Hey guys,
This is not my first grow but it is my first DWC stealth grow lol so I figured why not post my little experiment on here. I just got the little sprouts put in and everything is up and running. I have a few pics of the cabinet but I'll be posting more as soon as things start moving along. Any advice, opinions or tips are welcome! Thanks for checking it out.295763295764

Day two, still going strong. I have two more I haven't planted because of space but they are still growing straight up out of the rock wool...any ideas of what I should do with them? Was thinking of building one of those PC stealth boxes...just for something to do this weekend haha. 295799

Now that the sprouts are a little stronger I've switched out the lighting. It was running a bit hot in the stealth cab but since the light switch I'm at 72 degrees with about 42 humidity and I'm already seeing some of the root structure reach down to the water. Gonna let them hang out til the weekend and switch up the nutes a bit. Sorry for no pics today...phone-less for awhile but as soon as I get a new one I'll post more pictures of the changes. Thanks guys! Happy Halloween.

Well it's been about a week and all is looking fairly well in the stealth cab. I'm thinking about getting another light or two in there at some point this weekend and also replacing water and nutrients. Bit of purple on the underside of one seedling, any suggestions? I've heard a few different reasons for this happening but I'm honestly not super worried about it at this point. Any who, here's a picture for y'all and happy Halloween! 295916

Yeah man, I've built a couple in the past too. But this one I really put a lot of time and effort into. Thinking about making another one that is a bit bigger for flowering (since my tent is just so big and bulky and such an eye sore) lol. Thanks for the compliment! happy growing!

The little ones are growing up so fast:S2: going shopping tomorrow to pick up the last of the things I WANT, not need....but we all know how that goes :P295967295968 Has anyone used the 20w LED bulbs from Walmart? just wanting to experiment with them but not if it's just a waste of time lol. I picked up some 40 watt 2600 lumens 2700k yesterday to replace my 23 watt bulbs. They are made by Sylvania and got them at the home improvement store. Around $16 each. Your beans looking great. Later

Okay thanks for the response! I was actually just looking at something similar but was waiting for some feedback on here before I spend damn near 20 bucks on a light bulb. I need some Y-brackets as well so I'll probably end up getting them at the general store tomorrow. Can't wait to see some pictures of your little ones man! Later.

They are no where near yours. I think they get enough N when I first started because of the pH being high or because I didn't wash the Hydroton pebbles with pH right water,I'll leave them on until they fall off and they will be a constant reminder to CHECK YOUR H20!!! Dark cycle right now. will shoot some pics after 5 for ya'll to critique and analyze. Later

I can tell you one thing about my quad spectrum LED grow light though it doesn't create enough heat! My house heater doesn't kick on till it hits 65F. Also reflective material is a definite must when it comes to LED growing, just some things to consider if you do decide to switch. If you have any other questions I'll be glad to answer them.

hehehe..

ive been researching LED grow lighting for the past few months, and all the information is so convoluted.
I have yet to see anything grown worth of dropping hard cash, on expensive toys.
skip LED.

checkout sungodlights

for LED's i would say unless its designed for growing weed! a typical LED light is no diffferent than any other current light on the market.
designed for growing weed:
Blackstar LED
Blackstar Chrome
California Lightworks
BUDmaster
Blackdog

lowend models barely covers a 2x2 for 400$ smackers, so a 2700k LED, is no different than a 2700k cfl

LED lighting is all about the spectrums of light that are not visable to the human eye. which the plants use. not just RED & BLUE

jsengbusch88
11-06-2013, 06:32 PM
Yeah, one of my old co-workers was using LED and ended bringing me some pictures....I still don't know what he was doing wrong but the plants under the LED just looked plain funky..(like they weren't getting enough light or something:p) lol. I just so happen to have pictures of my crop which I was using HPS at the time and I guess those photos were enough to convince him to switch. Sold him two ballasts, and some bulbs later that week lol. For now in such a small space the cfls are working pretty much perfect so I'm not going to mess with nothin! lol anywho, here's some pics for y'all and happy growing!

Look at those little ladies go! Very nice. I used a few CFL's for a few day's while I was ironing out my ventilation issues and they worked great. The mother responded well with new shoot's
in just those three day's.
I went back to my 4 foot 4 bulb T5HO when my clones rooted, just because I needed more room and didn't want to buy more of the CFL's when I had the T5.
Looks like the CFL's are doing you right and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again because they really seem to work.

Yeeaaahhhh buddy, these gals are thriving pretty well at this point. Friday is clean up day and normal strength nutes! I've been running half so far, which really makes a huge difference at this stage. I'm excited to see what these ladies are really capable of the next few weeks.

I might if I haven't built a bigger cab for flowering. I don't really want to use the CFL's though because I have my HPS, just playing the waiting game for now. I'm still determined to make a PC stealth box, probably just for clones or sell it to someone around town lol

Your ladies are looking fine these days. What are your roots looking like? I was so surprised yesterday. I had changed the res on Friday and added the 2nd weeks nutes and no white roots. Pulled the net pot yesterday and dang three white roots about 6 inches long. The right side has not done as well, but on the left side I did spy one root coming out. Need to make sure the level in the res stays at a good level. Toke on big dog :stoned:

The one with lots of roots is starting to get some really dark blue stems, is this because of the nutrient change, airflow, temp? any suggestions? I've been pushing the fan leaves down once a day to stress them slightly, that's why they look droopy. Otherwise they are usually stretching up toward the light.

Should I be concerned yet? lol

jsengbusch88
11-12-2013, 03:42 AM
Well the bigger one is taking a turn for the worse, very blue and droopy. The littler gals leaves bounced back up as usual, but I fear its only a matter of time before she follows her big sisters behavior lol I haven't given up though! I just flushed them out switched them back to the other nutes they were doing so well with...so I'm hoping they will bounce back within the next few hours. Any advice is surely welcome at this point

Happy Growing Y'all:thumbsup:

Damn bro....hope it bounces back!
I'm new, but I have done a BUNCH of reading and lurking. I just wonder if people go overboard with all the 'nutes and coddling of these plants. The original mother of mine was basically left on it's own besides water and flourished to flower.
My clones and Mother now only get water and are doing great. While this is only my first real grow, it's pretty obvious everything is very healthy.
Hmmmm......When I take my next four clones on the 26th I will do an experiment. Once rooted I will use 'nutes on two of them, and none on the other two and see how it shakes out in the Veg stage.
Then when I flower them I will do the same with Flowering Nutes on the two that got Veg 'nutes.
If nothing else it will be interesting.

jsengbusch88
11-12-2013, 06:21 PM
Nice man, that will be interesting.

The girls bounced back and are doing fine, suffered a little bit of nutrient burn. I've never used that FoxFarm Hydro nutrient before and it always seems like trial and error with FoxFarm nutes anyway.

They should be fine for another few weeks then I may try the other nutes again. This stealth cab is my experiment as well so I'm not too concerned about the outcome. Just want to maintain a decent grow start to finish.

I had read alot about the FF nutes and a lot of the others. I decided to use Advanced Nutrients because of the calculator on their website to help with measurements and I found a great deal on eBay for everything I needed except for VooDoo Juice. I picked up some of that local, so I was set on that end. Yes it is a little more pricey but those small bottles will last me a long time. I would put a link in here for the website, but I don't know if it is allowed. I also found a website for troubleshooting your plant problems. Toke on Big Dog:stoned:

Hey! Coming along pretty good! My first experience with hydro was BAD! Old eb&flo early 80's. Thing sprung a leak, flooded the attic which dripped down into the living room & shorted out the TV! Nobody comes between me & my TV, so I kicked it out the window, plants & all. Repair cost would have been less if I'd at least opened the window first! Ha! Have a better grip on my temper now a days! My boyfriend was pissed since he'd bought it for me. Said I was worse than his drinking buddies. I'd have to agree with that since I'd kicked most of their asses. So no more whiskey for me! Ahh... the bad ole days.....

Looking good man! Nice healthy little ladies. I just got back from vacation and my babies have been suffering from cold! I wasn't setup for the temp swing and they have been down to 54 degree's....and the leaves have yellowing and brown spots. Aaaaauuuuuugh!
Working on it right now, but the buds are looking good.
Nice job on yours, I have to "flip flop" the 12 hrs of light with mine to help with temps at night.

That's rough OMB, I know the feeling though!

Temps are down to 10 and below here at night lately, so I get home from work and make sure to make any adjustments before bed. I'm taking a vacation end of this week too
but I wont be away from my house that much. It's more or less a vacation from my personal hell....which is also known as my work lol.

Cat that sounds hilarious to be honest! :S2: Although I'm sure your boyfriend didn't think so! I've honestly ever grown cannabis in soil once! and that was my very first grow. Threw some seeds into a pot of soil and set it by my window, I'll be damned if it didn't grow about a foot tall....so me being brand new to this FREAKED out lol cut that little bastard down before any neighbors noticed I had a pot plant sitting in my window lol. I enjoy the DWC now because I can leave for days and they will maintain just fine...oh and the stealth cab is a nice step up from my window pane too lol

Your space is too small. Looks nice otherwise. When done right, hydro outgrows small spaces. It's interesting all the growers on youtube that stuff as many pots as possible into a grow space not realizing that the plants will grow to be much bigger than the space.

I just spray them with water once or twice a day to raise up the humidity a bit, it dries up pretty quick and gets my humidity to where I like it.

I have plenty of space to move these gals when they are ready, this is mostly an experiment. I've grown in smaller areas, but like you mentioned polish the plants don't necessarily reach their full potential, but they sure as hell will try.

You know, one of the reasons CFL's work so well is they pump out UV light more than the tubes. Great for budding & ripening. I like mixing my light types for that reason. Currently, my seedlings are in a sm fish tank with 2 grow lights resting on top. When they go into a faster veg growth, they'll be transplanted & put into my cabinet. 4' 6tube T5's, plants, 2 rows of 4 with a shop light on its back down the center with grow lights (under lighting). CFL's spread around as side lighting. When I change over to 12/12, the only thing I change out is I go from cool to warm CFL's. This warms the light up a bit, but still keeps it on the cool side to prevent stretch. About 2wks before finish, I add a couple of red cfl party lights to aid ripening & this close to the end, there won't be any stretching. Keeping light k on the cool side keeps the buds from being as light & fluffy as they could become under fluorescents. My space is 4 1/2 x 2 1/2. You may need more or less cfls according to your space size. :) :) :)

Very clever. What do have for air exchange in this cool little stealth system?

jsengbusch88
12-06-2013, 06:39 PM
Honestly just two 4 inch fans with light traps. One for exhaust and one for intake...very simple, yet so far nice and effective. Sometimes I turn off the intake and just let the exhaust pull the air through on it's own, this helps raise temps as well.

I also have a 6 inch fan (I think??) as you can see in the pictures to help move around those little branches.

Not sure what it is about this FF hydro but the gals do NOT like this stuff....and therefore neither do I.

Although I will probably use it again for a different grow, I think I'm over it as far as this one goes. I used the minimal amount for feeding this round (unlike the first time whereas I nearly murdered them) and yet it still seems to be burning them. Like I've said before this is just an experiment so the outcome is a win for me regardless. Anyone have any ideas on why this stuff is messing with my plants so much?
