Hi all, (and apologies to the mediators, wasn't sure where to post my question exactly! Plus Chinese internet doesn't make ANYTHING easy!!! Please move to wherever you see fit!)

Feeling very lucky to be involved with a like minded and equally passionate gathering of people!

But on to more serious matters ...

I found wild plants and need a little help!

Okay, I live and work in China as an English teacher with my partner. I live in the south in a small school about 40 minutes walk outside of the town, and we were walking into town for dinner yesterday and came upon 4 wild plants just growing on the side of the road.

We are trying to determine wether it would be viable to take the plants and replant on our balcony (no one would see because we overlook a mountain and we are the only foreigners in town so not a large social life!) have photos of the plants, but because itâ??s December I canâ??t really tell if they are male/female/bisexual â?¦ So we really want to know if they are male/female/bisexual/hemp plants ...

Also we want to act on this ASAP because, as the school is still being built, there are a lot of workers around at the moment and we know for a fact they have been smoking â?¦ Have come back from class a few times and smelt that sweet sweet aroma with enormous feelings of envy! So we know that someone knows what they look like (and maybe these are the workers plants) and we donâ??t want to miss an opportunity! Weâ??ve been here 3 years and Iâ??m sure you can imagine what 3 years will do to someone when they love and appreciate the beauty of this plant.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated! And apologies for the very large post!! We are planning to go down tonight and further investigate under the cover of darkness, so as to avoid the suspicions of two foreigners paying very close attention to a bunch of plants on the side of the road!!

Thanks in advance!! (happy growing/smoking/cooking to all!!)

Aloha Lilly,

I'm no expert, but that looks like senescent Cannabis Ruderalis.
It also looks to be male.
But, again, I'm certainly no expert.

I'm sure that you know that possession is illegal there?
I see no "sparkle" so it's probably not worth a risk of imprisonment.

Just my 2 cents.
Best of luck,
Weezard

Hi Weezard, thanks for your input!

I am fully aware that imprisonment is highly likely, but the cultivation of hemp is also highly legal, as I mentioned, there is no-one else around, we are relatively confident that discovery is limited, although not impossible, we intend on being careful, whatever the result.

We grabbed some leaves dried them out and had a small smoke, and to our surprise we are happily floating ... I did some research into senescent Cannabis Ruderalis and would I be correct in saying, that although it is not the most sought after strain, it is indeed not hemp? And a buzz is possible? Because it's either I feel a lovely little high after a 3 year hiatus, or my mind is severe denial!!!

Thanks again!
Lillie

You are correct.
Ruderalis is squat and spindly.
And from that top photo, someone already snatched the terminal "bud"

The hemp plant is very tall and mostly stalk.
Grown for the longest possible fibers.

I'd rake the soil under that bush looking for seeds.
Wait for the appropriate time, and go guerrilla with it. :D
Then you'll have flowers.

Dunno why, but your little adventure had me smilin' all night. :)

Warm aloha to you.
