I have a BIG camper thats nearly 1/2 closet. Biggest closet I've EVER had. Now that I've removed the shelf on top, its 7' high, 10' long, 3' deep. Ill be using what I already have for veg. I have a 6' light mover, 250 watt hps (not using for veg) a lot of fluorescent grow lights, 4 led's. A shit load of 4" & 6" fans, 4 fan forced carbon air filters with ozone emitters. For veg, Ill be using all lights except hps for veg. Been checking seed banks for sm varieties, but don't see anything any better than what I usually grow for my space. NL. Campers get hot when the sun hits them, so waiting for cool weather. Will have this up & running probably Nov.

Congratulations on starting your premier grow log here at Cannabis.com, Catbuds.
To comment on your question about my soil and lights. My grow medium is similar to yours. I have a 110 gallon outdoor composter for my little garden. When I get a chance I like to compost my used indoor soil in between grow seasons, normally in the Spring-Summer while I grow outdoors. In a very large tote I'll mix the soil with some kitchen scraps, brown material ( I did use leaf material this time as I didn't feel like screwing with making butter or hash), peanut shells (I'm a nut-a-holic), a dozen or two of earthworms and compost starter. I don't bring in anything from outdoors. In addition to the composted re-used soil I mix peat moss, perlite and amendments. These vary, dolomite lime, earth worm castings, composted/dehydrated manure, bone meal, molasses, bat guano, all kinds of shtt. I add one of many Espoma products with Bio-Tone to 'activate' the soil with 'bugs'. I will add mycorrhizae to the soil when planting by mixing with water and adding to the root area. Our water is hard so I use very little lime anymore.
I grow indoors usually during the heating season. We just started using heat again and yesterday the fuel truck filled our kerosene tank. I do have an exhaust fan in the grow area to rid the odors when necessary but I like to keep the heat indoors most of the time. I start the seedlings with the four lamp, 4' T5HO lights. I buy both spectrum, grow and bloom 3k and 6500k approximately). I use just these for the seedlings. Though I've seen others get great results using only the florescent lamps through veg or even through the whole grow I go to a 400 watt MH pretty early on. I've seen some folks get really good results with the VHO and UHO T5 lights. I just feel that is what worked best for me. I use a large box fan blowing across the plants and lights and manage to keep the temperature under 80º.
I use 2' x 4' sheets of cardboard hung for reflectors and keep the lighting in around the plants. These sheets were mylar covered for years until it wore out and I painted them with flat white bathroom ceiling paint (anti-bacterial,mold). So the grow area can be from 2' x 4' out to as much as 4' x 6', if necessary. At the max size I use two 400 watt HID fixtures overhead and the T5HO florescent for back lighting.
As far as seed choices and plant size I found that I can grow almost any hybrid and keep the size under control even with a full eight week veg. I do crop early, twice. With the sativa run I'm doing now it is recommended that I go right to bloom light schedule from seedling stage. I know your feelings on this but experienced growers with these strains advise this. Even so, I want to give them a couple of weeks to start and 18 hrs of light to recover from the cropping. The bloom period will likely be 12 weeks and more.
This should answer your questions and many more you didn't ask (you didn't ask for this book, but we have no PMs here). You can find my grow logs (a lot of 'em) by clicking my name > latest started threads and see the list of grow log threads.

Thanks Ranger
Shovel, we really do so many things alike, & like you, I switch it up from one grow to the next.
For my leaf mold, I go out back & scoop up tree leaves that have just started to decompose. These are the ones that would have the most enzymes. This is my compost starter. I'm also having issues with a nasty neighbor who thinks she's getting over on me by dumping her grass clippings on my property. Once they've dried & started to compost, I scoop some up, mix in my pile & say 'thank you rich bitch'. If she only knew ha ha. She'd rather send them to the land fill than let me make use of them. Of course my kitchen scraps go in the pile. Only veggies, NEVER meat or meat by products. (Also, only manure from veg eaters, no meat eaters)
Now on to sea bird guano.... 6 miles south west of me on the North East river, head of the Chesapeake bay, is a little beach town. I take 2 5gal buckets with me to the town park on spring & fall clean up days.& load them up with the sea gull poo they scrape from the playground equipment. This stuff's great. I live up in the hills, surrounded by woods & farms, so I have quick & easy access to chicken & cow poo, friends with rabbits & guinea pigs, more good poo. Mother Natures gold mine right at my finger tips.
I do use my compost indoors after I've made it safe. Pre-heat oven @ 180º. Fill baking pans with compost & moisten. Bake @180º for 1 hr. Kills plant pathogens, insects, eggs, & larva, but not hot enough to kill nutrients. My used soil? I dump that in my gardens (flower & veg) & till it in. My water? Hell babe, I have a spring!
Peanut shells are great. Good call on that one Shovel! The fiber part is slow to decompose, so it helps loosen the soil, while adding all thoes organic nutrients.
Next post I'll go into my potting mix. I wanted to discuss compost now because hey, you start at the beginning , right?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~PEACE!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~

Ranger, that is the most nutritionally complete thing you can add to your soil, composted leaf mold, & non burning too. Plenty of fiber to help keep soil loose & aireated (spelling).

Hey guys, 'thenewgrow' needs help from someone with a bigger screen than my darned cell ph. I need to make sure I'm seeing what I think I see. Could someone hop over there (GROW LOG , first time grower :)& I'm growing under hps 400) & get a better look at his pics & read my post to him. His plants hermied & when you read my post you'll see what I THINK I'm seeing. When I look at everybody's pics, I'm looking at an image that's only 1/4 the size of a 35mm slide/negative plus I need new glasses. I hate it when this keeps me from helping someone. Thanks! I know one of guys will help.

So how many plants do you think you'll be able to comfortably veg in that space? How long would you veg? How many for flowering max? And how much electricity would you be using? Like your ideas here, look forward to seeing what happens!

Hey Buggy! Well they will be started in solo cups, 4. Since I'll be keeping them sm, they will veg 2-3 wks. Ill be judging by size. Then on to 12/12. Not transplanted till roots fill cups just enough to hold hold soil ball togethet, then on to 1gal nursery pots. About 3wks before harvesting the first batch, I'll start 4 more, which will be ready for 12/12 the day after harvest. (Down for a day to vacuum & steam clean grow area. LOVE steam cleaning!) I'll keep a perpetual harvest going till warm weather makes it too hot to do the camper thing. The lights I'll be using will be easy on elect. Since I'm keeping them sm, won't need high powered lights. Using 2 shop light fixtures, each with 2 GE grow tubes, 40 watts ea. 4 LED's, with shoplight fixtures just far enough apart to place 1 LED over ea plant. Forgot wattage on LED's. Have a lot of 4"-6" fans. How many I use will depend on temp, same with fan forced carbon/ion air cleaners, smell dictates how many I'll use. Was going to use 250 watt hps for flower, but when I saw Shovels pics of fluorescent only, changed my mind. Also the fact that sometimes in the winter I have cherry tomatoes in fruit under fluor only, & you know what sun lovers they are. I was going to go with northern lights because they're sm & potent, but for now I'vechanged my mind. Papaya, short & dense plant. Aurora indica because seed catalog described the high as 'couchlock' forgot to write down the size, but it must have been sm or I wouldn't have put it on my list. I picked the aurora because 'couchlock' will help with my insomnia. I do most of my smoking at night to help with that & muscle spasms. Nothing like have muscle spasms wake you in the middle of the night screaming. I'll have sm harvests from my indoor, but as long as I don't over indulge (& doing perpetuals), that will do me till my outdoor grow. Still not a lot of plants, 8-10 on average, but big heavy producers. I'd like to do more if I can manage to hide them. Thieves hit me hard here. Oh, & as they bud, if they become dense enough to block light to lower leaves, I like to throw in an extra fluorescent, lay the fixture on the floor, its back. Not expecting this to make more lower buds, but the extra light helps with photosynthesis, which helps plants convert sugars & food they take up which feeds the buds. Haven't calculated actual cost of elec use, but this is a low cost way to go!~~~~~PEACE!~~~~~

Sounds like your really working the light angles. Couple of thoughts, I like to move and turn my plants allot, the sun moves outside. And I use a variety of lights to simulate the progress of the season indoors, late spring - summer - and fall all in a short time. Still think you need a veg cabinet, would double your production.

I turn my plants a lot, if not one part will always get more light than another. Ill be switching the LED's out, first blue spectrum, then mixed, then red as I go from veg to bud. I'll be using a lg fish tank with a 4' 2 tube shop light over top for a veg chamber. I've used that tank for over 20yrs, works good. I already have most of the equipment, just need to buy some red spectrum LED's & 2 more sockets. This will be the cheapest, smallest grow room (closet) I've ever had in my life. Just want to mention, the fluorescent ballast will be outside the tank (obviously), so over heating won't be an issue. Been thinking about actually starting 12/12 in the fish tank & moving them to the closet just before they get too close to the tubes. How tall they are at that stage will determine if I can do that or not.
---- Did you read the varieties I picked? I thought I'd harvest the papaya while the trichromes are about 50/50 milky & amber for more of an energized high for day time, & since the seed co described the aurora indica as a couch lock high, I'd let that one go till trichs are almost all amber, help me out more with the night pain & insomnia. I try to tell people to drink chamomile tea with their last smoke if sleep or night pain is an issue for them. So many don't listen, but it works great. Its the perfect combination......... So, what's your opinion of all this? (Was going to post my soil mix, but that can vary according to what commercial mix is available, since I use thoes as my base. Usually go with a soil less mix called pro-mix, my favorite from my commercial greenhouse days, then mix in my organics. So I won't post that till I actually buy the mix since I can't always find the pro-mix).~~~~PEACE!~~~~
P.S. I knida noticed I was jumping back & forth from closet to veg tank in first paragraph. Hope its not too confusing.

Can almost see the fish tank used, almost but it seems to water tight to me.
I can see 20 ladies in your closet making whoppee, spending 6-8 weeks there depending on what you like. Then replaced with a while new set.
Hear what you say about colors and highs, but like weezard said somewhere, I go by my nose.
Genetics, once a year, have a k-cup party. About a month after harvest, have a bring and brag, usually have a name and I can ask about how they grow. Then it becomes will it help or improve my stuff, resistance is becoming as important as shape, cloning, growth, finished bud, and Potency. If it don't bubble it ain't worth the trouble.

Well I can't get the 30 gal tank through the closet door!!!! Gilda's nursery closed so I can't get used 1 gal pots for 10 cents ea, the other nursery closed so I can't get my favorite potting mix I use as a base for my soil mix. Alrighty then.... Been growing since the 70's without much change. Now I'll be changing up more than I wanted to. Loved my soil mix, but now it looks like I might be stuck with miracle gro potting mix as a base. I'll have to soak & flush the hell out of it first, hate those nutes! (Please don't hate me for this guys, I hate that crap as much as you do) If I have to go that route, I'll use same amt compost, little more perlite & spaghnum moss, same on worm castings & seagull guano. Since it's hard to get all the nutes out of MG, I won't feed till the plants indicate they need it. By then, I'll probably be ready for the Bills Perfect Flower & some molasses & top dress with a little bone meal & earth worm castings. Hopefully all the chem nutes will be gone long before harvest. HATE chems, LOVE organics! My BF said she thinks I just like playing in the dirt, I think it may be the poo!!!! LOL!~~~Peace~~~

Oh yeah, I said I was going to post here about my electrical fire. My back porch was enclosed with greenhouse plastic, & had my tank out there with a 4' double tube grow light on it, baby girls looking pretty. Well here comes Sandy. Amateur storm chaser that I am, I'm out there watching the trees bend over (biggest one broke, just missed greenhouse & porch, but landed on well/spring). Just as that big tree broke (80' tree missed me by little less than 6') a fire broke out on the porch. The plug on everything electrical was blazing. Fire shot up that green house plastic like greased lightening. EVERYTHING was on fire. I couldn't believe how fast it all happened. A couple of my friends are screaming call 911! I'm like hell no! I'll get busted with all these plants! So they ran off & left me there. The only thing I had to fight the fire with was a spray bottle full of fish emulsion plant food & a wet towel! The burning plastic stank bad enough, but don't spray fish emulsion on a fire. The smell WILL make you puke! BTW, that plastic burns like an accelerate. I saved my girls & myself, the back porch was in shambles. I wanted the 'youngens' to know how easy & fast an electrical fire can happen. With what we do do, WE ARE AT HIGH RISK! Always keep that in mind, & please be safe. Make sure you NEVER over load extention cords! ~~~PEACE!~~~

absolutely. I have 1500 watt timers but I split up my load between two of them. 400+ watts on one and 600+ watts on the other. I had checked all the cords, plugs, timers and strips after they were running for a few hours and 1000+ watts on one timer and plug was making parts very warm (you can feel it). Be very careful, use quality parts and check everything.

On the soil front here's a couple suggestions. See if one of your local communities has a city or county compost site as part of the department of Sanitation. Locally, I live north of downtown Raleigh by 18 miles and west of Durham by 16 miles. Both of these cities operate city compost sites; Raleigh's is OMRI certified as organic compost. Cost is $25.00 for a full sized pickup truck bed load (carry a tarp with you to tie off over the top after loading the compost). If you don't need that much you can fill up to a 35 gallon bag or container; i.e. 35 gallon plastic garbage can cost $3.50...Then also check out Southern States (they aren't really in Raleigh or Durham anymore but in the smaller out lying towns 12-18 miles north or northwest from me. Southern States will carry they're own brand organic potting mix which was pretty cheap along with 3 cu ft bags of Peat Moss ($13.99) and 4 cu ft bags of Perlite ($13.99) locally. The garbage cans are the most expensive thing doing this. For the tarp get a 12' x 12' or bigger to cover the compost in the pickup track bed cause you can use it to lay out and mix your soil together. I go in layers of each with a few dashes on each main layer using bat guano, worm casings, and chicken manure (Southern States sells ChickDoo pretty cheap too) on top of each layer usually making four layers of each component; then pull the corners of the tarp over from one side to the other; followed by pulling opposite ends of the corners together mixing up the stuff. When finished mixing I store it in the garbage cans lightly spraying with a little water and set in direct sun for a couple weeks; mixing with shovel once a day, to bake (two reasons for this sterilize the soil for insects and season the mixture).
The other thing I found is the largest local nursery is large enough they have Fafard private label it's stuff with the local nursery name. They sell a 2.5 cu ft of Fafard Organic Mix for $13.99 while the other nurseries locally sell Fafard's 2 cu ft bag for $16.99 (that's 25% for 20% less). So I'd recommend calling your largest nursery around to see if they get anything private labeled.

FF, the transportation is the biggest issue for me. But!!! Found out Sweeneys DIDN'T close. My friend had went up when they were closed for remodeling & thought they had shut down. They rented the store space next to them to enlarge & were closed while they busted down the wall between them. Guess what their main reason for enlargement was... to provide for indoor growers like US!!!! YEAH!!!! I just got off the ph with them. They still have my pro-mix soil, both standard & organic, so I'll be getting 2 cu' standard pro mix, & either 1cu' pro mix organic or 1 1/2cu' fox farm. They also have the 1 1/2gal nursery pots I like, & hey Shovel, check this out, 3 gal grow bags, 25 for $7.00= .28 cents ea. T5 fluorescent grow tubes @ $10.00 ea. I guess I should have called Sweeneys BEFORE I had a panic attack! They also have a lot of organic nutes. I'll decide on which when I get there. Whew.......... So I get to up grade instead of being stuck doing the nasty with (god forgive me) miracle grow! Ok, all the good organics right there & I'll save my own compost for outdoors. But I did get some bad news from the owner. They had a huge maincoon cat named Milo that I (&everybody else) loved. He was so sweet & spoiled & one hell of a ham. Anytime a woman would set her purse on the counter, he would CLIMB IN IT to search for cat treats! Well someone stole him. :( Mean people suck! I used to stop at Burger King & get him a fish filet & put it in my big assed pocketbook for him to find. I'm gonna miss my little fat buddy when I go in there! I hope where ever he is, he's being treated well. He's such a good boy.

It's always been plants animals & music (me & my dad pickin'), with me. I've physically hurt people for being mean to animals. It's like going in momma bear's cave & fucking with her cub. It was last Halloween when he disappeared, & to be honest, since he was orange & looked like a big furry pumpkin, my biggest fear is some punks nabbed him & threw him off the I-95 bridge through the windshield of an oncoming vehicle. They do that every Halloween around here with black cats. Our local paper even warns black cat owners not to let their cats outside anywhere near Halloween. I had one thrown through my windshield the night before Halloween about 25 yrs ago. I turned my car around, chased him down, beat him with a lug wrench, got back in my car & ran over his legs. It wasn't even a young punk. He was 50 yrs old! Am I sorry? Only for the cat. I took him to the vet, no broken bones or internal injuries, but he lost both ears & one eye, so scared he only had hair in patches. The vet said he was around 15, & he lived another 7. I got 18months, suspended with 5 yrs probation. The states attorney wanted to charge me with attempted murder. At pre sentencing I told the judge if I wanted to kill him, I'd have ran over his head instead of his legs. I just wanted to cripple him for life. Thank god the judge was a cat lover. I've NEVER been sorry when I whipped someone's ass for hurting an animal. But there's quite a few people who are sorry my dad gave me boxing lessons & sent me to a martial arts school! Sorry about the rant, but I just couldn't help it!

Got all three of the soils. Pro-mix (standard) for seed starter. Its milled spaghnum & perlite, no nutes. Pro-mix organic, great soilless mix with compost & other great organics. & Fox Farms ocean forest, GREAT mix, excellent organics, but a lityle strong for seedlings. So you see they'll be transplanted twice, each potting medium a little richer. Everybody should agree this is all great stuff
---- Ok, now this is the part where we will all butt heads........ LIGHTING... nothing but fluorescents. Yeah, you read right, pure fluorescent! But keep in mind, CAMPER CLOSET...entire camper ran on several extention cords. Remember, I've had fire before. Plants can't finish any taller than 2 1/2'. Fluorescents are great plant lights, but can't penetrate foliage or distance. That's fine in my case. Let me describe my set up. For veg (& 1st 2wks of flowering) 4' double tube shop light fixture, cool whites, total 5800 lumens, 6-8" from plant tops. I have 4 lamps I made, adjustable from 8"- 2 1/2' tall that will house CFL's @ 1200 lumens each. I also have a bunch of 900 lumens & can make more lamps as I need to increase light. At the ends of the 4' fixture will be a 2' under cabinet grow lux, forgot the lumens. These are all cool white for veg, but will go into flowering for two wks before switching over to warm whites & adding RED CFL PARTY LIGHTS. Cool (blue spectrum) doesn't make plants stretch like warm (red) does, so this little two wk thing makes a lot of difference in the finish height. Two days before harvest, I'll cut the lights back to only 10 hrs & cover the warm whites with red plastic. This forces rapid ripening. I know what to expect & I know with more intense lighting I would have bigger, tighter buds & more harvest weight, but under the circumstances, it is what it is. I'll also be doing root restriction by keeping them just slightly pot bound. I wanted to share my penny pinching technique to show when in a pinch, it doesn't have to be expensive. Just tide me overs till the outdoor crop.

Been having a problem with my post not POSTING. 'Posted' this a couple days ago & somehow lost it, so here it is again. My bff ordered me a 6 tube T5 grow light, complete with tubes. She'd planned to leave it with another friend of ours who lives just up the road from me & have her deliver it xmas day, but when she heard I spent my grocery money on grow supplies, she nixed the suprise idea, told me about it & will be bringing it to me the second weekend of Dec. She spoils me. Think its her way of making up for moving so far away!
---- Anyway, BIG improvement on lighting & will be building a cabinet (gotta keep the kitties out). It definitely won't fit in the closet! I will still be side lighting & underlighting with the fluorescent that was to be the main overhead light in the closet. Probably use the closet for about 2 wks before cabinet is complete.
----Some of you probably wonder why I started this thread before I started the grow. Figured it would be easier to log my technique first, as I have a lot of little tidbits I've picked up along the way that are uniquely mine. They're not wives tails, all have been tried & true. Wanted to stress a few things about organic that went beyond just nutes, but also the hormone thing that can be found naturally occuring in various organics if you only know where to look. Now thats out of the way, I can concentrate on logging the construction & grow in real time. Hopefully someone can instruct me on how to get pics posted to this thread from this damned cell phone. Its a Samsung Galaxy S3 if anyone would be familiar with the bells & whistles on this thing!

My posts haven't been going through either...I tried to respond to one of your compliments about my grow CAB but it never showed.
I've been hoping to build more, including a PC box and Pantry for flowering. My hopes in the long run are to sell them online or locally.
Stoked to see what you come up with because all the grow boxes on here are unique.

I'm pretty crafty. I keep changing it around in my mind, you know, the visualization process. Trying to use as little lumber ad possible because I'm stealing it from the lumber that's to fix my roof. I keep robbing Peter to pay Paul. I still have a few wks to work it out in my mind before the lights get here. One of the problems is someone stole my brand new tools, never out of the box. Reciprocating saw, jig saw, palm sander, all my wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, channel locks. All of it. I'd just bought them to replace the ones that had been STOLEN! I'd shoot them, but SOMEONE STOLE MY RIFLE! Its so beautiful here, rolling hills, woods, ponds, abundant wild life..... but we're over run with thieves & vandals. My soil's rich & I have a spring. I should be able to enjoy being here, but I can't.....
---- But anyway, do you have pics posted? Something else that might interest you would be a drying cabinet. Even if you choose not to use one (& some people don't), it might be a profitable item. I've checked out the 'room mate' the 'producer' & the rest of the line, definitely over priced. Needs more height for one thing, & I think the ventilation needs improving. Its only advantage is the co2 injection system, but still way over priced. Something they don't mention.... the exhust should shut off while the co2 is being injected. That's very important & they make no mention of it at all. Hightimes has a free news letter & they have a video ad for it. Check it out, study it well, read other peoples opinions of this product. You can find opinions on most of the forums. Put that all together, & with a little imagination & engenuity, I bet you can come up with a much superior product. Price it to sell & who knows how far you can go with it. I think you have a good idea you should stick with. I like seeing people succeed. My dad was an inventor/craftsman. He invented a little perpetual motion device that could have made him a wealthy man, but he died before he could pattent & market it. So good luck with that. Keep me posted! :) :) :)

Wow that's really inspirational! I have looked into a lot of the stealth grow cabs out there and I agree that they are completely over priced! It cost me less to make my cabinet then it did to buy just a grow tent...So I'll keep plugging away with my designs. The one I have now is awesome, I would just make sure the paint, parts and all that were brand new of course if I were to sell them.
One cabinet I saw was AMAZING. This thing had a touch screen on the side to adjust temps, CO2, Nutrients the whole shabang...3000 dollars. Who the hell is going to buy that ya know? I want mine to help those noobs and experienced alike. Maybe I could make a dvd that comes with your new cab to show its functions or something similar.
Sky is the limit, I'm excited to see what comes of all this.

You know, I've found the first one I make of something is usually the most costly one. As I make amendments on each consecutive one, not only am I making improvments, but finding more cost efficient ways to do so. Once you get this thing rolling, another thought would be a lot of potential customers would be disabled folk needing your cabinet for medical grow. Keeping your cabinets reasonably price would be a great boon for them, but even then, on fixed incomes, may still be out of reach. You could devise a payment plan through credit/debit cards, doing the 3 installment payment thing. This is usually how I do my big purchases. Dont know how you'd set it up, but any business person who uses this practice could advise you on the 'how to's'. This could greatly increase your clientele (&therefore profits), & you would be a great humanitarian by helping mmj patients who are usually on fixed incomes. For talented people with a little vision, there's thousands of creative ways to be self-sufficient & help others in the process. The more you help, the more you succeed. Its a win win situation!

I would call them compost, but we all know meat products ruin you pile! Haha. Actually Ranger, Ill be switching out the 6800K's for 30000K's for flowering, switching the cool fluorescent side & underlighting to warm & throwing in some cfl red party lights. I'll be raising lumens a little & adding as many red cfl's as it takes to get that warm light spectrum all over my girls. When I first install them, I'll turn off all the other lights & arrange the red ones till I get an even red glow on them all before I turn the rest of the lights back on. Since fluorescents don't penetrate as well as HID's, I'll be taking care of that little problem by keeping them small. Maybe a tad bigger than sog, & doing a perpetual harvest. Will use the 'tank method' for veg. Once I get my strains established & choose my best male, I'll be going with clones indoors, seeding a few lower buds, & keeping the handsome boy in the bathroom, then the seed plants will be for my outdoor grow.
---- Can't wait to get rolling, growing my babies & handling a few 'scavengers' vigilante style! :) :) :)

Yea! Doin' the happy dance, rocking the camper! SEEDS CAME TODAY! Soil heating mat warmed up, market pks filled with seed starter & warming on the mat. I direct seed, so water warming on the mat. Will plop seeds into water to soak about 2 hrs or till saturated before sowing. Once planted, market pks go into sm aquarium on mat. I usually get germination within 24-36 hrs with the mat. Have had mats for around 30 yrs & wouldn't want to do without one. Adding ONE OR TWO DROPS of fox farms big bloom to 4 oz water. Not trying to fert them (can even use nutes at this point), just innoculating with some hormones. Helps increase females & stimulates root growth. Remember, big bloom doesn't have added hormones, but they are naturally occurring in some of the organic matter big bloom is composed of. Next trip to the grocers, picking up apples & bananas for ethylene gas. Will post again as the beans pop! :) :) :)

Ah, the best laid plans of mice & men! Thought I'd watch a movie while my beans soaked, but I fell asleep! They ended up soaking 12 hours & one had popped. Now eveybodys nestled warm & snug, inside tank on mat, covered with foil untill they break the soil. So excited! Hard to resist the urge to check every half hour! Hard not to be an obsessive moma after having entire crop ripped this year. Just let me catch a thief! I'll smack 'em with my cane & then bite 'em to death! I would have sucked up my loss, knowing it was my gamble had I planted else where, but it was in my wooded back yard, surrounded by fence, & clearly on MY property! Shows intent to rob ME, personally! I'll stop now or I'll be ranting. Slow deep breaths, think pleasant thoughts... of my new grow!!!!! Time to get back to the happy dance! :) :) :)

2 up in 24 hrs! Trying to beat old record of 100% germ in 38 hrs, so I'm hoping for 36 hrs. Could still happen. Soil heating mat, price (3yrs ago) $48.00, size 9" x 19". Pricey? Yeah....but worth every penny! Haven't been without at least one in around 30 yrs & would hate to do without. If you can afford it, try one. You'll be glad you did! Statement in a previous post may have been misleading. Thats not USUALLY 100% germ in 24-36 hrs, but a few at a time germing begining at 24-36 hrs, but with heating mat, all germ within 2-3 days. Another big bonus with heating mats. When the soil is moist, but too cold to germ seeds, the possibility of dampening off goes WAY up. So really big boon having gentle bottom heat. Most take seed flats off the mat as soon as seeds are up & nice & green. I leave mine on untill seedlings are big enough not to be effected by D.O. so the worse that ever happens to mine is me dropping something on them or... Sam (cat) getting the top off the tank & EATING them! Ok, off to do some chores! :) :) :)

Two years old isn't old at all. I'd expect good germination rate of seeds over five years old stored correctly. In plastic or paper envelopes, with descant, in a jar or tupperware, in the refrigerator.

Oh I wasn't implying that was old. I've germed 12 yr old seeds that I'd stored well. Had a ph conversation with a young blood last night who said he never kept seeds over 1 yr, that kinda made me think to say that as an indicator that its not old, with the fast germ to show that. When I post late at night, I don't always express myself well. Sorry.
--- Sounds like we store seeds similarly. I save the silica gel pks from meds & vitamins, hold them up to the light. Still white? Hasn't absorbed moisture, good to go. Pink or blue? Has moisture which can be removed by putting in microwave for a minute. I make little seeds pks out of paper towel, label & drop them all in a jelly jar & a couple silica gel pks & refrigerate. Oldest I've ever had were 12 & germed well. The BGXBBXBG gave me 100% germ in 44 hrs, which is great! I once beat that by 6 hrs by popping seeds straight from the plant into a cup of warm water, soaked & direct seeded into warmed soil. Will probably never beat that 38 hr record, but I keep trying anyway. (I'm talking breaking the soil)
--- Babies are looking pretty. Cant wait till they're big enough to top & put into flowering! Somewhere I saw a thread about bartering? I think it was Estebans. Anyway, I'm bartering some firewood to a carpenter friend for some labor & materials for the the cabinet. I've already framed it, one sheet short on plywood, need hinges & screws. Closet good to go, just hang light & place some CFL's among the plants once they're in there. :) :) :)

Yep! That was me looking for a shortie! NL & Big Bud are two of my favorite butt kickers. Had them both back in the day when Big Bud could only be had as a clone & NL had no #'s added to it. I think what I have growing now will be pretty darned manageable in tight quarters. Wk old babies looking indica as hell. (Bubble gum x blueberry back to Bubble gum). As long as I'm stuck under flourescents I'll be doing SOG. I prefer not to have to top, but since fluors don't penetrate too well, this will have to be my method till I get back in the house. Would do much better as a SCROG, but too old & gimpy to be able to bend over & stretch forward to prune under the netting, so it is what it is for now. I have plans for a well hidden room behind a big walk-in closet off of my bedroom when renovations begin on my house. Wish I could post pictures from this phone, I'd do a sketch of the plans & post it. It's gonna be sweet. Just playing the waiting games with the grant offices.
--So babies are looking good. In 2-3 wks they'll be moved to the cabinet. :) Then the fun begins! :) :) :)

We still have parsley growing in a window box indoors. The basil is pretty much done, they are dropping leaves. Still have the outdoor hanging plant growing indoors now. The blossoming plants are long gone (super-tunias) but the purple sweet potato vine and some other vine are still really nice. I wonder if they will make it until spring? Lots of spider plants and other houseplants resting for the winter. My favorite, the Mother-in -Law plant is putting out three new starts. Rescued that from our doctor's office when he was moving. Poor thing was on it's side on the floor with no soil. I brought it back and it's now 4' tall. I split the bunch and planted some and returned it to the doctor last summer. He was wicked impressed.
So, there is plenty of green stuff going still, most is dormant though this time of the year.
My experiment with growing sativa staright from seed into bloom is going very nicely. The transplant did slow growth for a week but things seem to be picking up.

-- Look, this will make you split your seams. Mom & dad, both raised on farms. They raised me on our sm farm. Dad still worked because we didn't make much off the farm, we sold veggies & eggs. When they hens aged & no longer layed eggs (called 'layed out'), they finished their natural life span as pets! Cost a small fortune to feed them, plus all the cats & dogs that were 'dumped' at our place. We never ate ONE chicken we raised cause me nor dad had the heart to kill them. Mom would have, but we wouldn't let her! Mom used to say ,'some farmers you two are. This isn't a farm, its a zoo!' I wonder if this is why most farmers go broke?!?!? We just got over a really cold snap. Now we're having a warm spell. I just want to live in a bio-sphere! (Ha! Then you could all call me bubble bitch! LOL!)
-- I'll be topping twice before they go into flower, so I'm not there yet. Just got their first real feeding, but minimal on the nitrogen. Just enough to keep that healthy green color, but not to encourage rapid growth. Lights come tomorrow, finishing touches on cabinet today, but...... my electrician is getting me a super heavy duty 100' foot extention cord. He said I can run up to 2500 watts on it & it will have its own circuit. (He called it a contractors cord). So I'm waiting a couple more weeks on that. Untill then they're under 2 40watt cool white T8's. Thats part of the reason I'm going easy on the nitrogen, don't want the floppy stems I'd have with higher nitrogen & weak lights. I probably should have held off planting untill everything was finished, but it will work out ok, just a slower start. Not the first time I've jumped the gun starting seeds then had to hold growth back a little, & with my impatience, I'm sure it won't be the last. Its not even officially winter yet & here I am with spring fever (that's why I planted my seeds too soon). I could sure use that bio-sphere right about now. :)

Ranger, what is romax? Funny, but lack of sleep does that to me, but take it too far & it just makes me bitchy! (Or I can blame it on that anyway! LOL!)
-- Geodomes are cool. Take it a few steps further, make it larger, a few adaptations & turn it into a bio-sphere! That would have to make you feel like god, having total control over the enviornment, keeping it late spring all year round. Of course you'd have lengthen day light through the summer, but you could also use HID's to bring the short day length up to 14 hrs through the winter. That would be my fantasy world! Just imagine it filled with ferns, orchids & cannabis! Ok. Back to reality. I just cleaned the litter pan & this camper still smells like cat piss. Two toms & somebody's going where they shouldn't be & I can't find it! ( probably down the unused heat ducts). Between that & me chain smoking, guess no one will ever be able to smell my grow! I like re-purposing stuff. I'm a cheap date! In the mean time, I'm getting these tiny once a year grants to do a few little things at a time. Mainly just sealing it up against more water damage untill the big grants start coming through. I'm re- purposing & re-glazing the broken windows & making a lean to greenhouse attached to the south side of the house too. If my plans don't get screwed, I'll have several greenhouses. The lean-to, turn both front & back porch roofs into balconies with sm lean-to on each, & one larger free standing. That should take care my winter blues & keep me happy! Now. If I could actually get that soggy basement water proffed, I could make a hidden grow room down there too! :) :) :)

Well, no tree, but a pic of a photograph. Tells me to pull pic from my comuter. So back to my original plan of hitting up my friends kids to helpme out from their computer. I'll use my Nikon & cell ph to see which is the easiest to work from. If we can get a deal going, I'll be posting pics sporadically, but hopefully a lot of them! Last career I had was photographer, AA degree. I have a few degrees floating around in my subjects of intrest. Nikon has awesome optics, but I'll go which ever way is easiest for the kids. Haven't had my hands on a computer fror 6-7 yrs, but I guess just popping camera card into computer is still as easy as it used to be! LOL! (Kids just won't let anybody else touch their computer).
-- Ranger, cats are awesome in so many ways. I've always been into shamanism & I believe in the psychic connection between us & the animals who love us & I strongly believe cats have awesome psychic healing abilities. Cats are the best anti depressants. Tigger tried to be my foot warmer last night, but all he did, (at 38 lbs) is put my legs to sleep! Sam shares my pillow & keeps a paw on my face. If I snore, he sticks it in my mouth! Sam likes to play catch. Literally! He likes newspaper balls, & will stand on his hind legs & catch them between his paws. He's so cute & smart!
-- Got my lights yesterday, but then was too sick to finish cabinet & hang them. For some reason, couldn't stop tossing my cookies. Rained all day, so I couldn't go out & cut the rest of the lumber, but I did find out yesterday that somebody stole most of it. Out of 30 boards, I have 6. They took all the good ones & left the knotty split ones. I didn't buy groceries & went without food to buy this shit. Some day I'll end up in jail for killing me a thief. I think there should be a reward system. Shoot a thief, get a $100.00 gift card!
-- My babies are looking so pretty, but Ranger, if I had 1" of growth per day, that would give me 14 sets of leaves at two wks old, because I keep the internodes less than 1/2" apart. Try to keep them under 2 1/2' at finish. I keep veg growth short & stocky & let them have their way & do their stretching in flower. I'll be topping them twice before 12/12, putting them in flower as soon as the second set of leaves come on the second pinch. Then one last full strength nitrogen feeding, pull the lights up a bit (untill this point, they're REALLY close to prevent long nodes, like 1-2"), & let 'em go crazy. This keeps stems strong & fat, lots of foliage for photosynthesis, & letting them stretch later when budding keeps the buds above the heavier foliage to get the light better. That's something I picked up in commercial greenhouses with flowering bedding plants. Works well with roses. Keep the plants short & bushy, but then let the flower stems stretch for cut flowers. Just a little cross-over from back in those days. After my buds stretch a little, I lower the light a tad untill they plump & then switch out to warm lighting to boost trichromes & ripen. Keeping lighting cool for a while keeps buds from being light & fluffy under fluorescents. Ahhh, can't wait for an outdoor grow. Once a year I do like to grow those big assed monsters! :) :) :)

Think your right on plant size, keep thinking all grow the same, but each to his or her own. From seed it does seem to take a while to really get going, and from my clones it takes 2 weeks before their potted and ready to take off. So about a month of veg.

They will get topped twice, & have about 18"-20" before they outgrow their space, but I really wanted them in the new cabinet a day or two after the second pinch, you know, out from under the old T8's & under the new T5's. Cabinet still not finished, everything is out of the back room piled in the kitchen & living room untill it is so I'm STUCK that way for about another week. Yeah... I have the damned FLU! Thought denying it would make it go away but it just didn't work. 74º in here, my temp 101º & I feel like I'm freezing to death. We're having snow, then snow mix, then sleet & back to snow. Not trying to electrocute myself, but as soon as I feel better, I'll have to go outside & cut the rest of my lumber for this cabinet to keep this grow on schedule & the long term weather forecast isn't working with me on that. The way these babies have grown in the last two days, well they're not working with me either!
-- Ranger, I'm so sorry about the freeze! All the way to flower. What shitty timing! I'd have had me a little hissy fit, then I would have had to apologize to everybody for telling them how stupid they were for not double checking everything before the closed up for the night. They were only trying to help & accidents happen. Hope you handled it better than I would have. I'm not very patient with people in those circumstances. Hope you have enough left from last harvest to tide you over to the next one. At least having some clones will speed it up a little for you.
-- I just found a new hybrid I want to try. Its SO pretty! Its called pink salad (pink bud x fruit salad). Suposed to be a dwarf plant with a couch lock high, indica. But you like those big girls, don't you? So have you seen anything new you want to try out? :) :) :)

Checked that weather forecast again. Ugh! So I went ahead & topped the babies. Might end up topping 3 X's instead of two. What ever it takes to keep them from out growing their space. Should have taken another pic first, but I didn't. They'll be nice little bushes. Already starting to side branch on their own. Now they'll look like short little fat sumo wrestlers for sure! :) :) :)

Looked at that weather forecast again.....so I want ahead & topped the babies. Guess I'll be topping this grow 3 X's instead of just 2. They were already starting to side branch, so they'll be little fat sumo wrestlers for sure. I really shouldn't have started the seeds untill everything was ready for them, just wasn't expecting any hold ups. Now the worse that could happen is I end up having to flower them under these old T8's, no room to add the CFL's. I'd still have something smokeable, but it would be fluff. But I can see myself out in the rain/snow cutting the rest of the lumber before I'd let that happen! So if I'm seen around town with my hair fried, you'll know I was a little too wet when I plugged in the saw! Haha! :) :) :)

Me, like I like to say, feeling fine and no problems. Hate to lose a run but shit happens. The poor puppy dog look when they came in to tell me made it almost worth while, their a couple of kids that use the latest and greatest(reason for the new light).
Was able to send a taste of cali home this fall, so am actually kinda flush for a change.
Just a thought but may be at this stage, just being able to control the dark. I have done that during a rebuild in a cardboard freezer box for couple of weeks.
Careful with that flu, it can get wicked if you let it, my cure, hot tub and hot tea/tang..
Take care

Ahhh... hot tea & a hot soak always cures what ailes you! 5 days into this flu business & its still kicking my butt. Seems to take longer to get over it every year. My dr told me two weeks. Two wks! Is she nuts!? I can't handle that. There's too much to do! Patience is NOT one of my virtues!
-- The fever must have caused the panic over not having the cabinet ready, I knew it wouldn't be finished till the first of the year because I can't get the rest of the electrical stuff to even plug in the new lights till then! I'll blame it on the fever, otherwise I'd have to admit to being the crazy cat lady! LOL!
-- I'm expecting to have to put them in 12/12 a wk or two before the cabinet is ready. The worse that can happen? A little stretch. As close as these internodes are, its no big deal.
-- I discovered photobucket! I still haven't gotten this just right yet. When I put the link in a post, I can't get the entire address blue, so clicking on it only uses part of the address, which makes it not work. Ah, Capt, the problem is I don't have a computer anymore, & my friends are so busy with the holidays, I have to wait till after xmas to get to one, but I'll get there, eventually. .....
-- these babies are getting too fat! Since I topped them the other day, they're really beefing up. Today I had to spread them out because they were starting to crowd each other. If I have to slide them apart any farther, they won't be completely under the light. God I hope they're not all female! 10 would be too many, even in the new (but not quite ready) space. Thinking of putting them in flower in about 5 more days, or there about, just because if I don't they'll out grow my space. As wide as it seems they'll get, I can comfortably fit 4-6 females. If I end up with more, I'll just have to flower the extras under the T8's (or prune the hell out of them & keep them in veg as mothers)
-- Tomorrows suposed to be a little milder, so I'm hoping to get the cabinet finished. Still have a slight fever, but I'll deal with it as long as its as warm as they say. If I don't finish, there's a few more even warmer days in the forecast. I do have till the first of next month, since I still have some purchases to make to actually use it. Once I get all my construction finished, following grows will fall in place, no more 'hurry up & wait'. Not a fan of winter! :) :) :)

Five more days, you have said you fill the cabinet, it should be packed(always something, to few to many). But with to many you can pick and choose. Wish you were ready to clone, take a couple off the bottom of each before you switch. The cab growers here put on quite a show so I quess topping can be your friend. But being a lousy trimmer I like chunky.
Shovel, to be able to grow near a good field of good dirt, gives you a nice start, and being able to finish says something about friends and neighbors, love the chunk.

Cat every time I read something of yours, I smile allot. My own little bud is a mini rat terrier, loves to eat pot(not as much as the Danes on the mountain) he won't steal your whole bag, just what you might drop. Two summers ago had major attack on my chicken population, while talking it over my neighbor lady, a red hawk flew between us, ten feet apart, and rolled one of her hens.
So bud springs into action, creates enough havoc that the hen is released(looked like an arrow shot at her chicken house). And the hawk gets his two steps and is in the air. But it's like he finally sees the problem and is now pissed and dives at my dog. Bud runs behind me, protection I suppose. I'm in full camo as usual, the hawk is focused on the dog behind me. A full grown red tail, mad, talons and wings at full spread looks impressive, ten feet away head high. But he's looking behind me.
As he turns to leave, bud runs out for the get the fuck out of here, and the bird turns around, and bud is back behind me. Occurred three times before hawk gave up or decided I wasn't a bush.
Still think we got to get you to a nicer place, I'll swear your waist deep in bull shit, and not the good kind. Hope you've had some good time to get some work done. The ladies March to their own drummer even thou you might control the beat.

Oh red tailed hawks are a pain in the ass! I nearly had a fist fight with one. She brought her fledglings to my bird feeders to teach them to hunt! I flipped out the day she got my humming birds! Had a blaster nozel on my garden hose & kept blasting her down to the ground, then I thrashed her good with the newspaper! I've hated those birds since one got my kitten. We have a field out back with two ponds. Always full of field mice & voles. Red tails would be appreciated out there, but NOT at my bird feeders! I try to keep them chased off.
-- That bitch next door..humm.... She doesn't realize that a person with nothing to loose is very dangerous. She keeps calling the county, trying to have me put out of my home because she wants the property, FOR FREE. Should she succeed in making me homeless, she will cease to exist. I've already promised myself that.
-- Little dogs are funny! That buzzard really took the wind out of his sails! He hasn't challenged anything since! I still laugh when I think about that. ;)
-- I'll probably start 12/12 still in the closet. I still will have to wait till the first to get the heavy duty cord to run the cabinet with. The heaviest I can find is 12 gauge. Hoping my electrician can get me bigger, like maybe 9 gauge. If not bigger than 12, may as well pick one up myself at home depot.
-- Shovel, glad to hear they make chunky buds, they sure are chunky little fat plants! Was thinking about growing a couple in pots & hiding them in some flowers to get full sun next summer. They seem to be heavy drinkers. Been sucking my pots dry in no time flat, so I'd have to check them often outside. What do you think? Worth a try? BTW, when I topped them, one put out 4 branches instead of the normal 2. Hope its female. That would be one hell of a producer! I posted 2 more pics on photobucket tonight. Theyre 4 wks old today. :) :) :)

I like them for outdoor grow too.
12 gauge is fine, for a 20 amp circuit, which seems like plenty, plenty robust enough for your cabinet grow. How long does this cord have to be? Try and keep it as short as possible. I have been a licensed master electrician since 1973. Yut. IBEW.
I would agree with TLR. You are living in a place I would leave yesterday, If I could. Gee willikers, it sounds bad news!

Ok, don't know the amps on any of this stuff, but totaled the wattage, rounding up to the highest #. 650 watts. + whatever the timer is (less than 10). I even threw in an extra cfl (20watts), just incase I decide to use it. 100' cord, having 8'-10' extra to curl loosley behind stuff. Think what my electrician had in mind was shortening the cord to only the needed length. Have 2 100' cords ran to the camper now, 2 heaters, one on ea cord, never higher than med setting, other sm wattage stuff that I only use one at a time. Always feeling cords, they never even get warm. Grow closet & sm fridge (not self defrosting), low watt, aren't running on same cord to try & distribute power evenly between the 2 cords. My electrician says I'm more than safe, what do you think?
-- Yeah, home issues are strange & unusual. Its not just my neighbor either. Since there's no electric to the house (outdoor breaker box now running everything), there's no running water, so I have an old fashioned pitcher pump in the spring. Nearly everything is manual, old fashioned & bare basics. I use more camping gear than I do normal household items. My parents grew up in the wilderness, dad taught me everything he knew from that + what he learned in the army. But that's because its what I wanted to know & spent 2-3 days a week camping in the woods by choice. That really pissed off my mother, who'd insisted dad move her out of the wilderness to raise a civilized child! She spent the last half of her life trying to make me into a sissy. Thank god it didn't work. My survival skills are why I can live like this without missing a beat. I don't stay here just for sentimental reasons. My spring water is perfect, slightly acidic & soft. Perfect for plants & never needing treatment for fish. The soil was already naturally rich & organic, but has had about 40 yrears of being top dressed with compost & manure every fall, 2-4". I'd never find that again anywhere. In 2 yrs, I'll be eligible for home grants through the dept of the ageing, do as much repair as I can through them, then apply for reverse mortgage. House will be renovated & everything brought up to par. The soil & water here make it worth the wait.
-- Damned! I'm REALLY long winded! (Not telling you anything you didn't already know)! Haha! :) :) :)

Yeah, well it helps if you can keep the ability to laugh at yourself, like today.............................
-- Today was warm, but raining (in the 50's). Not playing with electricity in the rain. Wanted to work on the cabinet, & the only piece of lumber measured & cut was the 5' board to be mounted to the ceiling for attaching my lights. Ok, pre drilled holes, put screws in till flush with back of board, slathered back of wood with gorilla wood glue, holding board in place with one hand, drill in the other, & my nose starts itching & running. Well I have to wipe it, right? Anyway, I dropped the damned board on my head, have glue in my hair & a screw hole in my scalp. Then I noticed I still had the drill in my hand.......yep, I let go of the wrong thing!! When I saw that drill in my hand, I sat down & laughed my ass off. Both cats looked at each other, looked at me & RAN LIKE HELL! What do you have when you've got the the three stooges minus one? Hummmm....
-- Well the babies look great. I had to tuck some leaves first one place & then another to get light to all the new growth. Getting crowded, no room to scoot them apart. Thank god there's only about a week to go to have them in the cabinet! Much wider than they are tall. So how do you like your ladies, short & fat or tall & lean? LOL! :) :) :) ;)

Well Shov, not exactly. Side branching coming in OVERLY dense. They are so dense its obsene. Branches haven't reached much length yet because of extremely close internodes (just raised lights this am because I want a little stretch to get some light & air). Heavy pruning will be necessary. At this point, they're so dense, there can't be enough air flow & that will leave them prone to fungus diseases if I don't prune pretty heavy. They almost don't look like pot plants. While its impressive as hell to look at, looser plants just don't invite disease like really super dense ones do. They'll be 5wks old Christmas day. I'll be taking pics before & after I prune. This first pruning will just be removing the sunleaves, not touching anything on the branches yet. I usually don't advocate removing sunleaves, but there's PLENTY foliage on the branches, & that will give me better light & air flow to the center of the plants. Compared to yours, mine are shorter, much denser. You can't even see a stem at all. Being sunlovers, most strains I've grown like the fluors 2-3" from the tops, still giving me more internode space than these. What that tells me is they will do quite well outdoors in the partly shaded places I have to hide them. From now on, I'll be keeping the lights 4-6" with these guys.
-- I remember you telling me (I think in you outddor grow log , 2013) that you had a couple under a tree & lost some yield because of it. Try these guys there. They certainly seem to have lower light requirements than anything else I've ever grown! Maybe even increase your number of outdoor plants by putting more of these girls out among shurbs & such. ;) (forgot to mention, these guys are still under T8' in my shoplight! That combined with tight internodes scream lower light needs!) Reads like stealth garden plants to me.....
-- Ranger, I was only kidding about laying them on their side, because I have more vertical space than horizontal, & these guys are VERY horizontal! How's things going after the freeze? Hope you're catching up. I had a little mini rat terrier named Jack who looked almost identical to your Buddy. Smart breed & VERY easy to train. I miss my little man. He was 17. How are you feeling? I know it's slow getting your energy back after something like what you went through, & hard to get friends & family to back off & give you some space. They tend to hover, don't they? You kinda have to remind yourself its because they worry something might happen when no one's around to help you. Hard not to bite their heads off when they hover too much, huh?

I can email pics, send pics in text mess, but just can't figure out how to post them to a forum. This Wed, Ill take 2 sets of pics, one group before, next group after pruning. Really have to pop off the sunleaves for light & air. Close internodes & big WIDE indica leaves have them way too dense. Side branches plenty leafy enough for photosynthesis & energy production. I never remove any sunleaves unless I've reached that point.
-- Meds. A necessary evil. On on hand, they save our lives. On the other hand, our bodies have ways of telling us they don't like them! I wish I had my grandmas knowledge of herbal medicine. She had herbal remidies that could do the job of every synthetically made med there is, & do it in a healthy way without our bodies protesting! Not saying our tastebuds wouldn't protest though! (Never had a good tasting tincture!) Can't exactly say none were narcotic, because herbally speaking, many of them are, but even then, when its natural our bodies metabolize them easier & differently. If she were still around, she would give you a tonic that would revitalize your energy pretty quick. Really nasty taste though! ;) :) :)

catbuds
12-23-2013, 10:16 PM
Yeah, that run's a little squatter & denser, but why are the leaves on mine so much widder? They're a little more than twice as wide as my thumb. Remember, mine are (BG X BB) X BG, not BB X BG. Guess BG is more indica, so there's a tad more sativa in yours? Well what ever the reason, hope they ONLY stay squat for a while. I actually need them to stretch in bud, & I usually try to hold that back. Its very true that nearly every variety requires a different technique. Next time I know to raise the light a little to get some stretch in veg. They honestly look more like pruned mounds of ivy than pot. Short wide overlapping leaves. I keep saying how wide the leaves are, but they're also the SHORTEST leaves I've ever had! Usually (but not always), the growth form will indicate the bud form. If that holds true, these will make short DENSE hefty buds.
-- Have you grown out any of the beans from the back cross to BG that I have? I'm definitely starting to see two distinct phenos. Three of them are developing more internode spacing, & have longer leaves, 6 of the remaing 7 all look alike, while one is lighter, brighter green with even wider, shorter leaves. Guess that really makes 3 phenos. I'm thinking about inbreeding these for a while to stabilize, but keeping the phenos seperate, & breeding them like 2 seperate strains. I'd almost bet the 3 with more stretch will be more BB, while the squater ones more like BG, & would become even more so once seperated & inbred for a while. I'd really like your feed back on some of this, & if you'd be interested in continuing this conversation, maybe we should take it to MNS PM. I was even thinking once seperate & stable, doing a BB one to blueberry kush. Love BB & LOVE kush (old school hindu kush to be exact). Ummm, doesn't that sound good enough to eat!?!? Yeah! Did u raise the lights a little for some stretch, or just rely on pruning? Judging by the form of the plant, I'd guess they are also resinous as hell. ...?
-- Since I love the hell out of BBnugs, I've been reading up on every BB I could find in the seed banks & was a little suprised at the percentage of sativa in its genetics (can't remember % off hand). Looking at the color & trichs, I'd have guessed a LOT more indica lurking in those genes! ;) ;) ;)

-- About kush...... I'm not all that happy with what I've found in the seed banks. Pure hindu kush is a landrace & sister to afghani. PURE INDICAS. But what I've found in the s banks ISN'T pure kush & always seems to have some percentage of sativa (lemon K, strawberry K, & everybody else's kush). Why is it so damned hard to find a pure kush? Shovelhandle those plants look beautiful. I have 4 young plants that I grew from seed given to me by a local "breeder". He claims the seeds were produced by crossing a female Lemon Haze with a male Lemon Skunk. From what I can tell, both of those lines are Sativa dominant. But these little plants have very short, broad leaves. I would love to post a pic for you guys to comment on, but I don't want to threadjack, so I may start a new thread to discuss it.

Hey Ranger! Here's one for ya! (Its on my FB) I have a Jack ass Russles who thinks the little pink ring under the cats tail is a nose warmer! ;) ;) ;)
Bud thinks so too, even thou all three cats are bigger than he is, he can sneak up on them, and get a sniff.
They will jump his ass if he's not playing attention thou. Like little lions. The big Tom cat is good at hunting from on high.

Thanks Ranger, Merry Christmas! Christmas is just gonna be a work my butt off day. Trimming plants, putting more reflective material in the closet, taking more measurements. Working on getting my order ready for amazon.com. Stuff I needed to finish up, walmart/home depot prices for all those little things was $125.00+, found on amazon for under $50.00. & THAT makes me a happy shopper! (God I HATE shopping! Great to sit on my bum & do it on line!) Plants are so ugly when they're first trimmed. They won't be pretty again for another week. Was going to take before & after pics on trim day, but I think I'll forego the afters untill they grow into it. Don't want to document ugly! LOL! Very bottom leaves turning yellow & dying from lack of light & air. No big deal, they were coming off in the trim anyway, but its a big indicator of how bad they really need this trim. Can not see a stem anywhere because of the density, not even on the big sunleaves, so you know air & light can't penetrate. Letting some lower branches stay & grow out a little for clones, but this time I raising the lights higher to make them stretch out a little. Raised it some yesterday morning to see if I can get some upward stretch. That should help get some length on those lowers I want to clone. These guys certainly don't need the light intensity I'm used to giving plants in veg. That was a surprise that caught me off guard! Certainly couldn't use any of these for xmas trees! So short & WIDE, they look like gruond cover. Short wide leaves look like ivy!
-- So, now that I've seen their growth pattern, next grow with these guys (hopefully clones), will be to raise the lights, top a lot & 12/12 @ 4wks. That will solve the horizontal space problem, & I won't have to hold them back. Trying to hold them back didn't slow down leaf production, only shortened the internodes & made them even wider, adding to the horizontal problem. So the second grow with these will be at maximum production. Goal is, clones for indoors, seeds for outdoors. :)

Ok... I haven't had a buzz since early summer. Bummer. So I decided to trim tonight instead of tomorrow. Nearly a wet oz of leaf drying on the heater because .....YES! I'M GONNA SMOKE IT!!!! Yep. I'm so flat out broke I'm smoking leaf for Christmas. As long as it's been, bet it gets me high.
-- God are these plants ugly now. Looks like a bunch of little boys with their first ugly hair cuts! (Remember those guys? You know you all had them! LOL!) Still plenty of leaf for photosynthesis, all the big sunleaves are off & topped them again. Opened them up good, but I put a longer board under them so I could spread them out more too. As fast as these guys like to grow, by next week they won't have that just pruned look & should be pretty again. Less leaf for transpiration, so they shouldn't need water every day for a while. I mean I'd water them one morning & they would be BONE dry the next. More air, light & room, they should be happy! MERRY CHRISTMAS GUYS! Burn a big one & think of me! ;) ;) ;)

I got work done xmas day, first time in a while I finished all my tasks on the list. ;) Hoping to do as well today. New growth doing well on the plants, though not as fast as I expected. Taking the sun leaves slowed growth a little. In my space, that's a good thing! Since I've given them a bit more room & raised the lights a little, once growth resumes, it should really take off again, which is fine, cause the cabinet will be running before they outgrow the space again. I'd added nearly 2' more length when I put the longer board under them. Hopefully taking 2 clones ea from them just before putting them in the flowering cabinet, so the extra 2' will make enough room for them. I will be pruning these for a single cola. Should make fat ones, despite the fact that timing will make me have to start 12/12 in the veg closet for the clones. I'll be cloning before I sex them, so I expect to pull a few males, grab the pollen from the best one, & maybe keeping aside a cloning mother. Time will tell. :) :) :)

He even started carrying my favorite commercial mix that I use for a base, pro-mix, so now I'll never again have miracle gro anywhere on my property! Pro mix standard, pH adjusted spaghnum moss & perlite. Pro mix organic is awesome, comparable to happy frog, cheaper! :):stoned:

Leaf material makes AMAZING tincture made the same way as green dragon with the following exceptions :
Decarb it for an hour after it is dried in a closed container - them let cool while still covered.
Cook it in 100 proof ( or highest you can get) for about 8 hours keeping it under 150 degrees in a wet bath- yes I have had to stop and restart this process and it was no issue.
This gives you appx. 2 ounces of a dark green liquid that a couple of droppers gives you the body buzz - the one that has the most impact on physical pain. I use a few droppers every few hours - this tincture lasts until it's time to trim again and is also the BEST anti inflammatory I have ever used…tastes good too - did you know that prepared properly cannabis leaves actually taste like perfume?

Ranger, actually I have written a couple books. The best one was called Mother of the wolves, back in the early 80's. Made me about $15, 000 which wasn't bad back then. Not for an unknown author. I'd write letters to 'ask Ed', & about 40-50% would be published as articles. I think I'd received everything free they had to offer to people who submitted stuff. I had all the Ed &Frank books. Wore my High Times t-shirt so long, you could read the paper through it! High Times hasn't been the same since Ed Rosental left. Canceled my subscription. I did get the one a few years back that had the announcement of Chef Ra's death. That was so sad. I really liked him!
-- either my tolerance is really low, or these are the best leaves I've ever smoked. Three days of smoking them & I'm still getting high as a kite! Kinda sweet tasting for leaf. No harshness or bitterness. Thats telling me I should get some really sweet bud! God I can't wait! Hoping they need one more good trimming before budding kicks into overdrive. As fast as they branch & beef, I'm hoping that's an indication they flower the same way; fat, dence & fast! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Rain, rain, rain. All day long. If I see anymore phreaking rain, I'll turn into a dead phucking phish & phloat away! (Carried away with the ph's? Before retiring as a photog, my studio name was 'Photo Phantasy'). LOL! Plants looking good. Still haven't picked up the speed they had before thinning, but it picks up a bit more every day. Three of them must be male. Phenomenal stem stretch as soon as they were pruned (males often do that, sometimes not so noticeably). I've also noticed with some strains, males often do this just before pre-flower. Nice strong thick stems, so breeders regardless of sex. After giving them their first feeding at recommended strength (been going 1/2 strength half as often as recommended), I saw a touch of nute burn. Just a touch, so no biggie. I did a plain water flush stopping it in its tracks. It only showed slightly on two leaves of two plants. Transplanting in a day or two. I'm sure growth speed will kick in big time shortly there after.
-- On marijuana strains, 'Unknown Philippine strain' is a pic of the most pure sativa I've ever seen. I'm betting its a Philippine landrace, or VERY old import. Guy wants help identifying it, so it would be great if some of you sativa lovers would hop over & take a look! :) :) :)

Giggletwig, don't stay away so long! New friends on the forum I think you'd find interesting! We've been using an old thread by a banned person as a chat room. Its here on grow logs, thread, THENEWGROW, so come on over & hang out with us! It seems to be ok with the mods that we're doing this, they haven't said anything, but it could be because most of the ones using the thread this way have been 'badgering' them to give us PMs or a chat room! Lol! Not only that, we keep it clean & have no discussions of taboo topics per forum rules. Our conversations are pretty educational. Chromophore is a bio-engineer, working with plants, their trichromes & terpinoids (legal ones) in a high tech lab setting. I like asking him leading questions & putting him on the spot to talk more about his fascinating work! Yeah, I'm bad! This is his first grow, but he has a natural green thumb & much scientific plant knowledge. His plants are awesome! I teased the shit out of him after his first post! His problem was just the opposite of most new growers.... it was like, help me! I'm running out of ceiling & they won't slow down! I think he was a born grower just waiting to happen. You'll like him. You'll like OMB too. He's another natural. Sweet, happy & friendly & it shows in his plants, cause they're happy too!
-- Glad to see you're interested in RSO. I'll be trying my hand at making my own after next seasons out door crop, since my indoor will always be sm, just keeping me in supply from one harvest to the next. After what you've been through with your health, you should have been on RSO from the start. I've read many wonderful testimonials about it saving peoples lives. Hey Catbuds! Had so much fun reading this topic. Loved the part where you beat the bad catnapper/killer guy up and ran over his legs. And you've been a writer, a photographer, and are purely amazing, far as I can see. :) I hope your luck changes with the new year and your troubles are put behind you. Get another shotgun - sounds like you need it with all those thieves.
I'm still around but been busy doing my annual xmas freaking out. I go to pieces this time of year. Very stressful, very difficult. Much toking going on. It's getting better now that it's all over.
My plants are looking amazing. Waited for the clones to catch up some before putting them all into bloom and now my Tangerine Dream (mostly sativa) is over 6 feet tall! I've had to bend it over and tie it so I can keep the lights at a normal level. This grow has been an interesting experimental lot. The Blue Cheese plants are lush, bushy and strong plants. They have numerous buds and I can't wait to try them.
I need a reason to grow more plants, so I'm going to try making RSO, as you saw in my post to GrowGoddess. When I harvest my current batch, I probably wouldn't need to grow for another year, and that just won't do! I love growing them! It gives me something to do. Wish I was in a legal state where I could grow meds for people who need it.
How are you and the cats and little plants doing?

I guess everybody has noticed the males usually stretch above the females. This is a survival thing in nature to make sure the pollen falls on the female to perpetuate the the species & not get wasted. So it seems I may have 5 males, two possible blueberry type phenos (which could be either sex) & 3 females. If I'm right, as soon as they sex, the females will go back in veg for a couple weeks & I'll grow them bigger than first planned. Then re veg my best girl for a clone mother, but start another batch of seeds 4 wks befor harvest. Of course I'll save pollen from best male for seeds for this coming outdoor crop. Trying to always have something in flower.
-- Yeah Giggletwig, I've been a lot of things. Too many intrests to pick just one & sacrifice the others. ;) . It made life fun, but didn't prepare me for my 'golden years'. But things would have been better financially if I hadn't ended up on a small disability check after being smoshed by a dump truck at 40. Didn't plan for the future. Thought I'd just keep going forever. Aceing every college, thought I'd be a millionaire. Boy was I ever disappointed!
-- Kicky cats & smooch pooch fat & spoiled. Took some weight off Tigger, but it came back with a vengeance! Now he even has fat rolls on his face! Poor cat has a triple chin! Sam squalls all the time now cause he can't make Tigger play. But he will settle for pissing him off! Then Tigger will chase him to try & whip his ass, & Sam will turn & jump completely over Tigg. That being said and very true, sometimes there's that little one that you keep around because it's got to be a female cause it's so small, after the rest cover it and your not paying close attention(or can't see it well, or is a volunteer at the base of some female) and bang little f+#king male and lots of seeds.

-- So right! The sm one I have now is sm because Sam ate the sun leaves off when the new branches were tiny still, & didn't have any leaves mature enough to make energy for much growth. It sat there & took a while to start growth again. I'm thinking IF its female, this stress could cause it to hermie. This may be the one I end up chucking. Dont see it as a great loss since I'm hurting for space, but it was the widest, most indica leafed one of them all, & the shortest stockiest from the begining. I'm still hoping its female & doesn't hermie. It was the one I wanted to pollinate because of its heavy indica traits. Since some stretched so fast, I've been giving them all a close look 3-4 X's a day, expecting pre-flowers soon, so it would be darned near impossible for a male to blow his stuff all over any females. Now once they're too big for me to sit in the floor with the pots in my lap for closer observation, that would be the time time a hermie could get me. Think I already put this in a post, but since I'm now expecting less than 50% female, I'm going to let them get bigger than first planned. In the future, planting less seeds & going back to doing the ethylene gas thing, only omitting the ethylene when I need pollen. Since it freezes well, I expect that to be about every third grow.
-- They just went from coffee cups to party cups. Remember, I was doing the root constriction to TRY & slow growth. Was planning on not going bigger than 1/2 gal for that purpose, but fewer plants, so as soon as I sex them, the females are going into 1 gal pots. What this would normally do is, as soon as the new roots hit the sids of the pot, is EXPLODE in bud growth ( just like they explode in plant growth when in veg). Since I'm stepping up drastically in size, that should also drastically increase bud size. I'm speaking from personal experience with my own strain I had grown for years, but sometimes sticking with one variety so long just gets you stuck in a rut. These guys have such a different growth habit that my little tricks may not have the same effect.
-- Just four days ago, I'd posted that they still weren't growing as fast as before the pruning. Well now I have to take that back. They've grown about 2" since yesterday & are crowded again! As soon as I'm done posting, I'll be going in to raise the lights again. I saw two crumpled leaves actually growing into & vining around the tubes. I turned them so they weren't touching & they've already started straightening out. Theyll be fine since they didn't scorch. Haven't really decided, but I may cull the little one. Would hate to, but I'm needing the space to spread them out a little. Ehhh, Ok... I've talked myself into it. Gonna cull that one! :)

Well I culled 3. The little one & 2 of the ones I thought were probably female. I had NO intentions of letting anyone local know I was growing, but being stupid, I forgot to lock my door & Pat Smith marched his unwelcomed ass right on in & back to where I was tending my plants. Then he had the nerve to TELL me to get rid of the two growing lop-sided (they had grown to fit the shape of the space since they were crowded). Perfectly healthy & most likely female, I threw them in his face. I'm yelling shit at him like who in the hell said you could march your ass into my home without knocking on my fucking door, & at what point in time did I hand you the authority to make decisions about HOW I do WHAT I do!?!? Despite what I just said, he picks up the 2 plants & said he'd take them home & dry & smoke them! I slapped them out of his hands & punched him in his big ugly nose. He starts yelling at me for being a bitch & said I should be grateful he stopped by to see me! Well once I catch somebody stealing from me & kick them off my property, I really don't expect them to come back! & if they do, they need to expect to be treated like shit, because that's all he's ever been in my book anyway! Its only been three months ago I broke his nose with my cane when I caught him slipping my dead fathers pocket knife into his fucking pocket! Other than that, I prefer indica. I need to be laid out for the count once in a while! LOL! Yeah... & indica helps with my anger managment issues! Ha! I hate loosing my temper. Well Ranger, 3 thieves scouted me out over30 yrs ago & haven't left me alone since. Usually having plants & smoke around, always paraphernalia & grow supplies, I can't call the cops on these ass holes & they know it. At one time we were friends, in our teens untill 20 something. I don't loose my temper very often, but when I do I scare people, myself included. Kinda like putting a lid on a boiling pot of water. I'm really afraid of spending the last years of my life in prison. I've had boxing, a little judo & kenpo karate. My cane can become a wepon real quick, & if I fall, just grab them & take them down with me. You never forget how to fight, just find ways to do it differently.
-- Two of the three plants I culled, well I really had no intentions of doing that. They got a little busted up when I threw them in assholes face. I think I'm even more pissed at myself for killing those two plants than I am about numbnuts coming into my home like that. One of the reasons I'm in such a hurry for legalization is so I can call the cops on these ass wipes without going to jail my damned self! I hate drama. All I want is peace & quiet & no damned thieves.
-- plants are crowded again. That quick. Looking great though. After that pruning, the growth habit has become more like what I'm used to, up & out equally, not just out like fat little vines. All that time I kept worrying about them growing into the lights & here they grow outward! Next grow, think I'll mainline some plants from seed & put some clones straight into 12/12, no pruning, just a single cola. With the right timing, that should keep them about the same height for the lights. Mainline to four branches (4colas), have the clones a little ahead, & hopefully they will grow at the same speed, keeping them similar in height. That should maximize yield in my sm spaces. Then too, I can decide which yields best for my cabinet, mainlining or cloning for sea of green (big single colas). I'm really looking forward to my outdoor grow. Was looking at sword canes a while back, decided against, but found a weaponized version, high strength resin(airport safe), and mean all the way down to its pointy end.
When you go outside, will you wait to plant there?

Holy shit! I can't believe my crappy luck! The last few items from my amazon order were returned to amazon by the damned ups driver! He claims its a wrong address & no one lives here! They've delivered here for the past few days! What's with this one driver? Does he think that people with shity houses shouldn't get packages!?!?UPS can't retrieve it& once it goes back to amazon, they won't re-ship, I have to wait for the money to redeposit to my account & order it again! Now I might not get the shit for 2 weeks! I needed theses things like 2 weeks ago to finish the cabinet!!!! This is even worse than having nothing but stale cornbread for Christmas dinner. I'm pissed! :(
Damn...that sucks Catbuds. Damn driver makes the mistake and YOU have to "pay" for it. Unbelievable....UPS should be on the hook for this, but we all know what happens when the little guy challenges some corporate entity.

What pisses me off the most is, the email said they make 3 delivery attempts before returning, & here's a 1-800# to call if you would like to give more explicit delivery instructions. They didn't make 3 attempts, & I just called the number to give instructions (to bring to camper, not house), but they sent it back because the driver said NOBODY lives THERE! They just made deliveries here fri & sat. Not a damned thing has changed mon! I'm pissed & have no pot. Hope nobody fucks with me for a while.....

Left me a notice to p/u at p.o. The only way I can do that is a $30.00 cab ride. I got the damned heater on amazon because it was $14.00 cheaper than walmart, even including s&h. Now its 7ºF outside, & only 63ºF in here with the heater on high. It will be even colder by 6a.m.& I need that extra heater. I'm just screwed coming & going. (I don't even HAVE $30.0 if I WANTED to spend it on a cab). I need to deflate somehow..........
Wow....sorry Mama Catbuds, and I tend to get a little cranky when I'm out too. :wtf: I wish I could help you out, but I can't shove a bud through this computer screen no matter how hard I try damnit! I hope things get better for you, you are due for some luck. :D

Cat - you must have heat - now if you have two clay or ceramic flower pots and a candle ( you are a farmer right?) put the candle in one and use the other as a cover- it will intensify the heat and actually heat a small area up to close to 80 degrees - I have used 3-4 in a room when the power went out in very cold temps.
About the thief- I already got warned and I bet if I told you how I would plan to have him taken away I would get banned and I kinda like this forum - but it would include cleaning your space up all legal- then leaving your door open- and Burnt Toast I really didn't say anything incriminating did this time did I ?
The roots - clean them and cook them in coconut oil for about 24 hours til they are black- then cool the oil and use it as lotion anywhere your body hurts- it really is strange how it helps - and it's warming too….

Ranger, the flower pots warm up & give off radiant heat & the candle burns slower & last longer. I was stuck in a snow bank during a blizzard back in the 70's. Had emergency candles in the glove box with a tin coffee can. Was working at a florist at the time & had a shit load of clay pots in the back of my car. I was stuck there for 2 days, heating with the candle in the can, covered with an inverted clay pot. It works!
-- Shovel, I called & got the run around. All the woman on the other end of the phone wanted to do was defend the mail carriers decision not to leave the package. So they sent a paper for me to fill out & maybe she will reattempt delivery next week, or tell me to come pick it up. So I'll get the damned thing once it warms up. I don't know what I've done, but I've aquired some really bad karma.
-- Chromophore, I've been forgiven & am being squashed as we speak! 38 lbs of fat cat on my feet & my legs are numb! I've ALWAYS hated winter! Days around 75-80º, nights about 65º. That's as cold as it ever needs to be for me! This artic vortex has broken records on low temps everyday for a week. Down to 0º? Us? Here in Md? That's crazy cold! Back up into the 50's this weekend. I get ear aches when it fluctuates that much. Yeah Crystal, any ear ache drop recepies? I get them all the time! Oh, & I was heating the grow closet with candles till I ran out. Cool tip!
-- well the plants have all lost their symmetrical shape! Can't believe how much they grew after the pruning! Pruning, root restriction, low on the nitrogen (only when they start to pale). Nothing holds these guys back. Was hoping to finish at around 18"-22", but my biggest 2 are that big now, & the others are close behind! Getting ready to do some bending & tyeing soon! Also figured out why they were so wide & fat, hardly no internodes at all.....I'd pumped up the light? Well I sat down & figured out the lumens per sq ft....1, 400! That's twice the recommended maximum. They were trying to grow away from the lights! I raised the fluors & removed the cfls. Never thought I'd have too many lumens with fluorescents! Suprised I didn't have light bleaching. Not that I'm complaining, but I wonder why? But anyway, they are looking really good, not like fat little mutant ground covers! Yes I do Have a recipe Cat- I have had shingles that attacked my left ear - the nerve, and have pretty bad nerve pain in that ear with the weather, stress and wind too and the root oil actually helps it. I also have some neuropathy in my feet from a birth defect in them and this root oil gives me more relief than anything I have ever tried.
The root oil seems to be the best anti infammatory in the natural world - the Israeli's have been studying it and using it but I had a very difficult time getting any real info it so I have been playing with it. It seems to be pretty particular to nerve pain. Neuropathy's get relief within minutes and it lasts for a few hours, my mom's sciatica even got some relief although it wasn't gone completely it did seem to get to a place where she could walk better. She likes it with a little of the leafy extract cooked down into it ( yes my house looks like a mad scientist experimenting quite a bit )
So try this for your ear - I use a q-tip and put the oil in the actual canal and get relief right away- it lasts until I get back out into the weather again. I used to get this terrible burning that would last for hours - haven't had that since the first application- over 2 months now.
If you get leafy material and make an elixir- add about half and half of elixer and oil - cook on low til the alcohol evaporates, turns the oil green but my mom likes this lotion better, says it helps with more than nerve pain? I'm still trying to figure it out so let me know if you try and how it works. I have started to change the way I do things a little- working to get more roots then I used to so anything you know that makes roots grow please point me in that direction.
I have given this oil out to a few trusted friends and asked them to use and report back - not quite a controlled experiment- but I really just did this to get my own relief, didn't really think I would find something that works so good lol! I have only had one person that said they didn't notice anything, funny thing is- he is the only one on a regular dose of opiates….

Ranger- I didn't really think that the pot would work either but tried it because my little heater went out- I used 4 of these for a room about 10 x 10 and after about an hour that room was toasty at close to 80 degrees! - This is something great to have around your closet- cabinet or grow in the winter in case you lose power- it will keep a place warm enough in an emergency.
Just burning candles warms a place up too - but the pots are a little safer when it comes to fire hazard.

Just wondered.... might have to try making some next harvest.

Ok guys(hope I can say that without offending), I do understand fire. Heated with a Franklin stove for years. Till my heart problem started, heating with wood warms you up several times(cutting, loading, splitting, stacking, even the clean up) then there's the fire. During an ice storm several years ago, lost power for ten days in this new fangled all electric house. Was able to maintain low fifties using several oil burner candles, family headed for town(I went to town to watch super bowl).
But the idea of intensifying heat with a clay pot still mystifies me. Btu's in Btu's out - conservation of energy, just didn't add up. Better half should me u tube of man calming to have solved energy crisis with candles and clay pots, filed it with perpetual motion(which I know cat claims to have). Quess I must see to believe.
Side note, headquarters(underground), ten days of dark low fifties, like suspended animation no problem.
But I have a good supply of smoke at all times, so my vision can be blurred at times!!

giggletwig- I have read of people ingesting the root extracts and oils and roots themselves- they have lived and said they got benefits- my experience tells me this is where the heavy metals are kept ( as well as all the other components for life of the plant) and that makes me a little edgy….but others have tried it.
I did cook with it once and didn't notice anything… I have done the oil pull technique with this for 3 weeks now ( I gag every time I do it but it does work mysteriously) and I have several little tags on the inside of my cheek that are either gone or almost gone.
I rub it on and within minutes the pain is starting to back down - I use it on my jaw area and behind the ear too - it soaks in pretty quick and does not leave my hair greasy - my hair seems to like it.
Now my partner uses this all over his body & as a hair oil, and he also has used it with the oil pulling technique with no problems - i have noticed that when I put some on a q-tip and let it melt into my ear canal that my sinuses actually react within a few hours- they start draining.
Now I have also totally replaced all of my expensive ( and I do mean expensive the only luxury I really ever afforded myself) face creams with this. I now use this as my sole moisturizer on face and neck and have been for about 1 month- 2 people have told me I look younger… (yay)…it also is helping some sun damage I had on my chest….
As an herbalist I know that the roots are usually the most important part of the plant- I think we are going to find the same with cannabis…..but I do like the effect of the rest of the plant!
yes - the ringing in my ears has been helped - but my hearing has not improved as of yet….hoping it does...

Another thought to keep in mind for healthy root growth; first of all, we tend to give an over abundance of nitrogen, so I feed mostly flowering nutes unless the plant asks for some nitro by just begining to pale. P & K for flowers & stong stems.... & roots! ( I do use growth nutes when in RAPID veg growth, but gently, never MORE than recommended strength). This works for me. My fav for this, & seedlings first few feeds..... fox farms big bloom. Also, my seedlings always have really sturdy stems. No floppy fall overs! When in veg, I do supply a diluted foliar feed of nitro once a week. Just keep in mind that bloom nutes do more than just feed buds. Makes healthy stem & ROOTS too ! (I always give transplants a shot of big bloom because of what it does for root health! ;) ) I never follow the recommended nute program, I tweek a nute here & there according to what the plants tell me. :) :) :)

Catbuds you and I share a love of Big Bloom, that is for sure. And for good reason. I also mix Budswel into my soil during flower. Pretty much the same thing as Big Bloom but slower release. I went on a rant about nitrogen in another thread and I won't repeat it here, but I agree that people tend to overfeed with N, and the big fert. companies feed our addiction with their hot ammonia-based products. Even Grow Big I use at half strength. Good soil doesn't need a lot of added N, anyone who has grown in Ocean Forest or better yet good home-made soil knows that. If a person is willing to put the time into re-potting as the plants grow, the fresh soil will provide all the N they need. I did not feed my plants anything but occ. Big Bloom during veg. and they thrived. Thrived too much in fact.

Chromo, you are so right on! Damned you're a breath of fresh air! I start my seeds in 9 cell pk. (Individual pk from 72 cell inserts for plant trays). First transplant into 8oz styro coffee cups (they 'breathe.... plants love them!). This promotes great seedling growth! From there, they go into red party cups.... you get it. Pot up in very small increments as needed, regardless of what growth stage they're in, & don't disturb the root/soil ball, trying to keep it whole so no feeder/root hair damage. Ofcourse using 1/2 strength big bloom as a transplant tonic ea time, & going up in richness in soil ea time.
-- I used to compost & make all my own orgainc mixes, but age, arthritis & nerve damage kinda limits throwing compost around with a shovel/pitch fork, & then I found FOX FARMS (& of course my old favorite, pro-mix organics, equalivent to happy frog), & I'm more than happy with the change. Costs a lot more, but well worth the expense!

Still have one hanging on off to college in a few years- I was terrified of losing my house through search and seizure.
Should have grown anyway, lost it to foreclosure a few years back with only 15,000 left to go- oh well!
Now things are different, once that first little seed popped I like many became completely fascinated with this plant like no other, the plant literally talks!! More personality then most humans too!
I have always stayed in close circles with the people I knew were growing, but was scared- true freedom really is when you have nothing else to lose and in that freedom I find a peace and happiness that I didn't know was possible.

Yep! No tolerance at all. Haven't smoked bud since late spring/early summer bacause of the thieves. Sometimes I think I can get a buzz just by looking at everybody's pics! But here's what I wanted to share. I put new batteries in my hand held 'scope last night. Had some junk under the canopy that wasn't getting light & heading down hill, so I cleaned up the plants & removed it. Threw it in the trash. Kept 1 leaf to check out under the scope, & it was covered with trichromes (funny thing was, they had no stalk, just sitting on the leaf surface). About 50/50 clear & milky. What suprised me more, was that the leaf stem was covered too, & they were bigger. (So I pulled them out of the trash & laid them out to dry). Here's where I'm going with this. Most people are aware that while in veg, just before they pre flower, male leaf is usually more potent than female. So I'm going to put the heavily trichromed plants on one side, & the ones with fewer on the other, then sit back & wait to see how accurate this is. Certainly don't expect 100% accuracy, but I think it may be close. Just playing with my curiosity. One thing this WILL be useful for is picking your most potent male for breeding. Sure I'm not the only one to do this, its just that I'd never checked out trichromes on any part but the buds before. Well since I'm playing with my little 'scope, think I'll go see if I have parasites! NO NO NO! I'm only kidding, I don't have any slides! LOL! (HELP ME! I'm bored!) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Something strange. I have one plant that just doesn't like as much nutes as the others. I feed a diluted solution when some of the plants just start to pale, & THAT one will get a touch of nute burn. Same size, same root mass, but just doesn't like much nutes. Tonight was the second time I flushed it because of this. Gonna put a tag on it so I know to bypass it on the next feeding & when I finally feed it again, nutes will be diluted down to 1/4 strength. But I'll make it BEG for food first! .......just thought this to be strange, considering they're all the same strain, same batch of seed.

Males stretch above the females to ensure they drop their pollen on them. So I have 4 showing female growth habits, & 3 showing male habits. I'd shit if the one always getting nute burn is my only female! I need to take my glasses & 'scope to the closet & look for pre flowers. Couldn't see any last night with my bare eyes, but hell! I can't see anything else either! I've been looking for preflowers every night, because, yeah..... its about that time.
-- Ranger. The party cups I'm using are translucent & I can see the roots when I first water. They sit in a deep tray & the canopy is dense, so they don't get enough light to grow algae or bother roots. I'm hoping its just a throwback (pheno).
-- I'm getting ready to make coffee & while I wait for that, I'm taking glasses & 'scope back to the grow for a quick closer look. The cold snap made it a tad too cool in the closet. Between that & the drastic pruning I expected them to be held back a little. I need to go back in my logs & find the date they sprouted. I also went from 18 hrs of light to 24. Needed the heat from the lights during that really cold spell. I've never went from 18 hrs in veg UP to 24 before, so I've no idea if this would make them hold off pre flowers. But yeah, need to go back & check date sprouted.

Well lo & behold! One has sexed! Male...... guess which one. The nute burned one! He's in the kitchen now, under the counter light. Just enough light to keep him alive till he gives me some pollen. (Damned! That almost sounds like I'm holding a sex slave for breeding purposes! Once he gives me a baby, its off with his head! Heheheheh)!
-- Checked germination date. Nov 21st. So they'll be 8 wks old in a few days. Ehh, a little slow on sexing, not too bad though. The more I think about it, the more I believe turning the light to 24 hrs ( for their heat) most likely is the major contributing factor to delayed sexing. If I have 3 females = 6 cuttings (the two 'arms' under the 4 main branches for mainlining). Clone them & put them into flower with the 3 mainlined plants as soon as they're established enough to take the light, that should be just right for the flower cabinet. The clones will be vertical & not take much space, so a few more will still fit. As soon as the clones go into flower, start more seeds. Put them under 12/12 younger, still in veg closet, & always have something in flower. Perpetual harvest.
-- You know, when you were used to about 600 outdoor plants & a huge grow room, going down to just a few plants & keeping them small hurts! Its hard to count out 9-10 seeds & not be tempted to throw in about 50 more. Its been years since the big grows, big plants. But I can't get used to the small stuff. I can do it, been doing it, but it just doesn't 'FEEL' serious. Dont get me wrong.... love little plants, but I feel like I'm only playing. I need this coming seasons outdoor grow, for more reasons than just a big harvest! Guess I need to feel a sense of accomplishment. God help me, but I have cabin fever bad!

Ranger. I was such a rough & tumble tom boy, my dad used to call me his little 'wonder woman'. But then every time I fell out of a tree & broke a few bones, my mom would tell me I'm NOT wonder woman! LOL! So I'm a little conflicted there! But then again, with all my bodily repairs, mom did call me the bionic woman for quite a while! ;)

Ok. Think I have an answer. The nuted burned one that showed male? Dried some leaf,& other than chlorophyll, I could taste blueberry. The others taste like bubblegum on the exhale. So he's a throwback to the blueberry side. Maybe even to an ancestor to the blueberry. He did have slightly thinner leaves than the others & definitely different nute requirements. Now to go get some chores done! ;)

You think that if you take that male(pollen), into a female-bubblegum, that you might have some blueberry bubblegum. You've got lots of experimenting to do. Especially if you find bubblegum male and or a female blueberry.
Already lots of record keeping, good thing you like writing!!

Ranger, these guys are (bubblegum X blueberry) X bubblegum. When trimming, I found that the others had a distinctive bubblegum after taste on the exhale. What I'm hoping to do is have a female with either a detectable bit of blueberry flavor, or one with somewhat narrower leaves to pollinate with this blueberry dominant male. What I'd like to accomplish is (probably after several generations) a blend of the two flavors. Since the bubblegum is definitely dominate, it will probably be hard to find a blueberry throwback to do this, & I will most likely have to get some blueberry seeds for breeding. The best I can probably hope for this go round is keeping some blueberry genetics apparent in the line. It would seem in this group of seeds, this male is the only blueberry throw back I have. Hope to get lucky when I grow the other half of the seeds. It would be cool as shit to find the blueberry flavor is there & comes out to show itself after the cure. ;)

Oh Ranger! You're such a boy! LOL!
I love blueberry, but most of the ones with the best blueberry flavor tend to be a little to heavy on the sativa for me. I love the bubblegum flavor, but its second to the blueberry. I'm hoping to come up with a blueberry bubblegum that has all the flavor of the blueberry but sweeter & only a hint of the pink bubblegum flavor. I also want to keep it indica dominate for size & speed. I like what the plants are now, just want to instill the blueberry flavor then inbreed for a while & stabilize the traits I like best. This is one of the ones where flavor tops the high. Even though the high is great, you smoke blueberry for the taste treat. :)

-- We should have discussed this blueberry thing a long time ago. I'm on the same quest! While D.J. Shorts blueberry is awesome, I found evidence of the existance of two seperate landraces that are naturally blueberry in flavor! When I started the search, I was under the impression that that 'flavors' were created by selective breeding. Well anyway, one was sativa, native to somewhere near Africa I believe. But here's the kicker. One is an indica landrace, from Brazil. I had been of the opinion indica ONLY came from around Afghanistan, the hash producers! So therefore, I am intrigued by this Brazilian native blueberry indica. I really want to get my hands on it. I forgot the name of the strain & the seed co. But I WILL find it again. Thats a nack I have, finding things. Book, road map, someplace I've never been to before hundreds of miles from home.... I just find things. This was the biggest suprise for you. I didn't say anything because I wanted you to read it for yourself..... Neville, as in Nevilles haze? .... THE SEED BANK? Well he's also the founder of MNS. Guess you could say MNS is a reconfiguration of THE SEED BANK. So its not only a forum, but a seed co with the best genetics around by the best breeders in recent history! When you get in, the first thing you have to read is MNS history. Its all there with many more suprises. The forum is more breeder oriented, but varied & interesting & a lot like here. Many warm people who will make you feel welcome. Cann.com will always be my 'home' forum, & MNS is my second home. The only way I'd ever leave here is if they kick me out. A friend on mns was raided recently. Not because of the forum, but his carbon filter was shot & he was pumping unfiltered exhaust outside & the odor got him. MNS may have stepped up security making it harder to get in. Check with Crystal & see how she got in, or maybe Wheeze. He made it too. You won't be disappointed. This is where you get your stabilized breeding stock....;)
-- Speaking of breeding stock... blueberry. Hummm. The seed co offering the natural landrace indica blueberry was blowing smoke up my ass. I was right in my original belief that the only plants native to Brazil are sativa. There is also no such thing as a natural, landrace blueberry, period. It is strictly a flavor manufactured through selective breeding. In my search, it appears the two best are D.J.Shorts blueberry, sativa dominant I believe. ..& blueberry yum yum, an indica dominate. I can't find a seed source for the blueberry yum yum though. If you find one let me know.

-- Well there must be something in the air! A little glitch here, technical difficulties there.... & today my ballast died in my veg closet! Yeah! So the new T5's go into the veg closet & ALL my plans have changed. :( Remember, at the beginning of this thread I'd planned to only flower 4 plants in the closet, but later started constructing a cabinet. Well now its back to the closet with TOO MANY PLANTS! This means no mainlining this time. Was almost there, pruned to shape, just not spread out & wired down yet. They now need to grow upward instead of getting spread out. Another thing.... there are no hairs yet, but the ones not having sexed yet have tiny little POINTY things, none of them look rounded like male flowers. Of course I'm looking at things to tiny to distinguish with the unaided eye, but with 2 stacked pr of reading glasses, sometimes a 100X 'scope, they are all pointed, like females. Don't know what to say about the 2 branches per plant I had let grow out (under the 'hub', the 4 branches) to cut for clones. Theres no place to put them. Too broke to replace the lights any time soon, so the next grow will probably be 4 in the tiny closet, unless I only get a 4 tube T5 & for veg & put the 6 tube bank in the cabinet where it belongs. Oh well. It is what it is. I'll have bud, but the plants will be smushed & ugly. :( Time to get my ass in gear & get those lights going. 12/12, here we come!

Cat I have been soo busy the last few days that I have just caught up on your grow this morning. The weather was 60 degrees sunday! YEs I go outside and inspected the garden- looks like we may have lost half of the fig trees- but everything else looks amazing. I started some semi permaculture here last year and it looks like I have a lot to learn lol!
I have become an expert at finding deals on lights….
First go to Amazon and check out the warehouse deals- they have several T5HO pretty much all the time- these are the lights people ordered and sent back and they work- I have bought several from the warehouse deals- they also get tents sometimes…oh yeah these lights are generally 40% or so off….keep checking like once a week because inventory changes….
Now once they do not sell on Amazon Warehouse they get shipped to stores in TN. KY and I think MI…the stores name is either Essex ( in TN) or Bargain Hunt ( TN and KY)…lights come in the door for half price and the price goes down each month- I got a 2 ft. 8 bulbs T5 for 40.00 all bulbs worked…
But my favorite way to find lights is craigslist- many times people will ship the lights to you from say….maybe Colorado- where people buy these large set ups and decide it easier to just buy it….so I spend a lot of time on states that are about 1 year into thier medical program or now even legalization….I have seen complete set up for a room dirt cheap because people need to get rid of it and want to make something back…often times that is why they will ship….
Hope this helps and your girls get too stretch out there! Stay warm the temps plummetted back into the teens today yuk yuk yuk….

I got my T5's on amazon. They are pretty cheap, but I can't even afford that for 3-4 months. I have property taxes coming up & a diability check doesn't go that far. If I go with a 4 bank instead of 6 for veg, I might be able to do it a little sooner. I just have to accept the fact this this grow won't be what it could have been. Its the fact their too crowded that's going to make the difference. I would really like to leave the 6 bank in the veg closet & get an 8 bank for the cabinet. Time will tell. Have you noticed everybody had equipment failures within days of each other? W E I R D . . . . . . . . . :wtf:

Have been too damned depressed to post much after the lights died. I have seasonally affective disorder (S.A.D) anyway & have been fighting it hard, apparently not winning. As crowded as they are, there's only upward room for 6" more growth. No room horizontally. I have no choice but to bend & wire in the mainline technique I already had started. This means pulling dead & dying leaves daily from the bottom because they certainly won't get light. It also mean prime conditions for disease. They are so pretty & healthy for now, but crowded plants aren't happy & neither am I. :(

Its twice as big as the others & looking a touch sativa. The others look 100% indica. A problem now is the over crowding issue. So tight in there, she can't possibly reach her full potential. I'll make every effort to reveg her (& a few more), & give her a chance to later show what she can really do. I definitely want her clones & some seed. I have to 'stack the glasses' later today & have another good look for sex. Like I said in a previous post, under magnification, all the tiny bumps are pointy like females. Hope a couple round out, two males to pull would greatly help with the over crowding. I guess since I'm stuck in the smaller space for a while, I'll barely have 'tide me overs' untill I can rectify the situation. Hoping for good luck on the reveg. Clones will give me a faster turnover, & that's what I need for now. Still scratching my head over that first female. She's honestly budding. :)

There are crystals that help with s.a.d - try some sunstone or amber- both of these will help you to asbosrb what UV you arec currently getting and will help pick up the flailing energy this time of year brings to so many people.
( Yes crystals help with growing too ;)

So much work to get done to get this closet right. Right now, the lights are hanging on an angle because the old breaker box is in the way. Only screwdriver that wasn't stolen is the crapy little one on my swiss army knife. Have a feeling I might get so frustrated trying to remove the thing, I might just head butt it out of the way! Its working ok for the plants though. I arranged them shortest to highest to match the angle the lights are on. But it sure looks sloppy hanging like that. Have to replace the reflective material. One end came down over my head while I was hanging the lights & I got so tangled up in it I had a little hissy fit & kinda shreaded it. I was wrapped up in that shit like a cocoon! Must have been a sight, trying to fight my way out of panda plastic while holding the light trying not to drop it! Gotta say, its been easier on the plants than on me. LOL! So tomorrow its hang new panda plastic. Maybe I'll have enough umph left to do some super cropping. :stoned:

Hey, I have my two fixtures hanging on an angle to light my plants that are arranged 'stadium style' with the tall in the back (against the side-lighting T5s) and the short plants in the first row and the middle plants...in the middle. The plants don't mind as long as they get the right amount of light and heat. My grow area is just sheets of cardboard painted white and hung around the plant area. Easy to put up and take down, just like a bedoin tent. I use these 1'x2' blocks of styrofoam I picked up for free when I need to have the grow off the floor like when they are seedlings. No cabinets to build. Just fasteners in the ceiling to tie things to.

Yeah, hanging lights at angles often work best for plants. How often are they all the same height? Actually, if the lights were level, I'd have to remove 2 plants. I just looks sloppy as hell & I can't adjust light height. But the plants are 2' up off the floor, the shelf they're sitting on is resting on stacks of inverted clay pots, so I have the option of lowering the plants. I'm just a snob when it comes to my craftmanship, & there's nothing of that, that I'm proud of. Its a 'slob job'. Looks like a little kids first attempt. But in the end, its what works best for the plants. The two that would have to be removed if the lights were level are the shortest. They're sitting on the box that covers the wheel well, which is the high end of the lights. If the lights were level, that end would be sitting on the wheel well box where the two plants are.
-- Wish I could do this with cardboard & panda plastic. Have everything I'd need to finish the cabinet that way, but Sam LOVES cardboard as a scratching post & LOVES to eat plants, & Tigger just copies what ever Sam does. That wouldn't last 2 hours for me. Everythings working fine from the plants point of view, its just me being a picky bitch, probably from my childhood. I grew up having to do everything better than the boys & they'd definitely make fun of this!
-- Don't have enough panda plastic to replace what I got wrapped up in (ha), so one end will have foil on the wall, frosty side out to diffuse the light better. Not the best, but better than dark brown paneling. When I get done doing the reflective stuff, I'll take 'scope & reading glasses in & see what's what. If I can pull out 2 males, I'll have a better excuse to level up the lights & make everything square. I was raised believing your craftmanship ain't worth shit if its out of square & just can't get away from that! Eh.. my weirdness! LOL! :)

CB would not agree, but you might, when I present the unofficial Hawai'i state motto.
"Half assed is more than good enough."
Now, to stay on topic.
Whip out your lightmeter and you will find that painting that paneling white reflects more light than even the shiny side of tinfoil.
How do I know that?
Tried it, tested it, measured it, used it.

Yeah, I know, it's a sickness.
Not easy being OCD.
Oop's, I mean CDO, (They need to be in the proper alphabetical order) :D
The only thing mo' betta than Titanium dioxide white paint, is Reflectix. ©
No gotta buy a whole roll.
Just stop by a building site.
Bring a smile and a bag of cookies, they'll cut it to size for ya.
Or, you could do it Hawaiian style.
Glue stick, printer paper, done!
Also more effective than foil.
Not even sure why, but that's what the meter says.

When I clone in a sog, mine stay even too. These guys are hybrids from seed. Not really much variation, but I do have two that are heads above the other four. Won't be able to clone though, untill I replace these lights, I'm only going to have one grow space for a while. Since the camper goes up to 100º or more in the summer, there won't be indoor grows from June till Oct. I might be able to set up a 30 gal tank painted white on the outside with a 4' shop light on top for seedlings as long as I can find a way to keep the cats out. But after that grow finishes, on to the big outdoors! (Can't wait, can't wait!) ....I Hate Winter! (I should put that in my signature) :)
