if I don't know the strain of the cannabis plant i'm growing how long do I bud it for?

You "bud it" until the flowers are ripe lol
When the pistils (hairs) turn amber, get a jewelers lens and start checking the trichomes.
Harvest when the trichs are about 50% cloudy white, 50% amber.

the pistils of the young buds appear whitish and when they start to mature, they'll turn reddish brown or brownish. the calyxes will also begin to swell. when about 40% to 50% of the pistils will change color, harvesting can be done. you can let it bud up to a few more days or weeks but remember that potency is reduced if you will wait too long before you harvest
