Hey, I dont want this thread to turn into a fight between people and stuff but it is something i kinda need to ask and see different opinions on the subject from people lookin at it from a different perspective, so here goes..

What do you think of smoking marijuana durin pregnancy?? My friend is 19 and 5 months pregnant... I used to deal to her but now i do jus to her housemates... She is still smokin pretty much every second day still..... What you think??

If I was a chick and I got pregnant, then I would stop smoking.. I would also advise anybody else that smoking while pregnant is probably a bad idea. :)

If you cant get her to stop taking weed, encourage her to at least cook with it or use a vaporizer instead of smoking.

This can be easily solved. I dont advice NO ONE to smoke ANYTHING whilst pregnant. If your a pot smoker then bake sum brownies or cookies. Still get the high just no fumes!

I don't know all the science behind it but smoking anything cannot be good for a baby, whatever goes into a pregnant womans body goes into the baby's body too. It may harm the baby or it may not, but it's not the kind of thing you gamble with.

Yeah, I don't think it's cool for her to be smoking. I know my friend's sister used to smoke when she was pregnant with his son. When he was born, there was no real noticeable damage, but when he was around 8 (?), he was very hyper and a little slow...I noticed this with another woman that I knew who had a child after smoking pot throughout her pregnancy. Her daughter is also hyper and not so bright.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but why take the chance? It's only for 9 months!!!

Basically, I think of it this way. Would you blow a hit right into your baby's face? No that would be stupid, and thats basically what ur doing when you are smoking weed or cigarettes while pregnant. Same thing goes for drinking alcohol. That baby is gonna be fucked up in one way or another.

I'm not a woman, but I could only imagine that a nice fattie would be exactly what I'd need after giving birth. Then, of course, you'd pass it to the OB/GYN and the midwife for a few hits. :)

I would also recommend brownies, or a Vaporizer. That said, every situation is differant. With one of my children, I had such sickness and discomfort that I think it helped to smoke occassionaly. It does help you to feel calm and sleep more comfortably, as well as help with naseau and appetite. Most of the views I have seen expressed here seem to be by men. It would be nice to see the opinions of some more ladies that have been pregnant. Best wishes to all, and a happy healthy baby!

I think anything that has to do with weed should be stopped when you're pregnant. I'd like to hear from some of the mom's on this. Lulu, where are ya?

Science isn't perfect, and noone can be sure. It's not about the "potential affects" to the baby as much it is the guilt that the mother will be feeling if something abnormal happens to the baby.

Every mother should stay the healthiest that they possibly can during the 9 months.

When my wife was pregnant we read a lot of books on child development and such. What we learned is fetus development is a super complex process. There's a lot that can go wrong and what seems minor can have major consequences later on. From what I read I wouldn't advise even eating or vaporizing. You don't smoke alchohol but that is known to be bad for a developing fetus. Remember, if it is affecting your brain its affecting the babies too.

My wife is pretty straight and doesn't smoke or anything but she quit doing everything else. No New Years champagne, no more Starbuck's (the hardest), no sushi(could have parasites), etc, etc. Personnally I though she went a bit overboard but she was only doing what she felt would be best for the baby. Did it really make a difference? Not sure, but what what I do know is that even though she popped out 7 weeks early our daughter is super healthy and has never had any problems at all. She's not even two but understands both English and Chinese, and knows all of the letters in the alphabet. I really don't know many kids her age to compare with but I'm told this is pretty good. Maybe she wouldn't have done so good if my wife had smoked, or eaten, pot during her pregnancy.

Bottom line, why take chances? It's only nine months anyway.

05-16-2005, 08:26 PM
Yup.

Even if we dont know if it does/doesn't damage your baby - why take the risk ? maybe be the first to find out.

There are many sacrifices to be made wen becoming pregnant, i think weed or any drug/intoxicant should be avoided, don't forget, what u take into your body, is probably going to then go into the babies body, do you want it born with a dopey retarded laugh?! (lol, im jus kiddin bout that bit)

But seriously, she needs to grow up fuckin quickly and open up her eyes up,

The stupid cow.How selfish, riskin a babys health (her own even!! MAD!) jus for the sake of getting high? REEEAAAALLy time to grow up, wise up, and develop a few braincells. (other than the ones that are in the babys head inside her)

One other larger point, not quite on the subject.

Lots in our community are working hard to someday legalize the herb, at least for medical purposes. To have a chance to suceed, we as a community have to act more responsibly, in all aspects of our lives. The govt makes us out to be uncontrolled addicted fiends, who will eventually be all smoking crack. The last thing we need is to be portrayed as people who would risk the health of our kids.

Just my 2 cents.

don't Do any DRUGS ...

whoever said that about making brownies, that won't help. People drink tons of alcahol during there pregancy, and they come out looking like mickey mouse. just don't do drugs, then smoke pot after she has the baby

at least it aint crack..............................right guys?

I think the point should be DON'T DO DRUGS WHILE PREGNANT !!
Smoking em , eating em , all the same really since what is in the mothers blood goes into the babies bloodstream.
By drugs I include crack, smack , acid , ketamine , ganja and booze + around 20,000 more which I am not even going to look up .

ganja dont pass the placentral barrier, nicotine does so tell her not to put any baccy in her spliffs. smokin int brilliant for your baby because it reduces the amount of oxygen getting to the developing child, this makes em a bit lighter when there born. still dint do me any harm me ma tells us.........

Thank God I am a man!

But I hand it to you ladies, that pain is something I do not want to go through. I guess women can handle pain better, my wife wants to go through it again but if it was me, one would be enough if I had to push a kid out of me.

On topic, people should never do anything that can harm someone else.

I can't imagine a mind altering drug could ever be good for a baby in the process of developing it's mind.

Do a search using the key words 'marijuana', 'jamaica','rastafari', 'pregnancy' and take a look at what you find. Just for your information. The problem with the information available in more developed countries is that the women studied did not use marijuana as their sole drug of choice. In the Caribbean most people, especially the Rastafari, use ONLY marijuana, hence studies carried out on Caribbean women might be a more accurate area to look for information on the effects of marijuana on pregnancy. From my experience as a Rastafari woman, marijuana does not cause birth defects. Marijuana has been used for centuries to treat severe nausea in pregnancy, it also stimulates the appetite and allows severely nauseated mothers to be able to gain the weight they need to gain during pregnancy. I sometimes wonder if some of the weed available in developed countries is as pure as you would think. Some of the symptoms I have read that are attributed to weed have not been our experience in the Caribbean. If the scientists are correct then most Rastafari children in the Caribbean would be brain damaged half wits with horrible deformities and behavioral problems but this is not our experience. Most of our children are calmer, more alert and generally have less disclipine problems than baldhead (non-rastafari) children. Some of our children have tested higher than average in many of the areas used to test children. I am not saying that marijuana will make children super-geniuses but neither does it create spaced out brain-deads like the stereotypical weed-smoking hippie type that Hollywood seems to like to potray in movies. How do you explain this based on the so-called scientific evidence?

I'm not one to dispense medical advice but I will add that my mom smoked throughout her pregnancy for me. I did not turn out with low birth weight (quite the contrary in fact) or any other abnormal birth defects. And I turned out to be of higher-than-average intelligence (not to be narcissistic or brag or anything, but I am regarded as quite intellectual by pretty much everybody I know).

Now that doesn't prove anything except that it doesn't fuck up 100% of all babies since it's just one example, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I smoke weed and cigs. I quit both during both of my pregnancies. Should have quit the cigs for good..but hey, someday I will. I always felt that what I want to do to MY body is my business...except when I am GROWING another human being. That kid has no choice but to accept what's put into mom's body. 9 months is no time at all...give it up for the kids health, for pete's sake!

Im pregnant now 17.4 weeks today i stopped as soon as i found out i was about 6 weeks smoking before i found out.I told the doctor he didnt think it was a big deal as he told me there is no proof of birth defects from pot its tobacco thats worse. It was hard as hell for me to give up and still is hard but why risk hurting the baby.I was the same with my first son but i was more like 12 weeks preg before i found out he is ok but i think its best to give up while pregnant or breastfeeding.

my mom has 6 kids, and smoked with all of them...My siblings and I are all quite intelligent and never had any problems. I didnt smoke with either of my pregnancies, but that was my choice. I doubt my children would be any different today had I toked a bowl or two during that time.
