buds very little potency and smell

Hi all,i grew a plant from seed all the way to bud.I never had no problems it was a strong well growing plant and produced plenty of large buds.I then left them to dry but no signs of potency or a distinctive smell.any ideas as to where I went wrong?

Either I have lost my sense of smell?...or most strains have lost their bud smell?

It might be because of old homemade seeds in my case?

But, potency is found in the harvest date. Early harvests is the big killer & drying and curing is where it comes together.
