Some of you may know already know me, but for those that don't, I am pretty active long time RUI forum member. I have been growing for a few years now, have had successful outdoor and indoor harvests. I am disabled army combat vet, and I run a legal non profit Co Op grow for a group of disabled veterans and a few of their wives. Anyways, I was asked by growrevolution to test out some new LEDS they have released onto the market. I am pretty excited to see the newest technology in growing, so jumped on board to test them out.



My first impression when they arrived is they look to be very well built, solid and not cheap looking. And they are VERY bright.

Oh yea, I am a fully organic grower. I make my own compost/casting teas, use black gold soil or vermifire depending on whats on sale as a base, then cut it with more perlite, castings, bone meal and blood meal and part reused soil. I use general organics 8 parts nutes as well, and aloe juice and b1 when transplanting/starting cuts.


I got my veg area set up now., got the 2 smaller panels covering about 4x2 area in the closet vegging, the other half the closet is a 4 foot 8 bulb t5 HO set up with my mothers. I have heard the leds to close makes them stack nodes to tight, so I have them about 2 feet off the canopy of seedlings, and about 18 inches off the top of the canopy of the breeders boutique veggers.

Since no thread is complete without some bud porn, figured I would share this :)

This here is my cherry pie, about to be harvested. She is in a 2 gallon pot, 1 week veg time. Her sisters were chopped at 7 weeks and they all gave 2+ ozs each, thinking 4 ozs of this one. She was the strongest of the bunch and is gonna be my head stash :) Smells of coffee and cherries.

Today is week 9ish, think its day 68 or 69 now. She is ready! I am gonna leave it in total darkness for 4 days for that last final push. Really wish I had let the others go the extra 2 weeks, but to late now. anyways, here's some porn!

took the 1000watter down and replaced it with the big led panel. Rolling the dice a bit on these leds but they seem very bright so here we go!

Quick little update on the seedlings. These are hemlock strains (hemlock is a grower/breeder from rui and a part of breeders boutique seed company Breeders Boutique (http://www.breedersboutique.com/site) ) off the list I posted, did 5 seeds each of each strain, only 1 didn't sprout. They are top quality genetics, anyone looking for great winners of every female, check them out. Great genes from great growers who want the best strains possible. I am running quite a few of their strains and testing some new ones for them as well. VERY impressed so far. Anyways, they seem to really be loving the led. Have been growing much quicker then under t5s.

I am going to be following this log very closely because I'm also a LED grower but I have yet to use a panel because I like having my light really close to my plants. Therefore I may consider panels after seeing what you experience.

Yea I have the flower light within 6--10 inches. My canopy isn't the most level this round since I have so many different strains growing. In the veg area I have it higher up because i want some stretch to occur. Do you have a link to your grow? I would like to see what ya got going on.

Since swapping to the leds I have been able to turn my 800cfm fan in the tent down to half speed and temps have been staying perfect at 76 degrees with a lot less fan noise. Heat is no longer the enemy!

All the plants got some compost tea last night. Gave the seedlings it at 50% strength, the rest got full strength doses. This will be the first time using a new additive by earth juice called "elements" my local grow shop knows me pretty well (owners my aunts husband) and they recommended it. For people using RO water its a really great product, its basically an organic source of trace minerals that are filtered out of RO water, namely Cal/MG/iron. I added 1 teaspoon to my tea, gonna see how it works. I go through Cal MG like candy because my water doesn't have it in it, so this should hopefully be a cheaper organic method to give readily available minerals. Seems like everyone I know that uses RO water to avoid chlorine/chlroramine/fluoride ends up having to fight Cal Mg deficiency to some degree. My cherry pie strain especially is Cal Mg hungry, I been having to feed it biweekly large high strength doses to keep the stems nice and green and not purple. One really nice thing about compost tea is its nearly impossible to burn with it. I regularly end up dripping some on the leaves when feeding it, and even got some full strength drips on the seedlings, 0 burn at all. and the plants love it!

Quick update. The seedlings are really liking the LED. Growing much quicker then the t5 seedlings did last round. Nodes are very tight to, even with the light 18 inches above canopy.

Cherry Pie harvested today. It was the start of week 11, and decided she was ready. She is simply gorgeous. sticky as hell, super dense, and crystally to the max. She smells of really sweet fruit and coffee. Thinking 3-4 ozs of her of some super dense grade a smoke.

heres the new set up for veg. Just a simple 2x4x5 tent, name brand although i think my off brand tent had a better design. got the bud boss 305 in the tent vegging. Temps are super easy to maintain, fan is set at lowest settings and room is not being cooled or heated by anything. plant level stays 77 and top of tent is 80 degrees.

plants are a bit stressed due to a move to a new house, but should bounce back quick!

plants are looking a bit less stressed out. I fed with some b1 and super thrive last night before the went to sleep, so think that has been helping. The little tent i am using for veg is a bit trickier to keep the temp the right level, seems like lights off is getting to be low 60s, and that's a tad to low for veg. I am gonna pick up a temp sensor fan controller at some point this week, just don't know when.

Got some tea starting tonight as well for the veggers.

Got some compost tea brewing still. Made it a bit weaker then usual, as I don't think the plants are quite ready for full strength. They are still looking stressed, but getting better by the day. Guess they really weren't happy with the move lol. A good number of the clones rooted now, my heating pads have been on the fritz so took longer then usual. anyways, heres some pics!

threw some of the plants that were in solo cups in 4 inch squares, and got some clones in the tent now as well under the LED. they are Starting to destress and looking perkier. Few more days and they will be back in the groove.

Yea its only disappointment has nothing to do with the lights. The seedlings REALLY didn't like the move. I rarely see plants stressed out, but these ones were definitely stressed. They are bouncing back, but it definitely stunted them a bit. They are still growing faster under the leds then the t5s though. They are looking perkier, but they need to get a full strenght dose of nutes and tea. Gonna give it 2 more days, then give them the nutes. Hopefully they will be destressed enough to actually use the nutes now. anyways, heres pics

Buying another tent today, its 4x3x8. Got a shelf for it to make it double chambered. Haven't decide long term which tent is which, gonna get it set up, lights hung, and all the seedlings into bigger pots. They are getting root bound, been in those 4 inch squares a bit to long. I trimmed the lower leaves that were damaged off, and fed some tea.

Got the new tent up and running finally. Got 2 of the leds in the new tent and got the t5 setup in the smaller tent. I got the clones of my new mothers picked out and into 2 gallon pots. I am planning a mainline on these with a nice long veg time. The seedlings well the majority anyway went into 1 gallon pots. I ran out though gotta get another dozen pots. They will stay in the one gallons until I can sex them. They were all rootbound pretty bad...i am expecting them to explode with all that extra soil. All in all things are progressing nicely and doing well. Hope all is well and everyone had a great thanksgiving

Hydro store had a sell going on for some smart pots, so picked up enough to transplant the remaining seedlings not already in 1 gallons into smart pots. The plants are finally looking healthy after the stress of the move to the new house. some lower leaves are not gonna recover, just gotta get in there and prune them, just haven't had a chance. I got the tent now filled, the seedlings are a little jammed in there, but they all fit. They will stay in the 1 gallons till they show sex.

In other news, I finally got a chance to sample some new tincture I made. 2 ozs of popcorn nugs ground up + a bottle of 151 in a dark spot for 3 weeks...my roommates and I all did a shot of it...within 10 minutes we were all beyond fucked up. can I say strong!!! if someone could overdose on marijuana it would be with alcohol tinture that's for sure. anyway, heres some pics!

- ps. it look's to me like some of your plant's have a call mag defect :) (you can buy all kind's of boost' of call mag :) you should look in to that, what kind of water do you use in your grow )
-one of my friends grow from new york said he was at and test some part of grow lights for a company from Germany. and he was able to go and Really kind of close to the plants with it. no they got burned leaves and violated I sounds both scary and good :) if you understand what I mean by that. but he actually got some harvest under the light. and he was impressed it was 600 watt bulb part 3watt

the leds i am using are by growevolution.com. They can be place inches from the plants. i have mine up about 10 inches to get the best coverage on the outer edges of the tent. The nodes under these leds are better then I Have seen on any other light source. SUUUUUPER tight nodes. Vertical growth is slow but its because the nodes are so tight. even better the under 1000 watt mh. I haven seen a yeild yet from straight leds. my last harvest though I flowered with 1000w hps for the first half the grow and these leds the other half. i got over 2 pounds.

i just moved a few weeks back and it really stressed the plants out. they were light deprived for 2 days, then moved in crates in a truck, then didn't get lights really over then set up properly for another 2 days. and then spent a week dialing my tents in and getting temps situated. So what your seeing is stress damage.

these seeds were donated to my collective by a breeder named hemlock from breeders boutique. (Breeders Boutique (http://www.breedersboutique.com/site/)) Clones cost next to nothing to make, (at most 10 bucks per 100) and clubs and patients buy up clones like candy. I get more donations from clones then i do for flowers. so to answer that question, i dont pay for seeds or clones. Because I am growing for a good cause (disabled veterans) many people and companies make donations and it all works out. All my gear has been supplied by the collective and outside people.
As far as 1-2 plants in a scrog, since I grow for many patients who dont all have the same needs, I try to always have at least 10 strains running. Realistically I have about 20-30 strains at any given time. I regularly test new breeds out and see how they turn out, but I have the core strains my patients and I love.

I went and grabbed one of my 1000 watters from my buddies whose storing them. I was gonna grab all 4 I have there, but hes using the other 3 and didn't wanna ruin his garden when I am not ready to flower yet anyway, so gotta go back in 4 weeks and grab the others. The plants are finally at a stage I don't feel disgusted putting pics of them up lol. They are loving the bigger pots and they have gotten some very nice batches of compost tea in the last 2 weeks, so looks like we are back on track. Plan is another month or so of veg. Probably gonna flip after the new year. I have been doing the math and I am thinking 16 plants per side of the tent, 4 gallon or maybe 5 gallon pots will be their final home. SOOOOOO kicking myself for selling off my 5 gallon pots before I moved, now gotta source some more. Thinking maybe friskier cat liter boxes or something I can repurpose. I decided to go with some pricer soil this time...started with vermiblend soil and added more perlite, 4 cups of myco per bag extra, and extra earthworm castings. Usually I use black gold soil which is half the cost of vermiblend, but the vermiblend is so light and airy, I have used it before and its amazing soil, just not the best price at 16 bucks per 1.5 cubic foot. Since I am doing a much longer veg then I normally would even consider doing, I decided its worth it to get the best soil I can afford. I am really hoping to have some 2-3 foot wide bushes, so lets hope they start exploding real soon!

so we have another 28 confirmed females and only 4 males. I am completely flabergasted...Hemlock and Breeders boutique got their fucking shit on time thats for damn sure. Outta 55 seeds planted...1 dud, 43 females and 4 males...I have NEVER had this kind of ratio before...I was expecting 60% females and the rest males. The rest are still unsexed, but about are all looking female...got the footballs formed just haven't shown hairs yet. I got the females transplanted today into 3.5 gallon buckets I got from the 98 cent store. All the clone type genetics (cherry pie/lemon larry/jack herer) had to go into one of my smaller tents to make room. Thinking its gonna be 32 plants total in the tent for flower. I topped most of them today as well. Fed with some b1 to aid transplant. Man its been a busy day, been in the garden all day.

In other news, I picked up a 4x8 tent today as well for free from a buddy as well as a 1000 watter setup and some seedling heat pads and some nutes I will never use, debating setting that one up to. I may wait till next run, I am already getting stretched thin caring for my current 3 tents. He just found out his wife is out at a resort with some other dude so hes really wanting me to take his plants for him...200 total...IDK if can handle that many more, but I may say fuck it and try anyway. A lot has happened that I havent had a chance to report. Got some down time so figured would give details. Outta 55 seeds from breeders boutique and the breeder hemlock,, I have had 6 males, and 1 dud. The rest were females. What a great ratio right ?! To be honest kinda threw a wrench as i wasn't expecting this many ladies, but got it all sorted out. Got the ladies mostly transplanted in 5 gallons. Got like 11 more to transplant, just gotta go buy more soil. I acquired a new parcel of land to grow at, so spent the day rota-tilling the soil, and rotor-tilled in 20 cubic feet of composted manure. Gonna shoot for 6-12 plants. gotta pick which ones, but they are gonna be vegged all winter. I am gonna top the fuck out of them, do tons of training. I want to put out 4 foot tall and many many topped bushes in ground june 1. Gonna shoot to get 5+ pounds per plant.



The 5x10 tent is nearly filled, and some of the ladies that have been in 5 gallons for 8 days now have like quadrupled in size. They were all incredibly rooted in the 1 gallons and were long overdue for transplanting. They are looking so nice and healthy now. I been feeding compost tea once a week, and they have been loving it. I am thinking 2 more weeks of veg, then its off to flip. Gonna be probably 20 plants in 5 gallons per side. I havent decided how full to stuff it. a 4x4 grid per side is the smart choice, but right now I have a 5x5 grid on one side. 25 plants per side though will be stuffed I thinking and will just invite mold and bugs and shit. But only 16 plants per side is gonna give me quite a bit of over flow that I don't have room for. decisions decisions!



All in all, I have a lot going on in my gardens, and about to set up my outdoor gardens, so we got a lot happening!







The 2x4 tent has the bud boss 305 LED panel in it. I have it STUFFED with teens in 1 gallons vegging. I am probably gonna to flower in the tent, just gotta eliminate some mites first. The temps in this tent are very hard to regulate, my fan is just to damn big for it. I have a 8 inch 900 CFM fan which drops the temp down to 60 in less then 5 minutes, so its been a nightmare trying to keep steady temps.



The 4x3 tent has the 2 smaller bud boss panels with some teens vegging into my new mothers. Gonna set up a frame inside this tent to hold the moms on bottom and clones on top, just haven't had a chance yet to do it.

So, I finally got around to hanging a second 1000 watter in the tent. Its just a basic cool tube setup till my friend is done using my nice hood. But, got it up and running, redid the fan setup a bit, and drumroll....swapped timers to 12/12. Today marks the start of flowering. You heard that right! Flower mode engaged! Sit down, strap in, and get ready for the show. heres a couple quick pics and a quick video. I have to get the cords run nicely, and gonna add an inline intake fan. but this is the basic setup now.

Speachless! I'm growing in a camper closet right now, so you know I'm jealous! (& I'm getting crowded out with just 10 plants)! I have a bigger outdoor grow every year, but still not even as many as you have indoors. I miss the farm. Back in the day, I had outdoor crops of 600+, in addition to a lg grow room, 2 grows a yr inside.

Yea I vegging still with leds, and I had hoped to flower in the large tent with leds, but I don't have enough panels to cover the whole area. The leds made the nodes suuuper tight and I'm sure would do great in a smaller area. I am gonna flower in a small tent with then soon, just am so damn busy

So...it would appear the bsb x WR x CB has a bit of a tendency to hermie out. Was inspecting the garden and all the females of it started showing balls to. Chopped them then made a very nice bouquet and gave it to the misses lol. I threw a couple mothers I had into the flower tent to fill the spots. I need to get in and spray azamaz again I am overdue. but so damn busy. anyways, heres some pics. The plants are about 3-4 tall about now, stretching still. starting to get some nice smells to theres a few of the Dream lotus x tangerine dreams that are starting to pick up a nice citrus aroma to. Its starting to get exciting!

When you think you've finally found that dream home...... DONT SIGN ANYTHING UNILL YOU TASTE THE WATER!!!! I've known so many people who DIDNT do that & some of them now have nasty water that's so bad it constantly burns out filters. So remember to check that water! A friend just a few miles from me has water so high in iron & sulphur that filters don't touch it, & here I am with the best spring water in the world about three miles from her. I am so blessed with perfect spring water (yep, I said spring), & rich, rich loamy soil. I hope you can find something as good (minus the bitch of a neighbor)! ;)

Today marks day 7 of flower, week 1 done. There are 4 plants at day 2. Things are looking great! I am brewing up a batch of tea right now to fed tomorrow. They got fed 4 days ago, but they are HUNGRY! Starting to see some preflowers. Starting to get excited! In other news, got my hood back from my buddy, just gotta get an adapter tomorrow to plug it into the ballast style I have now. Anyways, enough yacking pics!

IDK if you can tell or not, but the plants are getting about 4 foot tall now. Had an eletrican out today and he added 2 new 20 amp circuits and plugs to them. Gonna be able to turn all light bulbs on now correctly!

been hitting them hard with the compost tea and biobizz nutes, but they are eating it up!!! All the myco they been getting for 4 months and the nice roots are paying off now...been feeding double strength 0 burning...gonna push it a bit higher.

Been a while since I done a nice veggers/led update so i apologize, and heres a nice update!

The veggers/moms are doing great. SInce I replaced the t5s with the led they have shown a marked difference in growth...nodes are getting tighter again but they are still explodin with vertical growth. I decided to do some supercropping and topping, so all the plants that had already been topped last month got supercropped outwards to bush up, and the smaller plants not yet topped all got topped. The lemon larrys grow sooo slow compared to the others, but everytime we walk by the veg tent we can smell lemons of 2 little 10 inch tall lemon larries, so they are worth the extra time. The purple cracks are taking off, nice looking structure. Cant wait to see how they do outdoor this year!

The blue cheese is really living up to barneys farms reputation. She is VERY virbrant and explosive grower. I have to keep pulling clones off it so it doesnt take over the tent. Up to like 10 tops on her now...shes gonna be a BEAST outdoors.

Anyways, I planted a bunch of seeds for the outdoor crop. did 25 sin city power nap, 25 dream lotus x tangerine dream, 8 vortex x blue dream, 25 black sour bubble x casey band x querkle. Its gonna be a fun year!

He also explains why it works so well, mainly about the equal nute uptake by each cola. Very interesting & informative. I was almost there with my technique, & after seeing this, I tweeked it just a little to get what Nugbuckets has going. Check this out! You don't wanta miss it! ;) ;) ;)

Thanks man :) Yea the blue cheese i have is a very nice example of the cheese dominance. Its funky thats for sure! I have tried probably a dozen cuts of Blue cheese trying to find a good "blueberry muffin/pancake" type taste, and this one if probably the best version I have tried, but it lacks any blueberry taste or flavor.

The lemon larry is out of this world. Everyone who has smoked it reports its to die for. It REEEEEEEEEEKS like lemons both in veg and in flower. DENSE as fuck, donkey dick colas. loves being super cropped and trained. Its a clone only strain by elite genetics I think. I never seen anyone else with it though.

As far as life...I have none lol. The sad part is I have a 4x8 tent and a 4x3 tent that I am not taking pictures of lol. I spend at least 5 hours a day dealing with plants, and go through 30-50 gallons of water every day. I am buying 12 acres in oregon for this outdoor season to, so planning on running 2 gardens with 99 plants. It suits my life nicely, I live off disability mostly, and love gardening so this lifestyle works well for me.

I know how to mainline and have mad respect for nugbuckets. His ace of spades he mainlines look incredible, but no I have never done a real mainline. I top, and top usually 2-3 indoors, and probably 2 dozen times outdoors. I super crop topped plants spreading each side flat to make nice bushes. Most people use string or wire or something to tie and LST, and I used to, however I don't like having cords running everywhere and then if the cord snaps, the plant will return to shape. I usaully supercrop till I hear that nice little snap of the branch. It takes the plant a bit longer to recover, and I usually fed superthrive/b1 after supercropping. However, where it snaps it makes a very thick layer of stem, locks it into place, and makes the stems much thicker and sturdier. I also sometimes crimp, which is basically using a thumb nail and pressing into the stem at various lenghts and pushing in till u here the little pop. this is lower stress then supercropping, but still stresses them a bit. Makes the stems THICK though.

I do like the look of mainlining, but one thing I don't like is the amount of time it takes and the amount of canopy you must remove. In the same time to mainline a 6-10 headed plant I could have a monster. with mainline you train to remove budsites, I prefer to train to add budsites. Just my style :)

Everybody has worked out a system that works for them, so everybody grows differently, as it should be. I prune & sometime supercrop, sometimes just bend, very close to your method. I noticed how close we both came to mainlining, just without removing foliage/ smaller budsites. I decided to go full out mainline this time because of tiny space, no room for more than a 4"-6" clip on fan in the grow, & just a computer fan for exhaust, so I need all the help I can get with airflow (actually need the heat, night time lows have been hovering around 4ºF, back room only gets heat that migrates from the front). For outdoor grows, I also have this eastcoast humidity to deal with & need a little boost in airflow to prevent mold, so the 'open headed' part of the pruning is beneficial to me. (I keep falling back to old fashion nurseryman terms!) No matter what method someone would use, things still need tweeking to customize for for their area. Diversity... a good thing! :)

I do like the look of mainlining, but one thing I don't like is the amount of time it takes and the amount of canopy you must remove. In the same time to mainline a 6-10 headed plant I could have a monster. with mainline you train to remove budsites, I prefer to train to add budsites. Just my style :)

I appreciate you and catbuds mentioning mainlining and Nugbuckets! After I read the posts mentioning it, I read his whole how-to page. I don't have the space to do something that large at the moment but it makes me VERY eager to try something like that. While it looks like it is training to remove budsites, it looks like you are creating an array of very large, dense, strong-stemmed main colas. Just looks fun to try for me!

And papapayne, very sorry to hear about your security scare. Wish you luck with everything and I hope your plants are able to thrive because they look so good now.

so looks like we are off red alert...Someone used my pictures to attempt to build a case against me, pretty sure i narrowed it down to the snake, but my lawyer will soon be able to tell me whose name is on the search warrant as a the affidavit witness so soon will know who cant be trusted. Cops came to my house and went thru all my paperwork and my gardens and such. Was very very lucky as my plant count is much higher then 99 plants...but I have all my ducks in a row at the state level and it was obvious to the cops I was following the guidelines, if not the letter of the law. I was issued a stern warning to keep my pzperwork in order and keep saving my patients receipets from when the buy soil/nutes/ pay the electric bill etc and a stern warning that I am risking a lot by my current plant counts. I have taken the 4x3 tent done and took nearly 400 clones to the club and vendored them. I probably didnt need to do that, but I am now at exactly 99 plants + some seedlings. So we still on alert, so i will just be posting pics of the flower tent. Hopefully though out of the woods.

What sweet relief! Its a shame about the clones though, but in a way, for now you get a double bonus; the rush you get from being 'cleared' by the cops, & a little bit of time for yourself so you can enjoy that rush. Dont have to tell you to be careful, do I. I have a friend on another forum who just got raided. 7 plants & two clones, & they're threatening TIME. Just 7 little plants. He's such a good person who always thinks of others & they're raking him through the coals & ruining his reputation, basically treating him like shit. Hurts my heart to see bad things happen to good people. I'm glad 'they' came & got it over with & now you're in the clear (but being watched, I'm sure). So I can officially thake you off my 'worry list!' My friend is in Pa & I'm in Md. Both have tough laws. The big difference is, Md rarely give the max time, but Pa does. I would like to be there for him on his court day & give him a hug before trial. I think some of us living close to him from the other forum (or all the forums, actually) should get together & be at the trial for him. That may even get the judges attention! Think I'll hop over to the other forum now & PM the friends we have in common & see if I can organize something!

That is one really great thing, brothers are brothers even after we take the uniform off so I have truly been blessed with some amazing guys in my corner who go to bat for me. Photobucket is a pain in the ass to use to be honest, however, they are one of the few companies who still requires a warrant to grant information. Microsoft skydrive is even better with their privacy and will even notify you if a warrant was served. but its a even bigger pain in the ass putting up more then 2-3 pics. I like to be pic heavy so it doesnt work.

If only scratch n sniff! they are getting smelly thats for damn sure!

So my lawyer finally got the name of the person listed as the material witness to get the search warrant to come to my gardens. It was exactly who I expected it was. One of my non military patients card expired a few months back, and so I told him if he wanted to stay apart of the collective he must renew his script. He donated some soil to this current tent grow. I told him I would even pay half his doctors fee. Think they are charging 45 now at the clinic, so its not even like its much money. So anyways, he called me a few weeks back and wanted to get some medicine and find out how the crop is doing. I asked if he had gotten his script renewed...long pause...I ask again...he finally says no. I say you know how this works, no script and I cant give you bud, I work very hard to keep my ducks in a row so, that I can be as open about my work as I am. He starts getting huffy puffy and I said look man, I even offered to pay half, lets go right now and get your card and then we have no problems. He refused. So I said sorry bro, no script no bud no exceptions. If you cannot respect that and spend 20 bucks to be legal, then you to and I have no reason to even be involved. Obviously he got very butt hurt and like a little girl..he went to the police, showed them my grow logs. All my collective members follow on Rollitup.org as part of them being involved and seeing the whole process. I know this is unusual but it means a lot to both them and me to be able to all see the plants grow and develop. Its much more fun to smoke something you saw grow up. At least to me.

Yea he fucked with the wrong group of people...you dont come between a group of combat veteran rangers and try to get one of their brothers in trouble and try to get their med supply messed with. Obviously not gonna go into details, but he learned his lesson. It was quite humorous to, you could tell right when I was explaining myself to the cops it kinda clicked into they head what I am about and I think they realized they were sent on a private venditta search against someone helping the military community. They honestly were really professional, which if you have ever had to be in this situation, is a major plus. I have had my gardens searched before, but last time my exwife and I were in zip ties on the deck outside my house for a few hours while they tore my house apart and we treated like criminals.

Here is a nice little video for everyone watching out there. We are at day 20, things are looking great. I fed some biobizz nutes again, they are really eating it up. I am starting to see the heavy feeders in the heavy feeders in the group. The fubar and the blue cheese and the vornick and the Jamaican dream are really wanting the nutes. The fubar is looking a bit yellow so gave it some double strength nutes. All in all, very happy with the way the tent is progressing. anyway, take a seat grab some popcorn, lit a blunt and enjoy the show!

Yea I been doing the whole grow scene nearly a decade now, and my grandfather raised me for a while on a huge farm that fed a good portion of the county in oregon so I definitely was raised up to have a green thumb. To be honest, greenhouse are my real passion/skill set... so yall just wait till you see what I do under the sun :)

This round is going much better then expected, especially since this flower tent is all new and am adjusting things as we go. A big part of it though is having the right genetics, the strains I got from breeders boutique and the grower hemlock from RUI are some of the best genetics I have laid eyes on. A strong plant wants to flower, and wants to be healthy, and wants to get big and dense, all you gotta do is remove the obstacles and she will reward you. No matter how much research you do, I have yet to see even one bad experience from breeders boutique seeds, and 90% the people I see run them are customers for life. I know I will never spend another dollar on one more clone or seed unless its from BB. Another key I found to growing is growing as close to nature as possible. You dont need to run 24/0 lighting, or spend 500 dollars per cycle on expensive name brand nutes and snake oils. Once I stopped buying into the commercial ideas behind growing cannabis, I saw huge healthy plants that didnt cycle between nute burn/ph burn/nute hungry etc.

I actually dont mainline. Its a great idea, and it makes some very sexy colas and plants, Its just not how I like to grow. I prefer to train to add more budsites, not to train to remove budsites. I top early, then supercrop the 2 tops down, after it sends usually 5-10 new heads and are growing nice, I top those heads. Depending on veg time will determine how many times I do this. This cycle was a bit more rushed, so most the plants flowering now were just topped a few times.

also, since I am doing a large seed run with unknown phenotypes I didnt do much training, as i want to see how each plant grows/nodes up and then decide my mothers based on that, and then after that I will push the plants to the limits.

-- I'm bringing a friend over from his grow thread. He's a noobe & his plants are purpling. I explained why, & him & another friend had questions about cloning from a female in bud. I told him it they can be much slower & often not take. But I can't get a handle on posting pics from photobucket AT ALL & I think your pics & post can be a great learning guide for these guys. I have no problem mentoring :) I learned a lot from better growers then me, and it was the single biggest help to my skills as a grower. I still ask opinions from more skilled growers then me, its something that never goes outta style :) I dont like taking clones from flowering plants, and usually consider it luck when they root. The trick is definitely take them as quick into flower as possible, the further in you go the less likely the will root and the longer it takes. I prefer to reveg, and if theses clones dont root, I will reveg the mothers I took them from. I am hoping they root though, would like them to have a lot of time to reveg and get big for outdoor season.

I will post more individual plant shots tomorrow, knee was aching from moving them back and forth. (i watered yesterday so pots are a bit heavy)

It was next to impossible to capture the purples with my crappy camera, but the black sour bubble x casey x sour cherry is amazingly purple. the temps in my tent are VERY low, at night they drop to 63 and lights on is barely 75 so really expecting some very nice color shots soon.

Strange, I was researching colors yesterday, saw a lot that talked about genetics, and also DNA engineering... Is purple pot gmo? The articles I read seemed to be sketchy with details.

That's what I hope too, but I saw conflicting articles, there seems to be a gene that is triggered by temps as cat said, only the origins of that gene are a little murky with articles saying it's completely natural from Afghani strains I think and others saying it was engineered outside the US.... You never really know the truth...the fact that the purple strains are open pollinated obviously weigh in favor of a natural gene though.... I'm just too curious for my own good sometimes...

Ah... there is a lot of conflict, but genetics make pretty colored hairs with matching caylaxs. Sure there's some in nature, but its bumped up through selective breeding. The afghanies? They ARE genetically pre disposed to turn purple as they mature & the nights chill. Lots of indica dominants have this characteristic. You see it in the leaves & calyx. Even thought they are predisposed to do this, its still an indicator of ripening & maturity & cool nights are the triggers. Won't go into it here on Pappas thread, but a discussion in landraces & their history would answer a lot of questions. I have a friend on another forum that would blow your socks off on this subject. Follow me to my thread & I'll tell you about him.

God, here I go with the science again. Forgive me. The purple is not the result of GMO, though that doesn't mean someone hasn't tried engineering. That trait has been described for a very long time, especially in strains from colder climates, ie Indicas. Purple in leaves comes from a class of pigments called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins do not participate in photosyntheses like Chlorophyll. They are primarily used by the plant to absorb harmful or useless wavelengths of light. Typically we don't see them because they are found in relatively small quantities, and the coloring from Chlorophylls swamps out their presence. But under certain types of stress, like nutrient or water deficiency, they may appear, because chlorophylls are being exhausted, usually to provide a source of Nitrogen and Magnesium. This is why leaves of hardwoods change color in the fall. The greens disappear as light and water fade, and you're left with purples, reds and yellows from all the "accessory" pigments, like anthocyanins and carotenoids. Anthocyanins belong to a larger class of biomolecules called flavonoids, which are powerful defense compounds. They protect the plant from oxidative stresses and UV damage. They are a good thing, and there is no need to engineer them in, they're already there. They just appear more frequently in strains and/or conditions where certain stresses are occurring. Frankly I'm concerned because my plants are entering week 8 of flowering and they're still all bright green!

Correct, purple comes from both strains and temps. For instance, I used to run purple gorilla indoor/outdoors. It turn OMG purple reguardless of temps. Both leaves and the actual bud caylaxes. Now on the other hand, my jack herer will turn purple if night temps are in the 60s. Generally speaking people breed to get colors. I used to run a landrace sative called kiwi. It had no joke, pink hairs and pink buds. no white hairs. they were pink, and when plant was done they turned deep red. Was a very pretty strain, but it took 13 weeks to flower and wasn't on par yield wize. I do like purple strains, and people do go nuts to get purple bud, but usually the more purple it is the less it yields or the less potency it has. I have yet to see a high yield color changer that has good potency. 2/3 is the best you usually get lol. The kings kush I ran outdoor was probably the closest I got, 50 gallon trash can netted me 6 pounds of dense sticky maple syrup flavored purple buds. 6 pounds is a good amount, but similar sized plants gave my 8 pounds.



Now then, as for my outdoor this year. Picture 2-3 10 x 20 carport greenhouses line up together, 12 plants per greenhouse planted in 4x4x4 holes. my main greenhouse plants are already in 2 gallons topped 10+ times supercroped trained etc and 2 footers....so ya buddy, strap into them seats, its gonna be a fun ride! I am prob gonna run my blue cheese and jamiacan dreams outside no greenhouse (READ: SUPER MASSIVE). They are super quick flower times so they should be done before the frost hits. i am expecting 150+ pound this year outdoor. LEts all cross our fingers !

I haven't fed them for 10 days now. That's why I'm surprised they're still so green. Just based on what others have said I expected them to start showing signs of deficiency. As I have never grown before, I'm simply following what most here have advised which is to stop feeding a couple of weeks before harvest. The reasons for this still puzzle me a bit, but I'm trusting the other more experienced growers.

It's interesting to note the type of lighting appears to have an affect on the chlorosis process. My T5 plants yellowed early, the HPS one's didn't until 6+ weeks in.
Same strain, same age, same nutes....but WAY earlier for the T5's.

One other reason many people stop nutes way to early to is because they are running synthetic nutes/chemical nutes which leave a nasty taste in the plant which they have to flush that out. IDK if you can tell from my tone, but I much prefer organics. I used to use the typical hydro line up shoved down the cannabis community and spent hundreds per cycle on snake oils and bud hardeners and flavor enhancers and overdrive all that shit, and after switching to super soil and compost tea and I will never go back. The smell and taste and health of the plant cannot even be compared. Most strains respond VERY well to organics, and once you get it figured out, is very sustainable especially if you have a back yard to compost in. Yo do have to change your understanding of how things work if you want to special tailor your supersoil. I started out using TGAs super soil recipe, and have gradually changed things to make it work better for me.

Ah, yes I remember catbuds telling me the same thing. I used Foxfarm nutes exclusively. I'm not clear on whether these fall into the "synthetic" or "organic" classification, though most people seem to consider them organic. I'm still feeding my flowering plants molasses, and that does supply Iron and Magnesium in addition to the sugars. Catbuds told me that with the Foxfarm nutes flushing really wasn't necessary but that I should gradually cut back on all the added fertilizers as harvest time approaches.

I can tell you hands down with a certainty chemical nutes vs organic living soil fed compost tea MAJORLY changes the taste and flavor and smell. If you look at the top growers hitting 25+ % thc and the legit growers making medicine (read: Not a commerical grow with profit being the bottom line) the majority of them are using super soil and feeding compost tea. Most the clubs wont ever put hydro grown bud as the true "top shelf" bud. Don't get me wrong, you can and people do grow great knockout fire bud hydro and with synthetics and when flushed right it tastes good.

To be honest, you should start making the soil now. Organic soil needs a little bit longer to break down and "cook". A MUST READ is TGA subcools guide to super soil. He has it in hightimes and all over the internet. Its the definitive hands down best soil to make for beginners and is very clear and concise. If you cant find it I can get you a link. And I am happy to answer any questions :)

Foxfarms is mostly a chemical type nute especially all the extra additives that their line up they has. Its a great product though and is used with great success by many growers. With organic living soil you feed the soil biology not the plant. That's the main difference, at least to me. So like I make 2 batches of compost tea a week. one for flower and one for both veg and flower. Both batches get earthworm castings, molasses, catalyst by earth juice, and depending on which batch making, either fossilized bat or fruit bat guano, and either fish meal or kelp meal this is then aerated 48 hours with water pumps. It costs about 40 bucks to get the bucket and pumps and like 100-150 bucks to get the supplies to actually make compost tea, but that same 150 bucks invested has lasted me 3 flower cycles (big plant counts to, each plant gets a gallon of tea and 9 months worth of veg time now.

One might also say imagine the production it would have done if it had all the available resources. part of it honestly is know the strain your running and know how to read plants. Usually it takes a good 2 runs of the same cutting before you really know the plant well and can push it to the max. One thing I have done and do usually that IDK if its a myth or not, I have heard it for ages as I am sure you have to, but at the VERY end of the cycle, I leave the lights off for 3 days before I chop and stop watering those last days as well. The claim is 3 days of darkness is just the right amount of shock at the end to get the "dying push" so to speak. Also if you dont water before u chop less likely to mold when drying.

lol no no not the same plants for 9 months, just been using the same group of compost tea materials for 9 months. I still have 1/2 the bag of earth worm castings and maybe 1/4 each of bat shit. The catalyst and molasses go quicker, but those are cheap to buy.

thanks man. Its honestly just a lot of reading. I spent (D) untold hours researching strains, growth methods, training techniques, looking at other peoples grows, trying things out for myself, etc. I have composted hundreds of plants in my time. Hell, I chopped down some 8 foot plants before after discovering how much mold liked that phenotype. I am hardly a softie, but I tell you what, taking an ax to some massive marijuana bush made me a bit sad. If ya'll could see my first grow lol. I started with CFLS in a jenky plywood box I make under my iguana cage in a 350 square foot apartment with 3 people living in it lol.

Had to do some quick mental math, not my strongest suit, but from seed going to say that some of the northern cali(Humboldt) grow went 8-81/2 months. Nice big plants.

yea I had a plant outside in my back yard that when you would turn the bathroom light on some areas of the plant would get some light on it. Everywhere the light hit hermied.

The only hermie I have had wasnt even a true hermie. I let the cherry pie go over 11 weeks and it pushed like 1-2 dicks. That is pretty common with most great genetic strains, the plant wants to get knocked up so bad it eventually will push male flowers. With my cherry pie I try to let it go until i see the dicks and then I know shes ready to come down.

jack herer- this plant used to shine...but compared to hemlocks genetics...its a lot less impressive...it gets RESIN and crystals to the max- but man what a size difference

yea its even more purple in person...my camera is like 6 years old and dying.


the vornick that hermied is on my patio. I pulled like 3-7 dicks off 2 colas and havent seen any new ones yet. The JD is getting hella close, like maybe a week more and its ready. the vornick needs another 2 prob

Too bad about your camera. I have a GREAT Nikon, but as far as color, my cell phone can match it. Never thought I'd see the day, but you really can take quality shots with some of these phones. I have photobucket. No problem up loading to my pb album from the ph. But when I try to post pic to any forum, photobucket tells me to go to my pc. Since you have a pc, maybe it would be worth your while to get an android phone? The samsung galaxys have excellent photo optics & color balance. It takes less time to upload to photobucket from your phone than it does to get your camera back into the camera bag. Modern conveniences, huh? (This is coming from someone with an associate degree in pho & 20 yrs pro experience!) This ph makes me lazy!

Yea I actually have a android tablet but its cam is shitty at 7megapixels. I have a Droid phone to its cam is bad to lol.


Yea I am excited to see this harvest. Its looking like I am on track for a great yield.
