View Full Version : Nitrogen abundance in rdwc or just green and greasy?

I have a couple bag seed plants that are in late bloom and I just saw this chart on cannabis leaves and nutrient problems and noticed that my two bag seed plants resemble a nitrogen abundance problem. I have recently switched from dwc to rdwc and have 6 + 1 buckets and five plants in various stages of bloom. The other plants are ak-48 , lemon kush, and cotton candy, and they seem fine.
I guess my first question is Do you think there is a problem with my nutes? I use gh flora series with ro/di water with cal mag. I use the recommended amounts.
Second question since the affected plants are nearing harvest and the less developed named strains are fine, is there anything I can or should do to remedy this or let them be?

Also I am trying a perpetual grow and got a good deal on a rdwc setup, but now I'm not sure that I can do perpetual and rdwc since everything runs on the same water, so no flush and no transition period from veg to bloom nutes. How big of an issue is this? I've already taken some veg plants and dropped them into the full strength bloom nutes without any noticeable effects. But I've flushed in the past.

I've never done rdwc and frankly I don't understand why anyone would for small grows. The reservoir is probably more effective when used for very large grows because it prevents the grower from having to check the water supply and nute mix for each and every plant. The problem is when you have a nute problem or perhaps even disease, you can't isolate the affected plants because they're all on the same plumbing network. You'd have to create another small setup just to continue growing a sick plant, or remove it altogether. For small grows in DWC it's my opinion that the reservoir be avoided and just purchase separate air pumps for each bucket or one large pump and split the air up to each bucket with a manifold. You say that you have plants in various stages of bloom in rdwc and this might be a problem as some plants might require more nutes and others require less. Since they share the same water mix, how can you make nute changes for different stages of growth? You can't. If you had them in separate buckets, the changes would be easy. DWC by it's nature is better than soil and the growth when done right is fantastic. Using a reservoir is really more for growing the same or similar plants at the same stage of life. I wouldn't think you'd have much success with perpetual harvest for that reason. Your picture does appear to show a plant that is too dark green. Usually this plant, whatever its name or origin, doesn't get so dark green. You didn't mention what your ppm is so kind of hard to tell if your fert level is too high. Seems like most info says that you can run dwc just over 1000 ppm. Info on the web says that early growth in RDWC is about 200 ppm and goes up to about 6-700 or so. Perhaps with all the water movement there tends to be more oxygen added in rdwc. I guess that if you're plants looks dark green to you, then don't feed for a while and see what happens.
