Hi Guys,
Maria again. First I only wanted to upload a picture of my setup. So I started a Thread in the "Basic Growing" Area.
Meeting a lot of friendly people here in, leads to the decision to start a grow log.
First I want to say, this is my first grow. So please be gentle with a small girl like me :-D
By the way I do this without any support of some strong man ;-)
So here comes the setup:
Kinggreen Grow Tent 1,50x1,50x2,00m (should be around 5x5x7 )
EVSG Lumatek 400W/600W
Adjust a Wings Avenger Large with Spreader (this thing is huge :-D)
800ccbm outgoing air (running at 40%)
125ccbm active intake air
Some Ventilation
2 liter pots with Bio Bizz for Veging
18 liter pots with Bio Bizz Light Mix for flowering
9 x Dutch Dragon (fem.) from Paradise Seeds
1 x White Russian (fem.) from Serious Seeds
Fertilizer: Hesi Starter Set for Soil (using 75% of the Hesi Soil Scheme)
Digital PH Metre - I Use GHP PH Down for correcting
The first 4 Weeks under fluorescent tubes.
And a Picture:

Changing from fluorescent tubes to 400W MH to start the real veg state ;-)
297528
6 days later:
297530
I transplanted the girls into the larger pots - they needed bigger shoes ;-)
Took 2 clones of each Dutch Dragon and 4 Clones of the White Russian:

Sorry guys, so much work to do... just a small update. I will make a detail update in a few days. There are a lot of news.
I got new tools and gadgets... Really cool tools. For example I got a Humidity and Temp Logger with 5 Sensors which are connected to my PC ;-) Nerdy Girl... :-D
So here are just three pics:

I guess most of the stretch is done - they are now between 80 and 90 cm. Let's get but producing :-D

Lookin good as usual Maria. Temp and Humidity readings look good I believe because it doesn't show a big fluctuation.
What I want to know is how YOU are doing without smoking while they're growing? It was almost a couple weeks ago that you said you were going to wait until these ladies are done to take any medication.

Sometimes she still comes around :-(
6 - 7 weeks to go...
I really like my data logger.. while working seeing the temp and humidity is such a good feeling :-D
I make some tests with the sensors, one at the leaves, one at the top of the soil, one outside etc. :-D
I try different power stages of outgoing air.. I will post my recordings.
(The Logger is saving data from the sensors every 5 seconds - I know this is not necessary, but really cool to see :-D )
Looking good Maria! That is a really cool Data Logger, my inner "Nerd" is envious. Looks like things are rolling along nicely, great job.

Awesome. Looks like you got yourself a HOBO recorder or something similar. I use those for my research plants but I never thought to invest in one for my Cannabis grow. I use simple little digital thermometer/humidity meters that just display the past 24 hour range. But your system is great for really keeping track of where potentially stressful things may have happened. I may see if I can get my hands on one...you have now stimulated my inner nerd. And OMB's as well, apparently.

This DataLogger is from TFA Dostmann. I use it with 5 external sensor stations (which have small displays) - The Logger is connected to the PC via USB Dongle.
Cost around 140 Dollar.. I know bit expensive, but i love it ;-)
And I think the invest has paid out even now. With this small tool, i noticed an error in my analog time switch.
After 12h light, light turns off for half an hour and then came back on for half an hour and then 11 and a half hours dark.
I noticed this, because the temperature is 6 degrees celsius higher when the lights are on.
I switched to a digital time switch - which is working really exactly.
Without the logger i would have never found this out, because the hated extra half hour of light came really early in the morning.
I think this could have saved a lot of stress... My Babies don't like stress... :-D

Quick question:
I use a lumatek digital ballast 400W/600W, which has a super lumen option (+10%). I thought this could be used to increase lumen output of the lamp.
Now i read in a thread on another board, that this option should only be used after 2 or 3 runs, to balance the reduction of output lumen of the lamp.
Do u think using the super lumen option with new bulb could break it down ?
What do you think about switching the ballast to 400W for ripening in the last 10 to 14 days ? (which means.. by the End of Week 7)

GB I don't know the answer to your question about the bulb, but I wanted you to know that you inspired me to purchase a TFA - Dostmann Klima Data Logger. It's being shipped from Germany so it's taking forever, but my inner nerd is pretty excited. Day 23 was a pretty exciting time in my grow. Lots of things changing on a daily basis. No, mine is one step below the KlimaLogg Pro and it does not have extra sensor stations. I regret that since it's not really that much more money for the models with extra stations...But it will be fun to play with anyway. I might check to see if my model can be upgraded with additional sensors. As for the Hardware Output, what types of output devices are you thinking of connecting?
GrowBitch2013
01-24-2014, 11:33 PM
what types of output devices are you thinking of connecting?
Over the Open Collector Output u can control for example humidity.. In my case. I run my outgoing air (LTI) with a transformer (230V/150V/125V/80V). Running it at 125V, but when humidity increases over 60 % than running the LTI with 150V till humidity goes down. U know how I mean ?
Other example.. If humidity drops below 40% (Not in my case, just an example) u could set 40 % to the lower alarm and start a humidifier.
Principle with some extra relays u could build a whole climate control. Not only logging (which is really cool, too).

GB I'm curious about the inversely related spikes in temp and humidity about 3/4 of the way over (is there a way to label the x-axis?). Seems like an odd relationship between conditions at that point. Otherwise things look pretty good. Your temp.s are a bit on the cool side. I have the opposite problem in my flower room. In my grow room, I have several plants under a 400W MH, and for various reasons it is in the same temp range as yours here (16-20C). I notice that the plants are slow, overly delicate, and lose a lot of leaves, especially low down. They get limp and black along the edges. Now it may be that something else is responsible for that, but I am suspicious of my low temp range. It will be good to get some input from the experienced growers.
Chromophore
01-25-2014, 09:05 PM
I know there are many factors involved in yield, but the grower friend of mine who is looking over my shoulder on my current crop, estimates my yield will be 16-20 oz. You can maybe compare the sizes of our setups to get an idea. Maybe. ;)
GrowBitch2013
01-25-2014, 09:07 PM
@Chromophore
Of course u can label the axis.. I will do that the next time... The funny thing is u noticed my daily check in the data.. opening the tent leads to fall down the temp at the leafs, this comes with fall down of humidity at the leafs... On the other hand.. A lot of warm air is going to the soil level (The sensor is 2-3 cm over the soil level) which comes with an increase of humidity at this level... This is really awesome.. I learned so much...
Are u excited now to get this tool in your hands ? I bet u check the tracking of your order every day ;-) Wish you fast delivery.
GrowBitch2013
01-25-2014, 09:19 PM
Your temp.s are a bit on the cool side.
I plan to set up a second veg. room and take the outgoing air of the veg. box to the bloom box.. this should increase the temps.
I hate wasting energy by heating out energy through the window...
If it get's too cold by the daylight..
I rather would add a second 600W HPS than heating through the day...
Chromophore
01-25-2014, 09:24 PM
That's basically the way I have mine set up, which is why my bloom temps are a bit warm (22-30C). My veg room is cold because it's pulling unheated basement air, which is probably 12-15C. The 400W just isn't enough by itself. I'm rebuilding the whole operation this summer, and environmental control will be my guide.
tlranger
01-25-2014, 10:22 PM
Kinda like this thinking out loud, Think our veg room needs to be warmer than bloom room. Veg room will not care about heater flash, and the lights could be on 24/7, not most be but could be. Bloom at a little cooler temps and you can get pretty colors that way. Can you move air the other direction, put heat in veg room, you don't want the young girls to slow down at all.
Nice to have a tech nerd around!
Chromophore
01-25-2014, 10:30 PM
ranger that is how I am going to re-design things. I'm running 18/6 in the veg room so I'll push it to 24 and maybe that will help. When I rebuild I will put both rooms inside the same larger room, and each one is going to be sheetrocked and sealed. Then I can set up air and heat systems and be able to control things better. Right now the flower room pulls air from the veg room, which is actually in an adjacent room of my basement, and the air leaks in via spaces around central heating ductwork along the ceiling. The adjacent room where the veg is set up is actually my laundry room, and because of it's orientation in the house plan, receives little heat from the rest of the building. Definitely not ideal. But at the moment it's what I have to work with. Once theses two batches of flowers are done, I'm dismantling everything and re-building properly. When I move the current batch in veg to the flower room, I can shut down the MH in the veg room, so the flower room will be pulling cooler air. Also I may let the plants sit under the HPS for a couple of weeks to help put on some healthier growth.

01-25-2014, 10:43 PM
Can you move air the other direction, put heat in veg room, you don't want the young girls to slow down at all.
I think this is really the better strategy. My first plan could lead to serious problems in the summer... I think I must accept heating with 500W for around 6 hours at night in the winter..... Thank you ranger. I take this advise very serious..
Nice to have a tech nerd around!
Thank you... I turn a little bit red ;-)

I think some people get a little too overheated about that debate. There is always a trade-off when pruning or thinning any plant, between light penetration, vs light collection. Due to the inverse square law, the light hitting the upper leaves is far stronger than the light hitting lower down, so photosynthetic efficiency is greater in the upper fan leaves. That is a good argument for leaving the upper leaves alone. But a super dense canopy with overlapping fan leaves makes no sense to me. Certainly you can bend them, but they're not recveiving light with the proper incident angle that way. I think a reasonable balance can be struck. My problem is that once I start pruning, its hard to stop. It's OCD or something. I tried hard to never remove upper fan leaves unless they were yellow or damaged. I used weights and twine to hold the branches apart and that helped with the penetration issue without having to over-prune.
Chromophore
01-30-2014, 09:31 PM
And I confess that just a few days ago I went nuts and pruned a bunch of stuff, probably more than I should have. Some gardeners tend to be "pruners", and that probably describes me. I just have a hard time leaving them alone. I am constantly in need to interact with them in some way.

If you can't uncover enough by folding or tucking the leaves, do what you gotta do. I try to not take any fans, but if need be, they lose a few. I did it to mine and they turned out great. The key to that is do it slowly...don't get carried away. Only take a few at a time and compromise on one's you'd LIKE to take, but don't HAVE to take off.
I even tell them I'm sorry when I do it. ;)

Looks good to me GB. Nice work. I think you demonstrated a nice balance to your approach.

So should I do it this kind to all the plants ?????
@Chromophore: By the way - Did your Data Logger arrived yet ?
That does look crowded GB. I might consider doing some gentle thinning on all of them if I were you. You probably are seeing some Chlorosis on the under leaves? I thin my canopies to alleviate that problem myself. My mama plant is due for another "haircut" just for that reason.
Get out the clipper's GB...just be gentle.

OK OMB - I will do it tomorrow. Making a lot of Photos. Maybe they will help other newbies like me ;-)
In such situations - when I don't know doing something or not. I recognize that I am a newb.
(Maybe with good preparation - but still a newbie girl) I simply don't have comparison data.
And I don't like situations like that. But right now I am looking to a photo of day 25 and a photo of day 31
and how should I say - I am really happy everything runs like that :-D

Wanted to make a lot of Pics - But that was complicated - I had to take the ladies out of the tent.
And then there was no space to make photos. Sorry for that.
But I shot a few ones:

And the overview:

I am not sure if this was the right thing :-(
Hope everything will turn out well.
But the good message is. There is already a lot of bud producing in the field ;-)

They look beautiful GB! Great job, pat yourself on the back for the restraint and make elixer out of those leaves! :)
How can I make elixer out of those leafs, or something else ?

Hey girl! Been busy getting all my ducks in a row. Crystal can help with a ton of recipes! She's an herbalist who uses other medicinal herbs for healing & medicating in combination with all sorts of cannabis derived oils & elixers. I recently directed her to another forum that doesn't prohibit the mention of some of these herbs & actually has a sub-forum for them. They also have PMs (a private messaging system). Its a little more breeder oriented & less strict in many ways. I'm actually here to invite you over. MNS. I think Crystal said she googled mr nice guy to actually make it in. Not saying to abandon cann.com. I'd never do that. I'm actually a member of 5 forum boards & find they compliment each other & is a balanced way to broaden your horizons. I occasionally invite people to other forums when I think one would be of interest to them. So, come on over!
-- I applaud your efforts! Great pruning job. Not over done & definitely serves the purpose. I can see it was done with love. Yeah, mj is a robust plant. Often surprising first timers when she quickly fills the available space! I have some more bending , wireing & pruning to finish myself tonight! :)

The White Russian is really producing faster than the Dutch Dragon.
I Bet the Dutch Dragons will follow up the next weeks.
In my opinion there is a lot of budding. What do u think ?

Hope there are some Nerds out there to enjoyâ?¦
So letâ??s do some curve sketching ;-)
Point 1
I tried thinning on one of the dutch dragons. Sorry I called it defoliating in my post. Not sure if this was the right word.
U see the temp at the leaves fall down at point 1 ? Want to know why?
I was sitting nearly an hour in front of the girlscamp thinking about hurting them or not.
At least I did it to one.. It was sad. Had some bad sleep this night ;-) I waited one day, but she seemed to enjoy.
Point 2
Other members confirmed me, that it was kind of crowdy in the camp. And I could go on with some gentle thinning.
So I did it to all. This was Point 2
Point 3
OK and now over to Point 3. Damn this is funky. Now concentrate on the temps at soil level.
They increased around 5 degrees Celsius. This was without more extra heating.
I think more light is coming to the soil. So the soil gets warmer. Even holding this temps at night.
I know this project is on the cooler side, but itâ??s winter here.
And I hate wasting energy, while heating out of the window.
They enjoyed the warmer soil level so much, I decided to try and give them some extra heating even through the day.
They love it. My bad conscience about mother earth but I decided to set the temp to hold at 19 degrees at night
and 23 degrees by day (which means some extra heating from the filament heating.
If there is a next run â?? I will add a second 600 W HPS to get the extra thermal heat.
Everybody should prefer light heat than filament heating or others. Think about ;-)
Damn reading this text is kind of embarrassing. Maybe I was in kind of good mood while I wrote this :rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke:
