A fridge, freezer, ac, heat, water heater or some such that draws a lot of power and cuts on and off automatically sharing the breaker could do it for sure.
And HIDs can draw several times their power when they first power up (there was a thread on that not too long ago), so if it was right below the threshold the first time, a lamp or just a little fluxuation could've knocked it over the edge.
Or the ballast could be badly contructed, shorting out, or some such.
Don't give up your good genes, though. The flouros can keep them going, until you get your flower room ready. Some folks even manage good buds with flouros. And this will also give you a chance to take some clones, before putting them into flower, if you haven't already.
Hopefully, someone with an electric mind will come along and give you some better facts about what is exactly going wrong. But you'll probably need to supply them with some even more detailed info.
Be safe and good luck!

man that sucks.
1. did you try the old bulb and get the same results?
2. your new bulb.....are you sure it is designed for the position you are trying to use it in...ie: base up / base down....sideways???
3. take your light and try in diff outlets.
if it does this with the new and old bulb....ballast replacement time appears as cause.

ty for all comments....i cant let this grow go to waste ...so if i have to ill make the best of it with floros and just buy something new in the near future.....harddon..when i tested the 400 w everything worked just fine...had the new bulb in it and everything...the old bulb was new as well but did have some plant growing useage on it but it was stuck in the fixture so i got it out and bought a new bulb and everything worked fine......i think this problem may be all those floros i have running on them right now....they werent up there when i tested the light b4 i started this grow so im just gonna take apart the vegg room as planned and just keep my fingers crossed.....and like said...if all else fails i still have my floros

Well sometimes a new bulb in an old ballast wont work.
Have you tried the old bulb again?
If even the old bulb throws the breaker with nothing else on it, might as well toss the ballast.
Of course when the Old bulb was ;stuck; how did you unstick it out of curiosity?

try running an extension cord to a different outlet. sounds like maybe the line you're currently on can't handle the light's amperage. check the breaker for the amperage and find one that's at least 15...30 is best and run a high capacity extension cord to it.

thanks Del....and for your questions Harddon....lol very damn carefully trust me i was sweating...what happened was the glass part of the bulb some how managed to sperate from the little metal peices that hold the glass in the crew part of the blub...i guess maybe when the blub was made i just got a screw up i dunno ...but the blub was new and everything but when u unscrewed it ...it would only unscrew so far then the metal would stop turning..so what i did very carefully ( AND I DONT ADVISE IT TO ANYONE ) but i applyed pressure at an angle to the blub very gently but yet aggressive enuff to get the metal to screw out with the glass......i dont recommed anyone do this though b.c you could be hurt or cut queit badly....and i admit it was a risk on my part.....to each his own but i knew the conciqinses and just kept that inmind and was as careful as i could to finish getting the bulb out without any injury at all,...once again if u ever have that problem dont try it unless your not willing or able to purchase a new system or whatever is needed . i was willing but couldnt afford it at the time so i was just careful with the bulb and the light pressure i applyed to make the blub come loose......once again harddon this was done in a very careful way so im sure its not my actions b.c ive had the light working since then...and with the new bulb that i have for it...

Check over all your wiring. If there is as much as one loose strand it could have made its way to the casing after your last test just from moving the cord around. GOOD LUCK! :D
