View Full Version : TLO Scrog, 600w MH + 150w HPS, 6 plant indoor attic grow

Hello all, I am new here. I will be posting a log of my grow here. I am growing 6 plants indoors under a screen in soil. Specifically True living organics style soil mix with the layers and spikes and teas, etc. for watering i use only rainwater/snowmelt. the plants were allowed to veg for 2 months. The under growth was trimmed early and kept so. The canopy tucked and allowed to grow into a woven horizontal jungle below the screen. Around I'd say 20% of the fans leaves were removed when I flipped two weeks ago. The screen was pretty full at that point maybe too much so. i added screen to both sides. Continuing to tuck and weave maybe once or twice more.(3 wks into flower). Using chicken wire for screen. Oh yeah strains are SLH, bubble gum, flo?, red eye Jedi?
the question marks come from my clone source. (Stoner).
This is my 3rd run in the attic and I am finally confident I have the elements beat. I have now proven methods for environ control during all 12 months. At a high elevation in the mountains, this was most of the battle for me. The scrog is new up there for me too, seems like a no brainier really to me, given the space (vertical) constraints that are built into the attic.
Follow along and I'm all ears!!
ok and how the heck do I post pics????? From iPhone??????

I still can't figure out how too upload pics. Just finished watering the ladies with rain water and a little calmag. Looking good. Budsites abundant. 13 days into flower. I will be in the wilderness for the next 2 weeks will continue when return. Hopefully by then someone will help me figure out how the hell to upload pics on here.

it has always been some what a mystery how many post one person is required to have before they can post images directly into a thread. I've been here for years and this questions comes up all the time. 30? 33? 35? 50? Now images may be posted into an album and from there inserted into a thread. I dunno. If I ever find out what the scheme is, I'll remember it.

This one is the flo.
I am super pumped with the very unique and pungent smells coming off the BG, Flo, and SLH.
The other 3 plants I have smell just ehh, ok at the moment. It's apparently called red eye Jedi. I haven't grown or smoked it before. It grows like a weed and kinda smells like sweet tooth. Might turn out tasty, stony, and stinky, have to wait and see. If it isn't really awesome I can do only SLH, Flo, and BG next run.
Going out of town again will post new pics in a week.

This is a pic from before they started flowering. All growth below the screen needs to be chopped off. Wait, dont get me wrong...U want branches growing up into the screen you just don't want leaves and budsites (that won't amount to anything nice anyway) below the screen. That's my understanding of it anyhow.

those are hudge!
5 gal buckets?

10-27-2013, 05:41 PM
Thanks growdemon, and yes 5 gal pots.
CaptainOrganicsCO
10-28-2013, 12:08 AM
5 gal pots start with clay balls, then some organicare pure, fresh worm castings, and stuff, then roots organic soil couple inches repeat organicare pure layer, more roots. Then right before I transplant anything into this pot I put down some great white. Then transplant, back fill with just roots and a little extra perlite.. On the top I top dress a little with more fresh worm castings, then a mulch layer (more clay balls). Then spike the pot with 2 veg spikes and 2 flower spikes. (For the unaware this method is the rev's and he has a book all about it, true living organics)
Next watering I add a little more great white. This is all done during the vegetative stage.
I use only rainwater or sometimes distilled water from the store.
It could be a "water only grow" although the use of mellow teas is pretty helpful. The spikes are keep as they contain a shit ton of much needed stuff, and without them your plants would suck growing in this manner.
Go organic! Organic smokes better, tastes better, or at least I think so and so do a lot of others!
There's lots of ways to grow this is just how I do it, right now anyways

Hey I am curious??? Anyone growing organically in soil using microbial teas??? When do you do you last tea? I think I might be using pure water only from this point to harvest. Another tea might help I'm not really sure, need some advice.
I am at currently at 40 days into flower.
The bubblegum in there is supposed to finish at 56-63 days. That's my quickest flowering plant in there, I believe.
Also another ?, when I went out of town the low temps plummeted to 46 degrees. I have since kicked up heat. I allow a low of 55 and that's been ok in the past. Do you this my myco fungi is pissed off or dead from low temps half day for 3 days? What about the other micro life? Don't want to stunt ladies halfway thru flower! Should I add more great white in next watering?? I could add the tea to reintroduce more micro life??
Any thoughts welcome and thanks!!295913
This is a couple pics from today, day 40. They look fine but my concern is for the micro life in the soil getting slowed down or dead, which would show itself soon enough and definitely negatively affect the harvest ultimately.

yes, organic, tea, indoor and out. I do last tea about 3-4 weeks out, then molasses/water one week then wekk of just water then no water until harvest. Of course outdoors may have more water than you may want sometimes.
CaptainOrganicsCO
10-31-2013, 10:59 PM
Thanks, u think I messed them up by letting room get cold?
CaptainOrganicsCO
10-31-2013, 11:52 PM
Please tell me to shovelhandle, how much molasses/gallon h2o 2 weeks prior??
And are u flushing? I'm worried potentially that giving them molasses that late into flower may end up with too much mag in the plants and might smoke/taste harsh?
I imagine flushing can easily solve that. I wasn't planning on having to though...
CaptainOrganicsCO
11-07-2013, 03:05 PM
Gave them another round of tea, all of them. Pretty mellow anyway.
Looking good.
So I go to a buddy's house to get some smoke... And we're hanging out and he casually mentions that he has a spidermite infestation. Damn! I'm sitting right in the middle of an infested room! Fuck. I've never had them before. Don't want them. I can only imagine what a pain in the ass that would be with a scrog set up. Fingers crossed.

Things are looking good. 11 more days and ill chop the bubblegum plant. It's looking and smelling great. That being said I wish the buds were fatter.
296098
I think... Wait... I'm sure my screen is over crowded. Learning experience. I will be doing a scrog again next run, but I will allow the plants more space. Maybe 4 instead of 6 in the same space.

I just finished looking at all the tricomes on all the plants. Nothing's really close to ready. Cut the BG and the Flo out of the screen. Flushed both with 15 gal H2O. Back in attic for probably 2 more weeks, I don't wanna rush it if its not ready. Figured they needed a good flush. Both very green all over still.

I haven't actually ever tried it yet. (Dark for few days before harvest)
I may still try it with another ( still have four going...
This run was my first scrog ever. It's pretty cool, good for my attic.
Learned a lot.
Next run with also be a scrog with some improvements:
1) individual screens for each plant
2)no chicken wire, so tuff at the end!
3) less strains running at once
Thinking maybe 3 SLH and 3BG next time??.
4) not overcrowding the screen
5) more teas during veg and flower
6) foliar feeding during veg and early flower using ACT diluted. Shov says 8:1, ill try that ratio.
Pics still coming.

Will chop both as soon as I can.
Next run is being determined now. Have diesel, BG, SLH mothers.

Scrog again?
Probably, little different this next time.

Funny too the other plant looks pretty now and has lots of resin, and stinks. Really stinks! I mean really really stinks! Smells just like body odor. Never smelled a plant like it. I don't know what strain it is. I think ill call it "skunk pits", lol fitting name.

I wanted to post this somewhere in my thread a dude named LBH put it together. Sums up scrogging and is a good how to, with pictures. He says not to use chicken wire lol and he's right. Didn't find this till after the first scrog was up and running.
Hope this helps clarify stuff for anyone wondering. I am happy to help also, although I am a student, not a master.

Update: Day 82
Still going. SLH shoulda already finished in 9-10 wks. I'm almost at 12. The other plant is really exploding. All clear tricomes on that one still. SLH may be able to come down tonite.
Due to my attic cleaning session the other night I feel the need to Wash my buds.
I have never done this but I've read a lot about it. A certain master cannabis gardener swears by it. It seems crazy to put a perfectly good bud in water. In my ultra low humidity region of the world, slower drying would be nice. But that's not the reason to do it, the wash buckets will have a lot of dirt on the bottom I think. Although my room is pretty well sealed, the attic got super dusty with soil mixing and cleaning the other nite. So why not wash off the dirt and dust? We know trichomes aren't water soluble. I'm gonna try it unless someone has a really good reason not to. I don't have any worry about bud rot due to the RH in my house.
Here's the recipe:
Keep the plant in branches, not buds and trim as u normally would.
Get 3 5 gal buckets set up.
The first bucket is room temp h2o and 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup lemon juice.
The second is hot water
The 3rd is cold water.
Dip branch in first bucket, agitate lightly, cycle through remaining buckets and hang to drip dry for a day. Continue drying as u normally do.
If I do do this ill take pics and post a full report, leaving some buds unwashed for comparison.

Hope I caught you before you did dat.
The baking soda makes no sense.
Hot water melts the capitate glands wax cuticle and cold water will make the trichs brittle.
You will lose potency.
I'll post this fast, then explain.
Weezard
12-12-2013, 01:04 AM
Nothin' crazy about it.
There's bug poop, powdery mildew, mold spores, pet hair, dead skin cells, dust mites, all kinds of pollen, (ragweed, pine, etc.)
I have washed my buds for years.
However, the best method I have found is tepid water. 60 - 70 F. is ideal.
Add about a half pint of 3% H2o2, (Hydrogen Peroxide)
That kills and helps wash away the PM. (There's always some buried deep in the buds)
I used my eyeclops to take 100X pictures before and after the rinse.
I worked for that resin.
Not about to risk losing any.
With room temp. water, you can thrash the shit out of it and lose nary a cap.
But, use cold water?
Hope you have bubble bags standing by.
You just made some hash. :)
And wax caps start to melt at ~95 F.
Now, please explain to me the whole fizzy thingee.
Why on earth would you do the NaHCO3 and lemon juice thing.
NaHCO3 + Citric acid = NaHCO + CO2 and (a gummy mess)
The actual, for anyone following along in the text book, is:
H3C6H5O7(aq) + 3 NaHCO3(s) → 3 CO2(g) + 3 H2O(l) + Na3C6H5O7(aq)
But whose counting? :D
Just does not make sense to me.
What am I missing, Cap?
Aloha,
Weezard

So I did take down the SLH tonite
296602
And then I ground it up and put it in my washing machine. jk.
Weezard I will post the logic (or lack there of) on the thread on bud washing I started.
Tonite I trimmed as I usually would
296603
I decided to try weezards advice on washing for a small sample of the plant, maybe 10%.
I forgot to grab lemon juice and baking soda from the store tonight. Wouldn't want to wash after they had begun to dry I don't think. I will try the lemon juice/ baking soda wash in the near future on another sample.
I washed a pretty small sample, did not visually see any "shit" in the water. PPM on the wash before putting the buds in was 72. After washing the small sample the PPM was 89. Something came off the buds into the water, not much. I am real curious to see if the washed bud smokes/tastes any different. Cool test. Backed off a little with the small sample test :).

I enjoy testing crazy ideas that sound good. The dude who came up with this is a pretty damn good grower, Doc Bud. Granted he is way into foliar feeding, all the way through flower pretty much. I can see where the idea began, if I was spraying bat shit, worm shit, fishy shit on or near my buds, I would want that washed off before I smoked it.
Now I just have one lady left. It's finishing slowly but surely. I killed the HPS and will finish it under the MH only. One week I guess.
Buds are really looking cool. Loads of resin. It's very interesting to me how the plants react to the MH vs. the HPS during flower. The buds that were directly under the MH have much more resin production. U can see difference with the naked eye, it's cool.
I will post some pics tonite, they should come out good with only MH lighting in there now.
